A Recreation of Prokov's Classic Tale!
This book's fantastic! It docoments the story of Chuck Jones thinkin he was gonna do a better version of Peter and the Wolf than Walt Disney. It contains tons of colour and black and white photos from the film.Chuck Jones'animation, like Disney himself,is splendid. The other WB animatours, like Robert McKimson,Friz Freling and Tex Avery have animation as splendid like Disney himself. In fact, this version of Peter and the Wolf is way better than Walt Disney's version of Peter and the Wolf! Relive the moment it was first made in this book!

Not so "complete", but...
A somewhat carefully made edition, with texts in russian and translated to english and french. Rachmaninoff's songs are of unsurpassed beauty and richness; This "lieds" recquires special skills for the performers; the piano parts are not mere accompanyments, but complex and and difficult in essence. The problem is, although the title of this book says "complete", it is not: some songs, which don't have specific opus numbers, are not in this compilation. The maximum rate is given only because it's... Rachmaninoff.

The Russians do Math Right
In sharp contrast to standard US math education, which
is generally a death march from algebra to calculus, this
book suggests a wonderful new way to organize the ideas
of elementary mathematics. The organizational principle
here is around fundamental ideas that underlie
every mathematical proof ever conceived: parity, the
pigeonhole principle, induction, counting (combinatorics),
etc. Each section starts off with easy problems that anyone
can get, and leads you through to more and more challenging
illustrations of that section's principle; the last problems
of each section are often quite sophisticated and rewarding.
Do the problems in this book, and you can't help but just
be smarter for it.

When I was a kid, I was mystified by puzzle problems that I
had no idea how to tackle, and intimidated by kids who could
solve those types of problems. Had this book been available
back then, it would have de-mystified those problems for me,
and I would have acquired the kinds of skills and insights
that make a real mathematician. Whatever your age, if you
are interested in developing your core competencies in math,
I can't think of a better endeavor than to do all the problems
in this book. If I were the US Secretary of Education, I would
make solving all the problems in this book a mandatory
requirement for all math teachers, and all graduating high
school students. Even a partial implementation of such a
policy would make this country mathematically literate in a
way that we can't even conceive of today. It would de-mistify
mathematical "genius" on a global scale.

Super science book!
This is a great book to get children involved in hands on science. The book takes you through a 10 day investigation with pillbugs. I have found that many of my students get over their fear of bugs after doing this project.

A marvelous bargain, after some cutting and pasting...
The full score of Rachmaninoff's most popular symphony is a wonderful bargain at Dover's price. (The competing version by Boosey & Hawkes is more than twice as expensive, and hard to find outside of music stores, unlike the popular Dover series.) A problem: a production error resulted in the reprinting of the music on page 73 on page 78; the solution, photocopy page 110 (whose 8 bars are identical to the missing page) and paste it over page 78. Dover has been alerted by me about this error, but apparently errant copies are still in circulation. Also, be alerted that many recordings of this symphony make significant cuts in the music, especially in the outer movements, so be alert if you are using this to follow a recording!

Lives of the Musicians--Good Times, Bad Times, and What the
I first read lives of the musicians when I was about 7 yearsold or so. Then, I thought it was terrific. I still do. However, I amnow 12 years old, and now that I have paid more attention to it, I see several faults, but overall it is still a very good book. First of all, their choice of musicians is not the best. I would have recommended Debussy and Schubert, like the Kirkus Reviewer. Some of the composers I have hardly ever heard of, like Igor Stravinsky or Nadia Boulanger. And while Clara Schumann was a great pianist, I think they should have focused more on her husband, Robert, a prolific composer, whose works are among the very best. Also, some of the parts of the biographies are questionable. Frederic Chopin may not have actually been romantically involved with Aurore Dudevant (George Sand), but in love with the Countess Delphine Potocka. The book states that the Waltz in D-Flat, or Minute Waltz, was written for George Sand's dog, when in fact it was probably written for Potocka. However, the book was still very well written, and I enjoyed it, despite the possible mistakes. I recommend this book to anyone who likes music, classical or not. So sit back and enjoy!

I Loved This Book.....
I loved this book because it made those musicians seem like real people instead of great-all-star-super-geniuses. It is full of strange little facts about all the famous musicians like Bach,Gershwin,Beethoven and Schmann.

Lives of the Musicians
This book provides interesting insight into the lives of composers. I teach music to elementary and high school students and I read this book to all of my students. They all enjoy learning the details of the composers lives. The book presents the composers in such a way that the students remember the information about the composers. The book does not provide information about what the composers' music sounds like, and that is something I also like to teach. A great book to gain kids'interest in famous composers.

Captivating!
This book really captured me. There were so many facets to the main character, Tanner Finley, that I wanted to just reach out and hold him, embrace him and hug him. Even before I started reading this book, I knew it was something special; I felt it in my "middle." The author was able to put into words so many of my deepest feelings. Even now, three days later, I still wonder how he was able to reach into my head and heart and find my soul. Bravo, Mr. Sergey, and Thank You!

Inspiring
I could not put this book down, it is so very well written.
I felt as if I knew Tanner and Mike, Renee and the others. This book is not the typical romance story, it's realistic, it's from a man's point of view, a man who is not afraid to look into life's window.

Author John Sergey takes you on a journey that will make you laugh, cry, believe and inspire.

good for the price
For the price, this is a good book. But I found the print a little bit light. So if your eyes aren't that great anymore, be aware.

Couldn't be better!
If you want a book that has all of Rachmaninoff's preludes and etudes-tableaux in one attractive edition, this is the book for you. This is a must-have for any Rachmaninoff lover!

Excellent edition, complete Rachmaninoff preludes & etudes.
This volume is a comprehensive Rachmaninoff collection containing all his preludes and etudes, including the famous C# minor prelude from his early years as well as his well-known G minor, C minor and B flat preludes; all great music. Etudes-Tableaux are picturesque and colorful, having elements of the Russian melodic style, such as the D minor Op. 33. For any aspiring pianists, this is essential repertoire and the edition & price are fantastic. Nice picture on the cover (Russian domes in the background).
