A GREAT JOURNEY WITH VAN GOGH
One of the best pieces that I ever read explaining paintings along the different periods which were passed by Van Gogh. Also, it gives a complete ride through his life and personality.

A Quality Work!!
I have this book and I am so glad ,I discovered it. I am, a painter, and have always been influenced by Van Goghs work. However most of the books I own do not have very good quality , printing .This book however is excellent! It is very close to , standing in front of the original painting. I would recomend this book to anyone that loves Van Gogh. I am so proud to make this book a part of my art library. Get it while you can!!

Didn't see the exhibit? Read the book!
The next best thing if you weren't able to make it to this record-breaking exhibition in Washington and Los Angeles. This book, an overview of the exhibition, is an extremely thorough and interesting overview of the 70 works on display. But it's more than that. I was very impressed with Richard Kendall's commentary in the book. Not only is this a comprehensive and thoughtful look at the "Van Gogh's Van Goghs" exhibition, it's also an excellent look at Van Gogh's life and career--period. I might have expected this--this major exhibition was superb and this catalogue is a worthy companion. Exhibition or not, this book is first-rate.

This guy can write!
What a beautiful story! It's so nice to see a well-written book with a good message. I'm sure that we can expect great things to come from this author.

Brilliant and beautiful!
With understated simplicity, Morano's wonderful characters provide insightful commentary on religion, gender, race and other social issues. "A Wing And A Prayer" is a beautiful story for all ages...I was unable to put it down until I had finished it. It has forever changed my view of nature and of animals...I wonder if they're not like Lupe and his friends, with beliefs, hopes, and dreams...

Not just for kids
No matter what your age, you will find yourself caught up in the life of Lupe. The wonderfully three-dimensional characters will make you laugh and cry as you find yourself being drawn into the story with each chapter. Despite the suggested age range, it's a page turner.

One of the two wonderful classical guitar collections
This book is one of the 2 most desirable and collectible books on classical guitars (the other one is: Collection of Fine Spanish Guitars from Torres to the Present by Urlik, Sheldon). The figures are superb and the text informative. The hard cover edition is better in the following senses:

1. The hard cover edition is a limited edition (6000 copies only).
2. It is like a textbook which can be opened fully on its back. Easy for reading and scanning.
3. It's got a hard protective slipcase

However, getting the softcover edition might be your choice for its price and availability.

Incredible Book
If you are a lover of guitars, specifically classical guitars, you owe it to yourself to purchase this book. There is nothing else like it. Great photography, details on some of the best guitars from some of the best makers...Romanillos, Smallman, Bernabe...They are all here. Inclusively, the book covers players (Williams, Bream, Segovia) as well as an in depth look at wood and the guitar market today. Great stuff and at ..., an incredible bargain.

Beautiful photos and layout, a wonderful collection
Any lover of the classical guitar cannot help but appreciate this gorgeous collection of instruments, as well as the way in which they are displayed on the pages. Filled with information about the guitars and their construction, the luthiers, and which players'CDs you can hear them on, I highly recommend this fine edition. I take issue only with the subtitle "A Complete History", as the guitars are based on a single collection of instruments, owned by Russell Cleveland, and not necessarily what any other person would consider "Complete". That fact does not diminish my enjoyment of this exquisite book one bit.

A "must read" for serious dino fans.
You'll know this book when you see it - the dust jacket features a toothy Allosaurus (Utah's official State Fossil) sporting yellow polka-dots. Barney he ain't.

Author Frank de Courten is a palaeontologist, formerly at the You of You, now at Sierra College in California. De Courten, with handlebar mustachio and cowboy hat, fits comfortably into the romantic image of a Dinologist, and he's well-aware of the popular appeal of the critters. Fortunately he's literate too (another pretty-common trait in the trade, thank heavens), and his prose reads smoothly, though you're going to have to be *seriously* interested to get through all 300 oversize pages...

But it's a beautiful book, nice heavy smooth paper, full cloth binding, lots of color photos, some really *outstanding* color plates by artist Carel van Kampen -- really, it's a lot of book for [the money]. At the very least, check it out from your library, and of course if there's a dino-lover on your gift list...

The best popular adult book on U.S. dinos
This book is about the dinosaurs of Utah (and dinosaurs found close enough to Utah that it can safely be presumed they crossed the border), but it is also second to none I've read as a discussion of U.S. dinosaurs in general if you're already brushed up on your dino basics (although not overly technical, the author does waste no time in getting down to business).

The book covers equally the great dinosaurs of the midwest - especially the Jurassic dinosaurs the area is world famous for - and their environment (an asset or a negative depending on your interests). A particular strength is that almost equal space is given to the more obscure species and their more famous counterparts when the fossil record warrants it. Gorgeous artwork clinches this work as a gem - certainly in my top 10 dino books.

Terrific. Intelligent and readable combination of palentology and geology of Utah. I used to live in SLC and visited eastern and southeastern Utah. The incredible vistas comprise the largest museum in the world. Wonderful to see in again in photos. The paintings of the Mesozoic are spectacular. This book deserves a place in your library, public or home.

A must!
Lists to live by is a must have. Great for any collector or someone looking for a quick inspiration. This book is a keeper for all time. I recommend keeping in the living room for a quick peek now and then. I keep it to remind me there are good things in life and to help me be a better person, religious or not it will enlighten you.

