Debby Mayne's "Sunshine Harvest"
Debby Mayne's "Sunshine Harvest" stands out in this anthology with a tale of deeply inspirational romance. She has painted a colorful backdrop with the citrus groves, migrant workers and tropical Florida locale. Her heroine takes us through a gamut of emotions after her father dies and she must summon the strength to hold his dream together while dealing with his loss. But what I liked best about this story was the hero! Daniel is a sensitive, intelligent, spiritual leading man, and I did some swooning along with Anna as I got to know him. Debby Mayne writes with a very visual stroke; "Sunshine Harvest" would make a stunning and romantic movie!

Harvest Home Anthology -- ONLY BELIEVE
In the fourth novella of the Harvest Home Anthology, talented author, Janet Spaeth, weaves an emotional romance filled with love for God, family, and the Dakota Territory of 1879. ONLY BELIEVE shows the hard work and faith of two people, Catherine and Micah, who fall in love in the midst of trials they both face as they harvest the wheat crop. Woven into the story are touches of the humorous talent of this endearing author. Janet uses the embroidery of the bible verse, 'Be not afraid, only believe,'(Mark 5:36), as a memorable setting, along with that of the beautiful prairie of the Dakota Territory, for this wonderful, heartwarming harvest story of true love. I could not put down the Harvest Home Anthology from Barbour until I finished Janet Spaeth's novella, ONLY BELIEVE. I know you will enjoy Catherine and Micah's love story as much as I did. And that like me, you will remember to -- be not afraid and only believe -- for miracles in your life.

Harvest of Love
A very well-written decent story for everyone of any age. It was easy to read and to relax with. I would recommend this story to everyone. It takes you back to days of the American Settlers when times were simple. It is refreshing to read and to escape the confusing, busy, and complicated days of today.

One Particular Harbor
This book is great - positiveley the best book I've ever read. It follows the story of Janet, a woman with MS. Instantly, you feel as if Janet is an old friend. A good book for when you're feeling frustrated with the world and wishing you could do like Janet did...fly away to Alaska. A true story of adventure!

A positive, funny, honest and very in depth look at MS...
I have read all sorts of books on MS--- Medical journals, personal accounts, alternative healing.. This wonderful book brought me to new heights in my understanding of the disease.. I wanted to jump on a plane to Alaska and pick up where Janet left off! I loved her bravery, her honesty and especially her sincerity. I, too, am a vagabond and traveler with MS... One of my favorite books ever on the subject!

Finally, an upbeat book regarding MS!
A gutsy, funny, sensitive young woman takes readers to Alaska where we learn to love the great state and Janet. This book is a joy for everyone and will remain with you long after the final word is read. See you at the Salty Dawg! Thanks Janet.

A wonderful resource for library media specialists!
This is my first year as a library media specialist. I have used this book with my elementary students very successfully. The games are fun and the students get so excited when they hear we will be playing a game! I have purchased many library skills books and this is one of the best.

Recommended for elementary classrooms and homeschooling.
In Learning About Books & Libraries: A Gold Mine Of Games, Carol Lee and Janet Langford collaborate to present forty seven original, effective, and fun educational games for children in grades K-6. Each game contains a suggested grade level, a description of the instructional purpose or goal, easy preparation instructions with estimated preparation time, simple and clearly written instructions for playing each game, patterns, and further recommended reading. These easy-to-follow learning games are divided into three groups: fiction books likely to be found in most school library collections; games pertaining to nonfiction books, recognition of the Dewey Decimal numbers, map skills, and research resources; games used with thematic units or to stimulate further understanding of particular books listed. Learning About Books & Libraries is enhanced with an index listings each game by grade level and content areas of the curriculum. Designed for classroom use, Learning About Books & Libraries is also highly recommended for homeschool use.

Very Helpful
This is a great book for those who are beginning to experiment with literature circles in the classroom. From start to finish this book gives ideal situations, practices and real examples. It also recognizes that literature circles often have many problems and frustrations and walks the reader through scenarios step by step. There are mini strategy lessons as well as reproducibles that are very helpful. I love this book and have already recommended it to many of my colleagues.

Very helpful, says my daughters teacher
First, I am one the authors' sisters. That said, these are the comments made by my daughter's teacher after getting this book as a gift.

"Where did you find out about this book? It is great, I love it."

I got to read bits of it as it was being written, and have since read the whole thing. It is helpful in assisting students to read to comprehend books, rather than just reading to write a book report or fill in the blank type tests.

As the book title states, this is an excellent resource .
This book has innovative recipies for the diabetic and her friends, that are clever and tasty enough to be, actually, something you would want to prepare and eat. Ms. Meirelles is a Diabetic Educator. She gives witty and very entertaining talks to diabetic support groups in and around Oregon. Her husband is her assistant. She educates the the non-diabetic away from many of the fears and false impressions about being diabetic. She shows us how to let the diabetic decide for herself what and when she can eat, because she is capable of doing so. We diabetics get weary of others getting on our case! Her recipie books are the result taste testing of the recipies by herself and her husband . She claims she publishes only the ones he likes!

A very interesting book on a Civil War Surgeon
To all,

This book is diary with much detailed about the life of a 42 year old (pretty old back then) Surgeon (1st Lt...thus a acting assistant surgeon) in the Army of the Potomac in 1862 to 1863. A very interesting story is when his is captured by CSA forces in battle. A CSA soldiers also comes up to him (he is looking for wounded) and tried to shoot him at point blank range. A misfire saved his life. Later, R.E. Lee returns his personal item and lets him return to Yankee lines.

A bit slow at times for for history buffs or reenactors (I play a Union Surgeon in the ACWA.org), then a grand book indeed.

Sincerely,

I remain your humble servant, Major Arthur Henrick.

There Really Was a Hollywood

There really was a Hollywood and Ms. Leigh takes you there!
Recently, I had the opportunity to meet Ms. Leigh, albeit briefly, at a reception and screening of her film, "Touch of Evil". It truly was like meeting Hollywood royalty. All through the course of the evening, people were commenting, "She's so down to earth. She's so charming. She's so real. What a class act". And after reading this book, I can certainly understand why.

Ms. Leigh's discovery by actress Norma Shearer is the stuff of Hollywood legend. She writes with great enthusiasm, disbelief, self-depreciation, and wonder about her years of guidance and nurturing at MGM, where they taught actors important skills not only to better themselves, but also their performance. She is your personal tour guide to all of her film sets and locations, she introduces you to her celebrity friends, gets you involved in political causes and charitable organizations, and shares the high's and low's of both her professional and personal life. She shows you that in spite of being Janet Leigh, she's still a real person. Yet, she handles all situations--good and bad--with grace and dignity.

Even though this book is out of print, I thank Amazon for finding it for me to add to my personal library. It brought a "Touch of Hollywood" (the REAL Hollywood) into my home.
