A History of the Laughton family
"Pavilions by the Sea" was written by Charles (Laughton) middle brother, Tom. Tom gives us a wonderful insight on their early years of growing up in the seaside hotel, the Pavilion, as well as accounts of Charles' private life.

My favourite story that Tom shared was when they were younger. One of their greatest treats was when their father, Robert, would take either Charles or Tom (never both at the same time.) grocery shopping early in the morning to ensure he had the first choice from what the tradesmen had to offer. The meats had to be the finest quality and cuts, the vegetables had to be the freshest, and the fish, had to be still alive. Tom went into great detail as to how Robert chose each item and it let us, the reader, understand how meticulous their father was.

I highly recommend this book because it explains when Charles, from his brother's point of view, was the way he was.
