The humor took me by surprise and made me burst out laughing (in public) wherever I was! Really funny stuff! Sometimes a little cynical, but I like it that way!

Very funny. While in the hospital recovering from two surgical procedures I was given this book. Although some of the entries have been on the Internet it was a very good read.

My son loves this book and seemed unimpressed with the original Mother Goose when they were read to him weeks after getting this book. This book is much more entertaining for any age at any time. Warm, positive, and funny.

After our son was born we started really reading the old nursery rhymes we'd grown up with and were disappointed by the often harsh and callous messages. The New Adventures of Mother Goose is such a welcome relief! It full of the characters we recognize but they're so much happier than we remember them. For instance, the three KIND mice take out their cheese and cut her (the farmer's wife) a slice. How much better than getting their tails chopped off! Most importantly, it's our son's favorite book and he's starting to complete the rhymes himself. We feel good about having him repeat happy rhymes.

What a breath of fresh air. Finally, I can read a nursery rhyme to my babies without fear of giving them nightmares. Bruce Lansky has thoughtfully considered the impressionable minds of our children when reworking the original Mother Goose rhymes. I don't mind if my children forever remember these sweet and funny rhymes.

If you buy this book your life will be a lot less hectic. The tips are great. They're easy to read, intersting, and easy to use. I found this book very helpful.

This book inspired a love of reading in my second grader. She ranked reading right up there with going to the dentist (no offense), until she got her hands on this book. The short, captivating stories seemed to fascinate her, and she begged me to order the rest of the series. I hope Bruce Lansky keeps up the good work!

This book was SO COOL!!! My favorite story was either The Fairy Godmother's Assistant, For Love of Sunny, The Royal Joust, orLian and the Unicorn. But ALL of the stories were awsome; I loved them all! Keep writing/editing, Bruce Lansky!!!

GIRL POWER! THIS IS A GREAT BOOK FOR ALL GIRLS! I AM A SECOND GRADER AND I THINK THIS IS THE COOLEST BOOK. ALL THE GIRL CHARACTERS ARE SMART, FUNNY , COURAGEOUS AND KNOW HOW TO THINK AND SOLVE PROBLEMS! I HAVE FOUND A LOT OF HEROES IN THIS BOOK!

"The Best Baby Name Book...In The Whole Wide World" by Bruce and Vicki Lansky is not only a well researched and helpful resource for choosing a name for your baby, but it is an entertaining read as well. I have had this book for well over two decades now and I am holding on to it to pass along to my own kids when needed (whenever that may be..I am still waiting!) My copy was published in 1979 and had ONLY 10,000 names to choose from but I see now that this updated version now has over 13,000!

The List of names, seperated by boy and girl and listed alphabetically contains the main entry name, variations of the name, the meaning, source(Greek, Hebrew etc) and several different ways to spell it. For example my name,,,Laura (Latin) "Crown of laurel leaves" fem for Lawrence...Lara, Laure,
Laurie Lori, Loretta, etc. You can spend hours pouring through this section.

What makes this book a keeper and especially unique is all the great tidbits of information you'll get before you even get to that list. Some of it is laugh out loud funny as well. A great intro by Erma Bombeck, a list of the most popular names in the world, tips on "How To Name Your Baby", a Legal guide, Celebrities' real names(Did you know that Boris Karloff is really William Pratt?)and "fascinating Facts" are some of the informative sections included. In fascinating facts, there's a section called "Truth Stranger Than Fiction" which might have you laughing so hard, you may have the baby right then and there(maybe best to pick a name before reading this part).Names like Farmer Slusher, Nebraska Minor and Newton Hooton might give you ideas of what NOT to name your baby!

But the best part for me was a worksheet that was included with the book. It has lots of room for making choices. List all of Mom and Dad's favorites than move on tho the Final Choice worksheet, where you can also rate the names, and see how the whole name looks on paper. This section makes this quite a keepsake! When I look at back at some of the names I almost went with...well...thank goodness I didn't.....

Have fun with this great book if you're expecting or give it as a gift to someone who is. It will be greatly appreciated.

I've always been interested in baby names. I found this book to be quite helpful, because it doesn't go overboard with the alternative spellings. I guess it's good to have options, but it gets overwhelming, and this book is well-organized when it comes to that. The print is bold and somewhat large, so it's easy to read. You should buy it if you need to find a name or if you just find names interesting.

Though slightly outdated, _The Best Baby Name Book_ is still a good resource for baby names. Not only are there things to consider when naming your baby, there are stereotypes, fascinating facts about names, birthstones and flowers, a baby name worksheet and over 13,000 names to choose from. Each name is listed with it's origin, variations and nicknames clearly visible and easy to understand. I found quite a few interesting and beautiful names. Definitely one to keep around when you're making that important decision!

I found this book disappointing. The only way Lansky can claim 15,000 names is because he counts various, often silly, spellings as separate names. Is it really necessary to have "Nattalie" or "Pamula"?

We got this book to, of course, choose a name for our son. There are tons of suggestions & meanings. I liked the small (paperback book size) size of the book...was easy to throw in my purse & take with me to kill some time at the mechanic shop when my car was getting fixed.

In the back, there are two separate pages (one for Mom & one for Dad) to make a list of their favorite boy/girl names. Then you can compare your lists without the other seeing your list first. I liked that idea.

And you can't beat the price!

This book had so many names that we liked - we had a hard time especially since we had to pick out two names! I would highly recommend this one!

This collection of poetry should be in every elementary classroom and should be read aloud to the students. This book has never failed to help me get the attention of my students, they like it and I like it too. This book covers many subjects kids need to address in school and in life.

As a No.1 fan of Bruce lansky, I LOVE this book. the poems in it was not only funny and humorous, but also very inspiring. Unfortunately, I am not able to purchase such a book as there aren't any copies in Hong Kong except in the library in the city. I hoe that there will be more of your books sent to Hong Kong so as to let more of us Hong Kong people to know more about you and enjoy the joy of reading poetry!

My eight year old and ten year old really enjoy this book. The stories are funny, and still maintain the morals of traditional fairy tails. They especially like "The Real Story of Sleeping Beauty"

No one gets rewarded for stealing, for killing, or for being a spoilt brat. It's about time someone realized that most of the classic fairy tales should really be rated R and that they teach kis all kinds of wrong lessons. The heroes in this series are good role models and have fun as well. Wonderful for kids (and adults) of all ages.

This book makes you want to go out and buy up the many volumes by the greats of children's poetry (because it pales in comparison). The works of such luminaries as Dr. Seuss, Jack Prelutsky, Judith Viorst, or Shel Silverstein are clever, upbeat (and most of all) fun! On the other hand, this book is negative in tone, mean in spirit, and panders to the basest instincts of a first grader. If you read this book to your child, you'll have to wash out your own mouth with soap.

I really liked this book and was surprised that all the reviewers did not.

As a teacher I am constantly trying to find ways to engage my students in writing. My students can't get enough of Mr. Lansky's work. It has inspired children to write who have extreme difficulty doing so! It's a must have in a classroom and a great book to have in the home!!!
