The Blue Roan is a book about a boy who finally gets to fulfill a lifelong dream, to have a horse of his own. Going against what his family thinks as the ideal pleasure horse, he chooses a western games horse that seems to understand his emotions and sympathizes with him.

As the summer wears on, he spends all of his time training his horse, Boots, out of sight of others. He avoids trail rides at any cost thinking that he needs to get Boots to loose some extra fat.

As it turns out he gets more than he bargained for when Boots is found pregnant and his little sisters life is put in danger when charged by Boots in the pasture and when she gets lost in her "Enchanted Forest".

This book shows how one person can grow up in one short amount of time and is a great book for America's youth.
