Childhood Memories.
THE GIANT JAM SANDWICH was one of my favorite illustrated stories when I was a kid. I remember in first and second grade listening to this story at story time in the library. This book was one of those rare books that every kid in the class sat still for because we loved it so much and didn't want to miss one word or not be able to see one of the pictures. The story is rather simple; basically a town is over run by wasps and in order to get rid of the pesky insects, they build a giant jam sandwich. However, the original rhyming pattern adds a touch of flare to the story. Also, the illustrations are a pure joy to look at. This is a great book that most children will enjoy. But be forewarned, it's a book kids might want you to read over and over and over again.

One Of My Favorites
My mother recently saw this book at a yard sale and remembered it was one of my favorites. Now at 29 I read it to my stepson , who is 2 1/2, everytime he visits, and he loves it as well. Each time I get to "And they had a feast for a hundred weeks" it fills me with a sense of well being. The illustrations are wonderful - each page is like a story of its own, with new things for children to discover each time the book is opened.

A Childhood Favorite
This book was one of my absolute favorites as a child. The rhyming verse makes it very fun to read aloud. The story is just fascinating to young children. I'll have to buy a new copy to replace the tattered one from my childhood! I was very relieved to find that it was still in print, it really is a wonderful children's book.

And so the tale is brought to a close. . .
In "Sauron Defeated", Christopher Tolkien brings to a close "The History of The Lord of the Rings", a subset within his "The History of Middle Earth". Like the previous three volumes in this series, Christopher traces the development of his father's thought as the final chapters of The Lord of the Rings are written. Of special interest are the early conceptions of "The Scouring of the Shire" and the two versions of the never-published "Epilogue". The Epilogue was, to me, particularly touching, as it involved Sam, now a middle-aged hobbit with a houseful of kids, reading to his family and keeping the Story alive.

HOWEVER, the above material, while unable to fit into the previous volume (The War of the Ring), was not enough to warrent a volume all by itself. So Christopher has also included "The Notion Club Papers" -- a space/time/dream travel story, written at the same time as The Lord of the Rings was being developed. The story itself involves Numenor -- Tolkien's telling of the Atlantis saga. Of particular interest to CS Lewis fans, "The Notion Club Papers" purports to be a discussion of (among other things) Lewis' own space travel fiction, penned in the late 30's and early 40's. It's a shame that this story was never brought to completion -- I'm finding the ideas it expresses to be quite interesting.

Again, 5 stars, both for the Master, and for the tireless work of Christopher.

A great job by Christopher Tolkien!
In the ninth volume of The History of Middle Earth and the last dealing with LOTR Christopher Tolkien gives us not only the original ending to Tolien's epic trilogy, but also an essay called the Notion Club Papers, an edition of the Drowning Of Anadune, and information on Adunaic which was one of Tolkien's invented languages. I liked this book very much even though the Notion Club was hard to read at times. Thankfully, this is the last edition dealing with LOTR and Tolkien soon turns again to his father's greatest work, The Silmarillion. I recommend this book to any Tolkien fan.

Another Gem from Tolkien
The title of this book should say it all. Certainly a book designed for die-hard Tolkien fans, 'Sauron Defeated' hardly represents interesting reading for people unfamiliar with the Lord of the Rings series. That said, the thick volume is still essential for anyone who has read the previous three chapters of the History. Although some parts of 'Sauron Defeated' are better off left out in its next edition, it presents enough interesting information in its 482 pages to make it a worthwhile (not to mention impressive) presence in your Tolkien library.

Bored of the Rings...Yes I am!
this book is extremely funny. This was obviously written to make money off stoned freshmen, but instead of being written by stoned freshmen or ignorant pigs, the people who wrote it were intelligent. The name changes and chapter names are funny, and the real life refererences are predictable, but in good humour. I don't want to give it away much...so READ IT!

