Electrical Energy, Laithwaite and Freris.
Among the many texts on the subject of the generation, transmission or use of electrical energy, this one stands out as having a flair and a novel approach, and as giving a good intuitive understanding of the subject.

All too often, a technical text can be a rehash of established concepts, repeating formulae and ideas that differ mainly in layout from those in any other such book. The tremendously broad and probing mind of Professor Laithwaite has looked at _why_ our present systems have developed in such a way: what effects would stem from changing and even inverting current practice (Laithwaite's "through the looking glass" penchant), and what many other physical systems can be analogues of electrical machines.

Besides this unique and brilliant exploration of the subject, the standard concepts and formulae are presented on the broad range of subject areas that this book addresses.

I recommend this book to anyone with an interest in electrical power or applied science in general.
