Great!!!
Never before has a textbook been so clear in explaining the grammar of a language I knew nothing about. Kudos to Mr. Landreneau, he has done an excellent job. The Cajun language should be preserved and this is the best effort I have seen.

Outstanding!
PR Visionaries is a remarkable piece of work! It provides you with the techniques and secrets of the best and leading members of the industry, from Ketchum, Porter Novelli, Brodeur Worldwide, and other leading players.

While strong on the strategic side, PR Visionaries is a bit weaker on the tactical side. I don't hold the editors responsible for this, however, as this is not a how-to manual, per se. For the tactical side, I found Guerrilla PR: Wired by Michael Levine to be a more than adequate resource.

PR Visionaries, as the title says, has the giants of the public relations industry tell you how to get noticed, build a brand, develop and protect a reputation, and how to be effective with key opinion-leaders, including the CEO. While it might be overly dramatic to say the book spills their secrets, PR Visionaries covers the various facets on how to successfully manage a powerful public relations campaign on all levels, one that clearly resonates with key stakeholders and publics.

The Rainbow Bridge: Rainbows in Art, Myth, and Science
Published in Hardcover by SPIE--The International Society for Optical Engineering (2001)
Authors: Raymond L., Jr Lee and Alistair B. Fraser
Amazon base price: $72.00
Average review score:

Do you like rainbows?
This book offers a comprehensive survey of rainbows, through an intriguing combination of mythology, art, science and history of science. Rainbows are relatively common elements of paintings and of modern-day advertising, but even great artists can make elementary mistakes in depicting rainbows. The lavish illustrations include reproductions of works of art, colour photographs of rainbows (some of which are stunning) and many diagrams. The authors provide lucid explanations of the science of rainbows without demanding significant mathematical ability on the part of the reader. If you enjoyed reading Carl Boyer's historical perspectives in his book "The Rainbow - from myth to mathematics", you will certainly enjoy this book. If you have more than a passing interest in rainbows, this is a "must buy" book!

Outstanding storytelling
Extremely colorful book about a wild character, Rosiebelle Lee. Based on Andrews' grandmother's life as a woman of color whooping it up in the segregated south. Highly recommended even if you don't normally read books from this genre.

Essential for the Pharmacology Part of the Boards!
~ ~
This pharmacology book is solely responsible for my honors grades in pharmacology and on the national boards.

All topics are covered comprehensively, with far greater clinical application than most pharmacology texts.

The chapter organization makes sense, and it is well indexed. This was one of the few med school books I kept and used for years after leaving clinical medicine to go into research.

I used the book for researching medications for family and myself - information on side effects and interactions was very good.

There are almost no illustrations, and few charts, so it's not easy reading, but it is definitely worthwhile.

-An MD- class of '84

VERY CLOSE TO BEING PERFECT
"Goldman & Gilman's The Pharmacological Basis of Therapeutics" is one brain toasting book. It reminds me of the "Principles of Pharmacology: Basic Concepts & Clinical Applications" (edited by Paul Munson). Of course, either of these two books can serve as a reference tool; and although the latter maintains a price advantage, 'Goldman & Gilman's' is more ubiquitous.
It is rich, versatile, and presents well laid-out voluminous chapters. Anyone who reads this book will appreciate how it tackled General Therapeutics, Biochemistry, and Molecular Biology.

great for the right audience
This book is great for the right audience, and for the right job. This book is not for the following people/jobs: 1. Medical students. If you are a medic, and you need a text for your pharmacology class, try the simpler and less detailed books like Katzung's. The level of detail in G&G may be overwhelming. 2. As an intern/resident, you really don't have the time for such details either. A pocket guide comes in handy for your day-to-day work. This book is excellent for research purposes, especially for presentation at a conference, for pharmacists and pharmacologists, and for others directly involved in drug dispensing or manufacture.

Killer on the Loose, The True Story of Serial Killer Raymond Lee Stewart
Published in Paperback by Paperboy Press (29 January, 1999)

Remembering January 28, 1981
First let me start by telling you that Kevin Kaiser is my brother. When we, his family found out that this book was being released, we were in a state of confusion. No one had tried to contact any of us to find out how all of this affected our family. So, needless to say, we are not big fans of Greg Kelly. Now, for my review: unfortunately, it brought back all the memories again, but for the most part it was true. Kevin was not found in a crouching position as if he had been begging for his life, he was leaning against the wall, yes he had a gunshot to his hand, a reflex action, not an action of begging. And yes he was shot 5 times, the last four after he was already dead, and yes the last one was to the face. I was at the execution of Ray Lee Stewart, and in my opinion, as well as alot of other people the S.O.B. got of to easily. We as family members, were allowed to witness this on a 19" screen. This so far as been the best television show I do believe I have ever seen. Greg Kelly did a good job on this book, but I do have a piece of advice for him. Please, before you write about another families tragedies, contact them, or at least make every effort to let them know, that you are about to open up very hurtful memories.