Bored of the Rings
I bought this book when it first came out. Was reading on a long flight. I had to put it away because my out-loud laughter was interferring with other passengers! Once read, you'll never see the original in the same way! Purists beware: this hilarious parody may make you mad if you're humor-impaired.

All-time funniest
"...AAAEEEEE! A Ballhog!" This is a true cult classic. You won't find a used book store clerk that doesn't know off the top of the head whether or not it's in stock. I dare any J.R.R. fan read an entire paragraph without busting out in laughter. The poetry is particularly thought provoking, lovely and inspirational.

Thisis a great read!!!
I was fortunate to have read "In the Lord's Library" quite some time ago and thoroughly enjoyed the entire book. I feel that MARSDEN did a superb job in creating this storyline and was able to put into writing a very believable tale. It is evident that MARSDEN spent a portion of his career as a police officer and he has been able to bring to life some of the situations which he faced while in service.
If you are looking for a great story to read during these rainy winter months, look no further than "In the Lord's Library"

Enjoy!

Wonderful!
We were so caught up in this book, that we read it in a day!
We read it aloud. Reading, as if it were a script.
Each character was brought to life, as P.J. Marsden described them in detail.
"In the Lord's Library" was the book we chose to end the year with.
It was the perfect selection, for best friends to read together.

I look forward to reading more books, by P.J. Marsden.

What an awesome book!
You can certainly tell the author of this book is a veteran police officer. The places he takes you, and skillfully I might add, could only be achieved by a cop who has been there, done that, and yes, even took the pictures for his file. While there was certainly a lot in this book for me, I can easily say there lays within these pages a little something for everyone, as well as the lesson that we can all be as strong as the main character Judith. We just have to allow our free will and inner strength to take us there. The author skillfully weaves this believable story by leaving you hanging at the end of each chapter, challenging the reader to abandon the pages but I would have none of that. I kept right on reading!

Play your way through Middle-Earth
This game is so awesome! It was the first RPG i ever played and i loved it. This game is so cool. It provides hours of entertainment and fun. You just choose your character and Play! It is so fun. (I've said that about a million times b/c it is.) So if you are bored this summer get this book!

The Lord of the Rings rocks!
I do not have this book but a friend of mine does and it rocks! We play this for hours non-stop. It provides hours of entertainment and fun. So if you are planning on buying this book but don't know its worth it, well take it from me it is way worth it. So dont exagerate pick up your copy today!

At last, a TRUE Roleplaying System for the LOTR...
Ok, let make this simple: this book is amazing!!. I was very concerned at first with the system: it use only d6 dices?, how the elves will be managed? and the magic?. All these questions worried me, but let me tell you: the system is great, flexible (like or more the d20 system) and simple. The races and character classes (order) are very well made and presented. Of course, the elves are superior, but thats does not mean that the other characters will not be relevant. The ROLE playing is what is relevant. And this book present wonderful opportunities for make many good roleplaying sesions.

The magic system (another big issue) is great also: is not to powerful, but powerful enough. It let you combine your magic, you do not need to "memorize" the spells, etc. But one thing is important to remember: forget about big balls of fire or dozens of magic rays creating havoc between your enemies... Think more of how Gandalf use the magic and you will have a more precise idea of how the system works... And you want to be a member of the Wizard Order? This book tell you how to achieve this.

One last word: the biggest challenge will be for the Narrator (or storyteller, DM, or whatever you call it). To create a wonderful story in the Middle Earth that capture the Tolkien mood without copy the books will not be easy, but this book help you a lot in the process... The rest is for your imagination.

Now this is my favorite book!
As I said previously for St. John,'s Lady of Valour, I am in awe of this author. But mostly i'm peeved for not discovering her sooner, but at least I did. :) This is a more tempestutous book that Lady, but just as fine, just as poignant. Lord of Vengeance is a book you do not want to miss, whether you read romance or not! I am sure this book will change your mind or at least give you hours of reading pleasure. Gunnar and Raina were absolutely delightful and the way he grew and changed in the face of true love after losing so much in his life, was a joy to read and live. I wish the book were longer!! Fantastic job. I cannot wait to meet Ms. St. John in person! Thank you.