A book I would read over and over
When I bought this book, I couldn't put it down. I enjoyed reading this book because it's full of lists which made semse to me and gave me a perspective on what is important to me. The lists are valuable with meaning and thought provoking. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading lists.

Just what everyone needs!
I am not a reader by all means, but I am beginning to be. I have enjoyed reading this book so much, that I want to share it with all my Family and friends, but this is not a book you can let someone borrow because you will never get it back (lots of laughes), you will want to own it, so you can go back and read it over and over. Hope you enjoy it as much as I have.

I Remember Mama
Published in Hardcover by Harcourt (1945)

Okay
I read this book with my teacher and classmates. I would, first of all, reccomend this book to teachers to read with their class, because it is a play, and it is fun to read with a lot of children. There are a lot of things we can learn from the book. Except an occasional swear word ( this is the reason I only gave the book 4 stars), It is a very good book.

The book is about a family who was very poor. Some of the very important characters are: Mama- who is a very smart person, who counts every penny papa (her husband) brings home from work. Katrien- one of Mama's daughters whose dream is to become a writer when she grows up. Lars, Christine, & Dagmar- Mama's other children. Jenny, Sigrid, & Trina- Mama's sisters. Uncle Chris- Moma's brother, who is also the "head" of the family. Mr.Thorkleson- Trina's husband to be. These I think are the most important characters in the book.

It is kind of hard to understand at first, but you'll get get used to it. Happy Reading!

A fellow author reviews this book
I purchased this to look at because I was writing about another fascinating "Mama." I forgot what a wonderful story it is. It's about an era most of us have forgotten or never knew. I loved it, as I loved the movie which saw when I was quite young. It is a touching story of the influence this woman had on her family. We should all have this kind of mother. Too bad we don't. Read "Dancing in the Dark: Things My Mother Never Told Me" and you will find the story of an entirely different mother.

hearth and home in a New Land
Kathryn Forbes' "I Remember Mama" is a classic tale of Norwegian newcomers on the west coast, which became a long-running, highly popular tv series as well as a movie. The central figure is the wise, loving, enduring matriarch of the clan. Supremely happy in her new home, she proudly says, "I am a San Franciscan." Surrounded by sisters and cousins and other relatives from the old country, as so many immigrant families were at that time, she raises her own brood in changing times.

The book portrays family unity, love and laughter rising above hardships. Children will enjoy this book as much as adult readers, as it speaks to the best in immigrant experience.

A practical guide for affirming personal ministry
This is a great guide for the seeker or believer who has a heart to serve and needs a process to explore their personal uniqueness. The servant profile of passion, spiritual gifts and personality is a simple yet effective framework for facilitating a person to find pertinent ministry outlets. Having experienced the process personally, I found the design and flow of the course to be especially good, from the video vignettes to the huddle groups to the gift affirmation process, in which you have others help give perspective to your gifts. I also found the immplementation and leadership materials to be quite helpful in proposing and putting to work a gift-based ministry design in the local church. The only downside to the Network gift-based approach MIGHT be the "modernist" flavor that permeates the material. If you identify more with "postmodern" perspectives you might find Rick Warren's SHAPE process a bit more resonating. Overall though, a very good book that has had a signifigant impact in how churches are designing ministries and placing volunteers for service....I heartily recommend it.

Everything the Network Consultant needs to know in a nutshel
A concise and easy to use guide for consultants using the Network system in their churches. This guide succeeds in giving detailed guidance through the consultation (step 2) process of learning how to apply Spiritual Gifts. Network is an amazing system of assisting Christians in discovering and applying their spiritual gifts and talents to building God's Kingdom. These materials are definietly the means of growing transformed disciples who will transform the world through dedicated and enthusiastic service in God's Kingdom. This guide is a MUST for everyone who is a consultant in the Network Process! It give the ins and outs of consultations with example phrases and detailed outlines. I wouldn't want to consult without it!

Discover this NOW
I just completed the class this book accompanies. This was a milestone event for my wife and me. Both of us were saying "No wonder I'm like this and you're like that." I would recommend this for you not only to find your place in church (which it can help you with), but also to find your place in life. This book can focus you in on your Passion (where you should be), your Gifts (what you should be doing) and your Personal Style (how you will be doing it). This book will shine a light on you. Stop fighting your innate makeup and tendencies. And figure out just exactly what you are and how God made you.

Perfect for those who love short clips
This is an excellent book for those with little time or who love "snippits". Each page has a title and an outtake from one of St. John's many homilies. Due to its concise nature, this book has been edited and paraphrased by the author (whom isn't an Orthodox Christian if that matters to you)... It is unknown, but hopped, that he kept most, if not all, of the original words and intent... Anyway, this is worth reading and carries some very pertinent advice on "Living Simply".

Timeless Simplicity
On Living Simply is a wonderful way to introduce yourself to the simple eloquence of St. John Chrysostom. His words illustrate his profound insight into life that is as applicable now as when it was origionally recorded in Late Antiquity. If you are interested in Patristic Christian thought or just in Ancient Wisdom, I highly recommend this book to you.

A Life-changing Book!
Chrysostum was a true saint and a man of humble spiritual enlightenment. His words ring true even in for modern times. Truth may go out of fashion but it is the same in every generation, and this dear man lived loved the truth. This is not the ordinary spiritual book but a masterpiece on matters of the soul. A book well worth adding to your library!
