This title For Love of a Horse, and the other eleven in the series are the best horse stories I have ever read - I can't believe they are currently out of print!?! This first book sets up the series, where Jinny and her family move to the Scottish highlands and Jinny rescues Shantih from the circus and brings her home to Finmory. Patricia Leitch writes in a way that lets you share in Jinny's happiness, pain, family life, and perils of growing up. The other books in the series in order are: A Devil to Ride -- The Summer Riders -- Night of the Red Horse -- Gallop to the Hills -- Horse in a Million -- The Magic Pony -- Ride Like the Wind -- Chestnut Gold -- Jump for the Moon -- Horse of Fire -- Running Wild. I am lucky enough to have read them all and own eight of them, and have read them over and over. Please reprint these(!!) so a new generation can enjoy Patricia Leitch's Jinny stories.

For as long as i can remember this has been one of my favorite books, I found my copy in the attic recently along with the summer riders. Is it just me or does Summer riders read as though there should have been another book in between?

FOr love of a horse is very touching and any other horse crazy kids will probably have an easy time relating to jinny, her dreams, and her obsticles. If you run across a copy of this book BUY IT at any cost. If you know of copies of OTHERS< PLEASE tell me?

No, not really, but this is the BEST book, and I have alot in common with the main charecter, Jinny Manders. I had also lived in the city (US, though) and moved to the country when my dream of owning an arabian show horse finally came true! Like Jinny, I love art, drawing and horses... it's what I do!!! This book is really an 11, on the scale from 1-10, but that wasn't an option. :o)

This story is a true, sometimes saddening account of how a young, poor girl attains her dream of riding a refined show pony at the huge English show, Wembley. Along the way, Gillian realizes her dreams and the ultimate realities that go along with those dreams.

After reading "The Fields of Praise" I sat with it in my hands knowing I held tangible proof that the impetus which draws us to horses is as real as the sun is bright. Like a kindred soul Ms. Leitch recognizes the sun which dances within horses. She bottles its substance and sprinkles it on every page, but not before shaking it all together with life's hardest lessons. More than a tale of a horse crazy girl, this is about the death of childhood dreams. I first read it 18 years ago and to me it is a classic; what "Black Beauty" is to the cruelty and kindness of humanity, "The Fields of Praise" is to truth and beauty.

The Summer Riders is one of my favorite books. People who like horses will love this book most! This book is about Jinny Manders, who is 12 years old. Jinny loves riding Shantih, her horse, and is pretty lonely because she is the only one who loves horses in her family, and wants a person to ride with. When summer comes, she sees that a girl named Sue Horton, (camping for the summer) comes with a horse named Pippen and also likes horses. Sue lends Jinny a saddle and they ride every morning until...
Jinny also finds out that two children, Bill and Marlene Thorpes, which her father had known them from long time ago in their previous place where they stayed, are coming. When they come, trouble also happens when Bill steals a watch from a store. The police comes and..... I can't tell you anymore so you should read this book to find out! Have fun and I say that this is a great book!

If you've read For Love of A Horse, then you'll love The Summer Riders!! This is a great sequel. When Jinny's cousins come to visit, she is convinced that her summer will be ruined. She has no idea of what will happen next!!

I think I first read this book at the age of about 10 - living in Glasgow I was always desperate to escape away from the smog and the people. Discovering Patricia Leitch kept me sane - I would disappear to the park, lie among the trees and lose myself totally in a world of horses, freedom and dreams. 'Dream of Fair Horses' is undoubtedly Leitch's most magical book and has reduced me to tears on several occasions - recently included (and I'm 25 years old) I strongly recommend this book and if Patricia herself is still around - I want her to know how valued she was in my growing years - and still is.

This is one of the best books I have ever read! Sally Lorimer age 10, wants a horse but doesn't have the room for one. The Lorimer family sees Kestrel but knows they could never afford it. Then Sally finds something that she feels is lucky. Then several days later an astonishing thing happens enough to let the family move to Kestrel Manor, a dream come true for Sally, now she can finally have her long-awaited horse. Then she meets Thalia and rides Tarquin, Thalia's horse has an embarrasing fall and vows to give up galloping all together. She soon finds out that buying a horse is much harder than she thought. Wiil sally ever find the right horse and find the courage to gallop again? Read it and find out!!!!!

This is a really good book. I love the books in the HORSESHOES series, written by Patricia Leitch. Too bad they're out of print. I'd buy them all.

It's really easy reading, it's about a girl and her friend who go on adventures with their horses.
