A strong engaging relationship drama
In 1997 Borrego Springs, California, lawyer Arthur Litton offers a million dollars to buy baby Christopher for his clients, the child's grandparents. The father of the child, their son Rick recently died. Caroline Graham knows she cannot win a court battle against the wealthy Saunders so she disappears with her child.

Six years later, private investigator Jake Montgomery thinks he has found the vanished son of his deceased buddy Rick. Jake travels to Starlight Cove to meet painter Carly Nolan, single mother of six year old Christopher. Upon seeing her resemblance to a photo that Rick gave him of his fiancée, Jake concludes he has found Caroline. Jake knows reporting this would make his firm, but waits because he wants to do the right thing by Rick.

Jake introduces himself to Carly at the gallery. She finds him attractive, but fears any relationship might expose her and Chris. Jake is surprised by her vulnerability, but believes the guilty run and hide. He wonders if Chris might be better off with his widowed wealthy grandmother. As he begins to fall in love, his actions expose Carly and Chris.

This is a strong engaging relationship drama that hooks the reader from the start through a fully developed secondary cast supplementing the prime plot. Carly is a delightful protagonist living in fear, yet braving everything thrown at her. Jake seems too perfect as he seeks a middle ground between the woman he loves and the mother of his deceased best friend. Readers will appreciate this robust family drama.

Jill Marie Landis is a wonderful storyteller!
I have read all of Jill's books and each one is better than the first. I recently finished the book Sunflower and found it to be her best yet. She is great with her decriptions and storytelling which allows you to feel like the girl in the book. I would have to say that she is the best Historical Romance Author of all time, I highly recommend her. Especially to those who love romance books as I do. Sunflower is a definite must read. I anxiously await her next book coming in June 97.

This is a great book!
I loved this book of short stories. Usually when you read a book with short stories you might like only one or two. I loved all of the stories. If you like sweet, western historicals (like me) you should love this book! If you read this book, I hope you enjoy it!

A Valentine "Keeper!"
If you haven't read this collection, or known it was available, you will be so happy that it has been re-issued! I have always enjoyed reading Jill Marie Landis' novels. It was through this anthology that I discovered Jodi Thomas and Kathleen Kane. All three are well written historical novellas. If you like western US historicals, you will enjoy reading these!

A Beautiful Love Story
I have become a huge fan of Jill Marie Landis and this book is a big reason why. Eva Eberhart is working as a dance hall girl in order to fulfill her dream of opening her own theater (her parents are performers and she's been on stage since she was a child). She realizes, after constantly fighting off the advances of drunken patrons, that what she really wants is a home and a family. She answers an ad for a housekeeper thas has been placed by Chase Cassidy - a man struggling to raise his teenage nephew and run a cattle ranch in Last Chance Montana. Chase also is trying to escape his past - he did time in prison for aiding in a bank robbery. You get to know Chase's nephew Lance, the schoolteacher Rachel and the other ranch hands as well as the sherrif and the townspeople who aren't happy with having the former prisoner in their town. There are also bad guys still out to get Chase for getting them sent to prison for involvement in his sisters murder. Due to their pasts, both Eva and Chase feel unworthy of love and happiness. The events and people that bring them together make for a wonderful love story. I really liked all the characters and cried when things didn't work out for them ( though, of course, they do in the end) I would definetly recommend this book to anyone.

A touching love story
JADE is a wonderful love story set in San Francisco in 1875. Jade Douglas has returned from living in Paris to settle the estate of her father who has been murdered. Jason Harrington has come to SF from New Mexico to settle the estate of his late father. Jade is in need of funds in order to retrieve her grandfathers collection of Chinese art and her friend Babs decides marrying a rich man (like Jason) would solve her problem. Due to Babs manipulations a small scandal erupts and Jason proposes to Jade after telling her he loves her. She agrees to marry him when she realizes she loves him as well. Then, due to a misunderstanding, their marriage gets off to a terrible start which leaves both of them frustrated and angry - but still very much in love (even if they don't admit it to each other). Mixed in with this are attempts on Jade's life and the search for her father's killers. This book made me smile and it also made me cry (more than once). Jade starts out feeling unloved and allows others to dictate her life. Due to his parents divorce, Jason has a rather dim view of marriage. Both of them grow as people and the ending is warm and predictable. The love scenes are sensual, the passion evident. I really enjoy Ms. Landis' writing and would also recommend her books - "Sunflower", "Rose" and "Come the Spring".

a very good read
I love books when the guy is crazy about the girl and he definitely has it bad in a rough and sensitive kind of way. I would say Past Promises is probably one of Jill's best.