Very Hard to Put this Book Down!!
I am a member of the Law Enforcement community where Ray Lee Stewart went on his killing spree, however I was the same age the Author was at the time of it. I have heard an awful lot about Ray Stewart and know alot of the people the author wrote about. It was a very interesting account. Most true crime books do not have the personal touch to them like Greg Kelly's. Greg lived this book. The author was also very objective in his writing. The only slam on the book I have is that I wish it was longer and told more of the story. I would have like to have learned more about the things Ray did. I would liked to have read more detailed accounts about the way Ray behaved in court and the way he behaved in jail. A definite must buy book for anyone one in the Rockford,IL area!!

A must for true crime fans!
I saw the book featured on Court TV and decided to buy it. It is the best true crime book I have read in several years and that is all I read. Where did this guy come from? Where has he been while the other true crime authors are crannking out bad books with gory pictures? This might have been a once a lifetime thing for Kelly, but I hope not. When is he writing his next book? Because I will be the first in line to buy. Very touching, very human and very complete.

Unique, effective approach showing how anyone can get rich.
Most get rich books for popular consumption are based on gimmicks and raise false hopes among the gullible. Lee & McKenzie are different. They show how anyone, even low-income people, can gradually build a fortune without luck and without expert advice. They show how getting rich in America is a choice that anyone can make. It takes discipline, resolve, perserverance, and patience. It doesn't require any financial expertise or knowledge of the stock market. Every young person should read this book and follow its simple rules. It gives the lie to the widespread belief that you have to be rich to make money. It will build confidence in the free-market system.

Buy this book!
This book is my "pick of the week". I highly recommend this book to anyone who is trying to save for retirement. The book clearly maps out a course to follow to retirement wealth. I also liked that it wasn't all just numbers, the authors discussed the need for old fashioned values like honesty, determination and a good marriage. The examples that even people at the bottom rungs of the economic ladder can retire wealthy really hit home. I work with temp workers at my job from time to time and let me tell you, being poor is definitely a state of mind. None of them have a plan, all of them blame circumstance and all think winning the lottery is their only hope. I think this book is a must read whether you are scraping by as a temp or if you are making a bundle. Buy it, read it, live it! See you at the top!

The most well rounded financial advice book I've read so far
As the name states, this book explains how it is possible to build wealth AND achieve a satisfying life by following a few simple rules. There are no off-the-wall advice or get-rich-quick schemes offered here, unlike the material from some other "financial gurus". All of the principles presented in this book are logically sound and time-proven, but I hesitate to say "common-sense" because so few people actually practice them in reality.

For example, I think we've all heard about the power of compounding--and how it can turn a modest savings into a significant nest egg over time. However, very few people take this to heart and apply it to their daily money management decisions, because they feel it requires too much work or they feel helpless in controlling their expenses. What the authors do is demonstrate, by using specific examples and crunching the numbers, that even minor expenditures today can have significant economic impact down the road. They show that by making certain choices early on in one's life, nearly ANYONE can build a fortune in America. It truly doesn't require a genius or lots of luck to become rich today. Moreover, the authors point out that one doesn't have to sacrifice all of life's pleasures or live like a pauper in order to achieve financial security. All it takes is a little prudent savings and investing. If you believe in the opportunity to achieve wealth in this country, but have trouble getting motivated and taking action, this book is for you.

The chapter on investing is excellent. The authors explain how trying to beat the market is futile, and "safe" returns can be riddled with risk over the long haul (due to inflation). If you believe that you are just as capable of managing your investments as paid experts, you'll like this book.

Most people aren't aware of the return on education; I know I went to college just because it was the thing to do (and my parents wouldn't have it any other way ;) This book describes how increasing one's education level can substantially affect (negatively and positively) one's earnings. It's very interesting reading.

What this book also emphasizes, that most other financial advice books neglect to mention, is that living a good lifestyle is not only satisfying but also FINANCIALLY rewarding. Practicing good ethics enables a person to feel good about him/herself (leading to a more productive life), and making healthy lifestyle choices extends your life (thereby allowing the power of compounding to work longer). If you want validation that doing the right thing and living responsibly is rewarding emotionally AND financially, then read this book.

The only point that I have a minor quibble with is: getting married is good for wealth building. I understand what the authors are trying to say, which (I think) is: being in a committed relationship and having a contributing partner can accelerate the wealth building process. However, I don't believe that the actual marriage contract is necessary for achieving wealth. While marriage may help some couples stay together, it can also provide a false sense of security for others (causing them to stop working as hard on maintaining the relationship). Some people choose not to get married because they have no desire to produce offspring, others do it to avoid the "marriage tax penalty". I think unmarried, committed couples are just as likely to build significant wealth (and live fulfilling lives) as married couples. Anyway, I'm being technical here, and what's important is that the authors do get their point across.

