If you liked the time trilogy, you'll like these stories.
With the same sense of wonder and matter-of-fact descriptions of the incredible as "A Wrinkle in Time" and it's sequels, these two stories of what might have happened in the life of Jesus while he lived in Egypt are WONDERFUL. It's a treat to look at Jesus life from a fantasy aspect, and any Madeline L'Engle fan will enjoy these stories immensely. I highly recommend them to all.

The best Madeleine L'Engle Resource available!
Considering the vast literary contribution of Madeleine L'Engle, this book surely took monumental effort -- fortunately it doesn't read that way. Carole Chase is to be congratulated for producing a biographical & critical work that is academically responsible and imminently readable; she has created the first comprehensive L'Engle resource and she has done it with "a heart".

If your reading of Madeleine L'Engle has produced a desire for you to know this fascinating author better -- Suncatcher is for you. Not only will you be engaged by her fervancy and spiritual vision, you will likely be astounded at how widely she has written. Chase has ignored nothing -- drawing from the more than fifty books of fiction, poetry and philosophical/theological writings as well as many of her unpublished letters and other work.

Plus, this new addition has tremendously valuable new resources for the serious L'Engle reader:

· Madeleine L'Engle's 1963 Newbery Medal Acceptance Address (Very Rare)

· A forward by Madeleine L'Engle herself (New)

· Comprehensive and up-to-date relational diagrams, clearly illustrating the interconnections among L'Engle's fictional characters and families (This is outstanding!)

· Newly-created, comprehensive character catalog with cross-references!

· AND... this new edition is fully up to date with respect to Madeleine's most recent books and publications as of late 1998.

After reading Suncatcher, I wanted to go back and re-read Wrinkle in Time and I disovered many other L'Engle books that I want to read for the first time.

Read Suncatcher: A Study of Madeleine L'Engle and Her Writing... you won't be disappointed!

Madeleine L'Engle is Dear to my heart
Madeleine L'Engle is a wonderful woman who has her own thoughts about faith and religion that prove to be close to the heart. I recommend this book if you are open to learning about your own faith potential, if you love children's books, or if you love eating chocolate jelly beans. Please take me seriously! This book is one I want to have for myself so I can be reminded over and over how children's authors take special care to incorporate faithful things for children to consider.

Read this book to young children at Christmas time.
Against the backdrop of the approaching Christmas holiday, her role in the church play, and her family's wonderful holiday traditions, young Vicky Austin experiences feelings of rivalry for a sibling not yet born, and whose impending birth threatens to disrupt the holiday. This is a warm, loving book. It is an excellent story for older children, and I would recommend making the reading of it, chapter by chapter, part of a family's preparation for Christmas, like a literary advent calendar

life-changing
Madeline L'Engle's perception on life truly is unique and uplifting and after reading this book only 4 short weeks after my own wedding day, I am approaching the years with my husband and future family from a completely new angle. In a story centered around a 40 year marriage, Ms. L'Engle was at all times a model of passion, creativity, courage, faith, and self-sacrificing love. If you choose not to live by the "norm"; if your prayers come in all forms; if you live by the pulse of the city or the rhythm of nature; if family time comes at any hour of the day; if you love someone so completely that you are willing to let them die first-- read this book. I promise it will change your life.

A Wrinkle in Time
This text was my first meeting with the written word of Madeleine L'Engle and i must say i was entranced. Her writing is clear - a good children's text in the vein of the Harry Potter stories. It is a little bit science fiction with subtle Christian themes (but not over-powering - thank God!). Just a delightful text.