One of Landis's bests
Wildflower is about Dani, who finds herself helping two mysterious men, when she only wants to find her fathers partner. She is soon over her head in a mystery that she shouldn't be involved in. I really like Wildflower. I have read it many times.

Great story!
This is a very good audio book from Romance Alive audio, the audio was abridged but I enjoyed the story even though it was condensed, it is about a guy named Buck Scott who mistakes a lady named Annika Storm for his mail order bride and carries her off to his cabin to help take care of his niece who now lives with him and by the time he realizes his mistake all three are snowbound together in his cabin and Annika begins to warm up to him. Great story

3 rd in the tirlogy -- DEFINITELY A KEEPER
Finally it all comes together in a great romance -- only disappointment was for Caleb and Analisa - they should have had at least 2 more offspring.

Annika thought she knew a lot about life - Boston life that is -- but soon found to her dismay, when she was given a mistaken identity and kidnapped by Buck Scott, that she had a lot more to learn.

She started out in fear of this hulking blonde giant and ended up passionately in love with him. To this day, I find that so many of the younger generation could not survive if put into a similar situation.

Annika preferred her meat from a butcher rather than on the foot. I had to chuckle at her reaction to skinning a rabbit. It brought back memories.

She did show the inner strength of her mother in making the best of a situation and finally coming to grips with her lack of survival knowledge.

Buck Scott turned out to be a patient teacher [and in my mind] a loving, lovable man. The seduction scenes were not overly done and in keeping with the story.

Zach Elliot was back and as great as ever in his supporting, humorous role. Kase was stronger, of course he is 5 years older, and is presented as a more powerful, loving character. And his wonderful wife, Rosa, she is pregnant. Love her character.

I was really happy to see that Kase has taken on the role of collecting amd protecting the Buffalo.

These characters have such real depth that you wish you could go to Wyoming and visit them.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED -- should be listed as a keeper and a plus.

Friend wouldn't give it back!
I hale from Wyoming and encourage all readers from the state to read this book. If you love history, and which native doesn't?, this book will enchant you. Although there are no "Laramie Mountains", it becomes apparent she is talking about our beloved Rockies. This book touched a chord and I sent it to a friend, who won't return it, which makes me laugh. Enjoy a wonderful story and a real capsul of our state!

EXCELLENT -- #1 OF 3 BOOKS
EXCELLENT -- get all three books -- you won't be sorry.
Cord Moreau was to have attended his cousin, Alex's wedding -- now he is dead. And Henry Moreau, their grandfather, intended to make Cord pay.

Cord was to be married to the daughter of Thomas O'Hurley to fulfill Henry's contract. Alex would have, as Henry's heir, even though he loved Juliett and their children.
You will meet also, two distant cousins, twins, Stephen and Anton Caldwell who were barely eighteen.

Collin Ray was a trouble maker and afraid of Persa, who according to rumor had the gift of second sight.

Cordero took Celine to the plantation, Dunstain Place, where his Aunt Ada lived. More secrets to be uncovered.

It just gets better and better -- you won't be able to put this set down. The characters just pull you through the stories and you don't want them to end.
Definitely recommended and keepers all.

Become a Day Dreamer. . .
It isn't an everyday occurrence. You know what I mean. When you pick up a book, not expecting anything out of the ordinary and then you find out that you couldn't have been more wrong. Day Dreamer is definitely one of those books. At the beginning it seemed, to me, like Cord was a really rude, arrogant man, but as the story wears on you see that Cord isn't that way at all. He just hides his pain and suffering beneath the mask of hostility. Trying to shield his new wife from what remains of his bruised and battered heart. My heart ached when I read about how much Cord has suffered in his short life time. I couldn't help, but feel like his heart would never heal, not even with Celine by his side. Both have suffered so much pain in their lives, but they find in each other, a reason to live again, laugh again, and love for the first time.

Personally I don't feel like running from the law is the smart choice, but in Celine's case I couldn't help but cheer her on. Even if she would've waited for the police it wouldn't have mattered. They wouldn't have believed her side of the story. So, for her running was the only choice. But as you find out, you can't run from your past or hide from the future. The past eventually catches up with you. You'll hold your breath during the last sixty pages, but the ending will bring a smile to your face.

Wonderful! Could Not Put It Down!
This was my first Jill Marie Landis book and I am thrilled to have found this author! I love Celine and Cord, I hated to see this one come to an end. No wimpy whiney heroine here, and Cord is a Stud! You will love this book!