I really liked this book, and I am practicing all the principles described in it. I find my peace of mind higher than ever, knowing that I'm well on the path towards a secure future.

die another day...
Raymond Benson has done a superb job with his own Bond series, combining the modern film Bond with the classic Fleming Bond.(its a shame that it appears that he won't be doing anymore)His novels are all fast paced entertaining reads. His novelisations of the Brosnan series have almost always improved on the movies-adding alot of character moments as well as a great deal of depth and dimension to the villians. This one, however, reads like a great action movie. The pace is relentless as it is basically one giant action scene after another following a shocking beginning where we see 007 as we have never seen him before. Now as a movie this will be alot of fun to see but as a novel it seems to be over much too quickly(I finished it in a day). The character moments Benson usually puts in his own series were few and far between because of the incredible pace of the story . While this works on film you end up missing these moments on the printed page and waiting for a little break in the action. That being said, this is filled with one incredible scene after another. In fact, you end up smiling and cheering just as you would in the movies. The action sequences are all original and exciting and 007 is better than ever...coming through the most harrowing experience he has ever been through on film.If this plays out as written it will easily be Brosnans best Bond film to date.Benson captures the feelings of a "Bond movie on paper" perfectly. This may not have the depth of his original stories but it has all the fun of the movies.
If this is his last Bond novel he has gone out in style.

Much Better than the Film
Raymond Benson has been a Bond fan for years. That being said, Benson took the film's script and elevated the material to a point where it at least has plausibility and some style perhaps out of respect to the memory of Ian Fleming. Also, the focus in the novel is on James Bond, not computer generated stunts (that's rather hard to do in a book any way you look at it). This is a great improvement over the various plot elements and this time out they work. I was pleased that we got something good out of this last Bond movie.

Living to Die Another Day!!!
Raymond Benson returns with quite possibly some of his best writing ever! After the okay-good The Man With The Red Tattoo, he returns to write Die Another Day in a superb style of description, action and nonstop 007 adventure! Rumors are flying that he may be giving up his role as the 007 author, if it is true he leaves with a bang.

Die Another day begins with Bond in Korea to disrupt the evil Colonel Moon and his henchman Zao. They are purchasing diamonds and have a great deal of deadly machinery in his demilitarized zone. Bond infiltrates the zone to result in a explosion of diamond shrapnel scarring Zao's face and a deadly chase with Colonel Moon of hovercrafts over a minefield. Bond is captured by General Moon, (the colonel's father and is held responsible for his death. A year passes by with Bond in a tortured state being traded for freedom with Zao. M meets Bond and tells him of her dissapointment in him. Bond then searches for Zao down in Cuba and meets NSA agent Jinx. Bond discovers that Zao has been under gene therapy to alter his face in a clinic on a nearby island. Bond traces the island to a one Gustav Graves, an eccentric millionaire that owns diamonds and has a local ice palace in Iceland. Bond challenges Graves to fencing in the Blades Club, where Bond wins and meets the ultra-cool icy princess Miranda Frost, Graves personal assistant. Bond is equipped by Q and sent out to Iceland by M. While in Iceland Bond meets up with Jinx and discovers the Gustav Graves has created the ultrapowerful satellite Icarus, which canharness the Sun's power. He later confronts Graves where he makes a startling discovery that Miranda Frost(while earlier claiming to be a British agent) is now against Bond. A magnificent chase enthralls with Zao, Graves and Frost running Bond down. Jinx and Bond discover that Colonel Moon is in fact Gustav Graves the same person. Jinx and Bond find out that Graves is going to destroy his demilitarized zone with the Icarus in order for the takeover of all nearby countries to make Korea an unstoppable power. Bond kills Zao in the ice palace and rescues the stranded Jinx, where they aboard Graves plane to stop the crazy Korean. Jinx and Miranda Frost break out into a exciting thrilling fencing fight with Frost succumbing to the sword of Jinx. Bond and Graves battle on the now crashing plane, where Graves is killed by being pulled into the planes wing. Bond and Jinx escape via helicoptor aboard the plane. Meanwhile we are allowed to see thanks to the 3-D machine the ultimate fantasy of Moneypenny to love James Bond. Bond and Jinx safely land in a temple where the story ends.

Raymond Benson has truly written a masterpiece here. All bond fans will love the exciting tale of James Bond 007!

Nice! What a nice share of experience... interviewing CAQDAS users was the best way to warn the reader from computing pitfalls. Unfortunately, this book differs widely from the previous issue (published in 1991 and collecting useful papers)... In one word, this book must be read by CAQDAS users.

Does Anyone Still Remember When Sex Was Fun?: Positive Sexuality in the Age of AIDS

A refreshing counterpoint to AIDS-teria
A great collection of essays from people in the front lines of emerging sexuality, this book is a good read for anyone who wants a more balanced view of contemporary sexuality. The essays discuss the science of AIDS and other STD transmission, strategies for coping/prevention, truly risky behaviors versus "perceived" risky behaviors, and sexuality from the perspectives of women, men, gays, straights, and youth.

There are parts of the book where the services of a better copyeditor might have been valuable, but that's not enough to be a real problem - just stay with it when it meanders a bit, you'll get the point eventually.

Though the pace of science makes some of the material (I read the 1996 edition) a tad dated, it is still a good counterweight to the unreasonable fearmongering of sexual repressionists and the naive media. Their conscious or unconscious "disinformation" concerning the very real, but extremely limited, AIDS phenomenon has negatively influenced the thinking too many otherwise sensible folks.
