Please read this if you own lakeshore!
We are upsetting nature and killing our lakes with lawns to the waters edge and removing all the natural vegetation. Read this book before you start landscaping. You can make it a win-win situation with you and nature.

Invaluable Resource For Lakeshore Property Owners
As a lakeshore property owner in northern Minnesota I would like this book to be read by all lakeshore property owners. Lakeshore environments are in need of our best conservation efforts.

Learning about the role of "aquatic weeds," dead trees, "brush," and live trees enables us to improve lake water quality and our relationship with wildlife. The information, presented by authors with expertise, will be useful in the planning of your lakeshore while learning about and understanding the wonderful diversity of lakeshore environments.

The layout's inviting, full of graphics and easy to read. The nine chapters deal with lakeshore landscaping and problems, site preparation and plant installation, shoreline stabilization and maintenance, good stewardship and more.

There are also thirteen useful appendices that include the state rules of Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan, while other appendices help you identify and locate native plants and invasive non-native plants.

This is the perfect gift for every lakeshore property owner! Full of information and fun to read!

Where Did All the Water Go? is a mystery!
I live with my mom & dad on Herring Bay on the western shore of the Chesapeake Bay. One morning, all I could see was mud! When I asked my parent where did all the water go, they said not to worry, the water would be back. My dad thinks the wind has pushed the water away. I imagine the wind blowing all the water across the Bay. I think of where all the water went.

What a long day it was at school, I couldn't stop thinking about how all my friends, the fish & the birds who would perish without the water & the school bell couldn't come soon enough. What would I find when the school bus dropped me off at the Bay? Would the water still be far away?

With David Aiken's enchanting & whimsical artwork, Carolyn Stearns has written an informative & exciting little book about the comings & goings of salt water bays. Delightful & a keeper! Do check out my full review & many others of neat children's books.

Delightful/thoughtful/very readable/beautifully illustrated
Childhood is the most wonderful time of discovery -- of the world and of self. Author Carolyn Stearns evokes this sense of wonder -- and concern -- that all children (and most adults) feel when their world suddenly changes dramatically and they don't know why. The story is about a true natural phenomenon that occurs once in a while on the Chesapeake Bay -- that cosmic wonder! -- when the tides and the wind and the moon and other weather factors are just right. Surprise, consternation, a sense of loss, fear, worry, skepticism, reassurance from wise and understanding parents, joy and renewed faith are all a part of the story. The illustrations of David Aiken are stunning and inspired, and complement the text beautifully. This is a timeless book of spare and direct prose for children of any age, to be read to younger ones aged 2-8 and read by older ones aged 9-99. And is the storyteller a girl or a boy?

FIRST HALF OF BOOK IS FAKE BY LAKE
Casey Tefertiller who brought us a brilliant book on Wyatt Earp (The Life and Legend) in 1997 wrote an introduction to this book, knowing that it was written by two different people. Dodge was never undercover for Wells Fargo. There is not a shred of evidence of that. His widow said his Tombstone notes were burned so Lake faked the first half and now Tefertiller should have used terpentine to remove varnish and reveal truth. Another hoax a la .... Another demerit for a University Press.

On My Great Great Grandfather
I loved reading this book. I am not a western theme type reader and although I may be bias, it was a great book.
