Here is the African Savanna
In the style of "The House That Jack Built", this book employs delightful repetitions and stunning illustrations to give children a picture of the animals who inhabit the African savanna. I read this book on a regular basis to children of all ages (and lots of adults), and they all enjoy it. In fact, I have worn out my initial copy, and have had to order another!

Amazing pictures and text!
This is a wonderful example of a circular story with excellent repeated lines and incredible pictures. It shows the connections of the various animals and plants of the Savanna.

A must for teachers and parents!

Intimate voices : selected work, 1965-1983

Excellent modern poet, intelligent, challenging + very funny
One of the outstanding British poets of the day Tom Leonard deserves a much higher reputation outside his native Scotland. Intimate voices features work in English and Glaswegian and shows him to be a master of both. It's often formally and technically innovative and Tom Leonard's hard-edged intelligence and wicked irony make it a rare delight. His craftsmanship is of the highest order. How can this book be out of print? If you see it, and you care about poetry at all, buy it. If I could only take ten books to a desert island this would probably be one of them.

Beyond Goodnight Moon
Why isn't this book better known? It's too bad that sweet, quiet, and enduring books like this one often get overlooked for flashier but less nourishing fare.

Margaret Wise Brown's poetry makes little immediate impact--and this is its secret strength. She wrote things meant to deepen over repeated readings rather than something that would impress at first but quickly become stale. Not much children's literature can stand up to being ready hundreds of times, but Brown's really does. The simple and artfully repetitive poems are best appreciated by someone, like me, who has read this book aloud many times to a child.

The greatest strength of the book, however, may be the gentle yet visually fascinating illustrations by Tom Leonard. who himself deserves more attention. His series of illustrations of animals and landscapes creates a world for Brown's poetry to inhabit. Leonard does a wonderful job of interpreting Brown's often spare literary style, evoking mood and sometimes filling in as storyteller.

Excellent
Concise and clear.. and Helpful... ( I think I found one error... but it was very minor)

It takes you through a worked example.. THE WAY ONE WANTS TO BE TAKEN THROUGH A WORKED EXAMPLE...

DO NOT BUY the "VFP Dummies" book.. it is ABSOLUTELY worthless in comparison...

"USING FOX PRO" (Antonovich) is much more complex... much more complete BUT you need to work up to it... not one for anyone to attack without a dose of AlkaSeltzer

This book VF Progamming Basics is v v good.. I congratulate the authors

Here Is the Coral Reef

Here is the Perfect Kids' Book Series!
Not only does my niece love this book, I'm quite fond of the series, too! The illustrations are detailed and painstakingly accurate, but the real treasure is Dunphy's language. The motif may seem simple, but it actively tunes in a child's curiosity, making her or him eager to turn the page and see what's next.

Excellent for teaching about ecological systems, fun!
I really enjoy Madeleine Dunphy's "Here is the Coral Reef," as I do all of her other "Here is..." books (rainforest, arctic winter, southwestern desert, and wetlands). "Here is the Coral Reef" provides parents a fun, colorful medium for teaching children about the coral reef ecosystem. The cumulative verse format is an elegant way to teach about the interconnections between all life. The illustrations are gloriously bright, with just enough action to keep the kids going, but nothing gory. The story grows incrementally with each page, tracing the unseen threads of biological systems, and culminating in a montage of its reef-dwelling characters. Kids seem to like the repetition...but any parent knows how much children enjoy repeating their favorite stories, songs or videos over and over and over! I would highly recommend this subtle yet effective book for parents and educators (*****).

Save the films!
It's a non-technical look (well, as non-technical as you can get on a topic as complicated as restoring films) at the world of film preservation and restoration, tracing its short history (films weren't always deemed important enough to save), focusing on some of the key personalities, key films and key organizations. Film buff's will love it.

There are some very interesting and surprising anecdotes concerning the restoration of some of our favorite films: the restoration of the "snails and oysters" scene in SPARTACUS, needed to be re-recorded since the original dialogue track was lost. Tony Curtis recorded his lines in Los Angeles, while Anthony Hopkins recorded the late Lawrence Olivier's lines in London! Stanley Kubrick re-directed the scene by fax! The actions that had to be taken to restore the soundtrack of LAWRENCE OF ARABIA are even more fascinating.

A perfect book for those fascinated with both archaeology and film!

you need to buy this book!!
Our Movie Heritage is one of the best books I've ever read and I can't say enough good things about it. If you have any intrest in movies, this book is a must. Our Movie Heritage contains many beautiful pictures and is very well written. It was so wonderful and informative, I couldn't put it down. The facts about preservation are so alarming and worrying, it makes you feel like you should give all your money to the cause. If the authors read this sort of thing, I just want to say thank you. You have changed my life. I'm in high school and after reading this book, I know what career I'm going into, film preservation. So thank you, and everyone needs to buy this book, its worth the price and much much more.
