Growing Fruit in the Upper Midwest
Published in Hardcover by Univ of Minnesota Pr (Trd) (April, 1991)

Indespensible reference for midwestern growers
Home and commercial growers in the Upper Midwest (Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, and the Dakotas) face major challenges in getting steady crops of quality fruit. Tree fruits, berries, and the like are better adapted to warmer areas. Most commercially available cultivars are not well adapted to the cold climate in and around Minnesota.

In this volume, Gordon combines the history of fruit growing in the area, basics of culture, and hardiness history of major varieties. This last piece of information is not available in any other source I have seen and by itself is worth more than the purchase price of the book to anyone contemplating a new planting of fruit trees, vines, or bushes.

Hardiness information is broken down by regions within each state, providing a more detailed look at the winter survival characteristics than can be gained by USDA hardiness zones alone.

In addition, Gordon provides some interesting historical ancedotes and cultural information. The cultural recommendations are the same as for other parts of the country, by and large, but the information is useful to the beginner.

awesome book
Don covers all the basics of all fruit varieties you can grow in the upper midwest. A book of reference fro anyone interested in growing an orchard in their yard

Stunning history!
Read this book after reading "Frozen in Time" (about the Franklin expedition lost in the arctic) and "Alive" (about a 1972 plane crash in the Andes), both terrible and true tales of people forced to fight death and starvation.

This book is as stunning as the other two!

The book is well researched. Dramatic. Brings to light details and hypothesis of how these people coped in the face of death.

It is interesting seeing this team piece together the Donner party's activities.

Fantastic read if your into human adventure & spirit!

Sailing as a metaphor for life
This book is about life. Most of it takes place on a sailboat (actually, several sailboats). It is not about sailing, although there is alot of sailing and misadventures about sailing in the book. If you have ever been sailing, ever owned a sailboat, or ever wanted to, you will enjoy this book. It is a very easy read. It is light hearted literature and the author is very honest about his sailing experiences (actually quite alot as a merchant marine officer in WWII, to recreational sailing in the Chesapeak and Narragansett Bays).

Not a Bad Story
This book is about the life of a confessed mob hit man. Some times books like this make me question if the author is not adding a little to make sure the buzz is there it sell the book. If this guy really did the damage he claims and for the reasons stated then why did not one of his "family" friends not put a hit out on him? And while we are talking, how many people have claimed to have been part of the Hoffa killing? So many they evidently needed to pick Hoffa up in a school bus to fit all the killers in.

Don't get me wrong; this is a very entertaining book, with just an armload of tabloid type details about the mafia and a lot of interesting stuff on the government and the witness protection program. The book is a very interesting jump into the world of the Mafia and you will remember of lot of the story for a good while after you have finished it.

This can be your first step in self improvement
"Get Organized: How to Control Your Life Through Self Management" can be considered your first step in personal progression in the game of Life. However, it can't stand alone as the "only read" necessary in personal growth and enhancement. A good book that is well organized, "Get Organized" can be a great life enhancer if combined with "Seven Habits of Highly Effective People"

Rehash.
This book is a poorly done editing of "The Indian Drum," by William MacHarg and Edwin Balmer, which was originally published in 1917. If you are looking for a great adventure set in Chicago and northern Michigan early in the nineteenth century, then look for a copy of the original.