An AWESOME Medieval!
How did I miss this book when it came out last summer! What an awesome story! I blazed thru LORD OF VENGEANCE in a couple of days and was very sorry when I came to the end. Tina St. John has written an emotional, fast paced story packed with action and romance and so many wonderful characters. I felt like I was right there with Gunnar and Raina the whole time, and I just adored Alaric (Gunnar's squire) and even crotchety old Agnes!

If you like the medievals of Lynn Kurland or Elizabeth Elliot, you're going to love Tina St. John! And I'm so glad to see she has a new one out next month! Keep them coming, Ms. St. John!

A Medieval romance from the Heart!!
I simply cannot say enough about how wonderful this book made me fee. It's a beautiful medieval tale in every sense in that the hero, Gunnar Rutledge, so brimming with hatred and vengeance and angst, especially in the beginning of LOV, changes his destructive path because of the gentle, sweet as well as fiery love of his heroine, Raina, his enemy's daughter. The writing is excellent and so is the story. I don't want to give away the plot, but if you're looking for a fun, exciting historical romance told with a fresh voice, LORD OF VENGEANCE will sweep you right off your feet, your toes, your whatever! Ten stars for Tina St. John! I can't wait for her next book!

An outstanding work of theology
I have read this book as a part of my theological study on the subject of Christology. I have found it to be of great help in digging into the eternal truths about Jesus. He is continually showing the traditional view of the church contrasted with the contemporary views in modern theology. I have personaly found that a great help. The first part of the book deals with Christ in eternity past, an area that has been neglected a lot, according to his oppinion. It shows very clearly that the Old Testament prooves the deity of Christ, in his Theophanys and Prophesy. Like Isa 9,6 Almigthy God, eternal Father. To me that was something I hadn't thought about.

Simple Chrsitology
A great basic book on the issue of the Nature and Person and Character of the God-Man. Very good documentation, and just an interesting read.

Full of Grace and Truth
This author has been called the greatest theologian of our generation by his peers. His book brilliantly delineates orthodox doctrine about the unique person and saving work of the Lord Jesus Christ. If you are a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, and you do not have a pastor who faithfully studies and teaches you the Word (2 Timothy 2:15), you should read this book. In so doing you can begin to fulfill the mandate to "Grow in grace and knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ" (2 Peter 3:18). At the same time you will see how far contemporary Christianity has strayed from the Truth, emphasizing social activism instead of spiritual growth. The Lord has said "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge" (Hosea 4:6). As was the case with Judea in A.D. 70, this nation is about to be destroyed because our generation of Christians has failed to fulfill its responsibility to the Lord.

The true story of Hugh Glass...and then some
I had never even heard of Hugh Glass when i picked this book up. Wow, what a life he led! If even half of it is true its an amazing tale in the spirit of Jeremiah Johnson.

What this man goes through is unbelievable and makes for a heck of a page turner. Great historical/fiction mountain man story.

The Ultimate Western
This is one particularly unique western set in a time when the Midwest was untamed; it's probably like no other western ever written. I have read maybe two-hundred westerns, but I was naive until I read Lord Grizzley.

A Great Book
Actually, this book should be about 4 1/2 stars, but I'll round up. It is a captivating book that is part history and part (probably the biggest part) fiction centered around an historic figure. I imagine old Hugh did go through very similar experiences during his time in hell. This book gives a great depiction of what life probably was like for a mountain man in the early 1800s. It reminds me of the sheer luxuries we all take for granted in every day life compared to those who lived before us. Hugh Glass is portrayed as a determined man who was about as tough as any creature on the planet could be. I imagine he was. For a glimpse of how the West was before white men poured in, what life consisted of then, and the inspirational feats of a colorful mountain man, read this book. It's hard to put down.
