A book whose time has come!
If ever such a book of wisdom and understanding was needed in world, now is the time! As our personal and collective awareness have become raw with violence perpetrated upon ancient separateness and hatred, this book becomes a must read over and over again. It is a profound resource for all of our altars - a multifaceted and powerful way to focus our prayers for wholeness and for healing - for each other and for our world.

A Serious Guide
Now that we've opened our minds to alternative healing, we have found that many of these spiritual practices have always been there! Modern Psychology and Ancient Wisdom is a guidebook to the psychological healing practices of the world's religious traditions. In her introduction to the book, editor and co-author Sharon Mijares guarantees us that this is not a treatise on dogma. She's right. It's a serious guide to spiritual healing practices detailed by thoughtful scholars and teachers qualified to share the power of spirituality. The book will be extremely helpful to practitioners, but this anthology of stories, chants, dances, and meditations is not simply a guide for professionals. It's a superb collection for the body/mind/spirit of the common reader as well.

Just what I was looking for -- great reference
As a beginning Java Programmer, I was looking for a reference for all the java packages. This book contains all objects which changed since the JDK 1.1. I continue to use it daily. The one dissapointment I had, was my own missunderstanding of the nature of the book. As the title implies this is a supplement, if you want a complete reference you must buy the vol 1 and 2 of the java reference. The index in this book will refer you to the other volumns for an object which did not change in 1.2. The organization is well thought out and the coding examples are helpful to me as a beginner. The completeness and index make this a superb reference manual.

Other books are nice, but this one is necessary.
This book (and the Volume 1 companion) are required for any Java programming. Every class, field and method is covered in detail. Novices will need other material (like the online tutorial) for language syntax, and how to program. But all Java programmers need these books within arms reach.

Underrated at 5 stars
Maybe it's unhelpful to say every java programmer needs this book Period, but it really is indispensable, at least in the first few weeks. When programming, nothing should really be vague, and this book has the advantage over the online Javadocs (at java.sun.com/products/jdk/1.2/docs/) for having the little implementation notes. For example, it mentions some tiny, fairly interesting things about Enumerations that aren't mentioned online.

On the other hand, the advantage of the Javadocs is that they are newer. I just looked at Enumerations while typing this, and noted that the Iterator interface may be a halfway interesting replacement. Important? I don't know, but much of programming is the accumulation of little things that strikes one in little ways.

And you can't cut & paste from the book, which is a much more reliable way of entering text than typing. But the examples are nice, and you can lug the thing around pretty well.

Very informative, easy to read, but pretty dry
I have been reading this text for my clinical psych class, and it's really informative. the authors provide a really good overview of everything so you get breadth and depth. The only drawback is the book is pretty dry reading. Some authors have the talent of making the textbook interesting and informative, but this is not one of those textbooks.

Comprehensive textbook in clinical psychology
This textbook can be used as an introduction as its name suggests, and it also can be used as a kind of reference book after you have learned some more stuff in clinical psychology. What is good about this text is that it talks about every aspect of clinical psychology, from assesment, testing, observation, to intervention, and it also talks about sub areas such as child clinical, health psychology, neuropsychology, and forensic psychology. It sites many famous studies in clinical psychology. Good examples and some accounts on history as well.
