I read this book at 14 (1982) and I thought this heroine ROCKED! I think it's so unfair when a young girl, whether a little girl or a teen, wants to do something and some adult says "but young ladies don't do that." So, Zan Hagen, I felt your pain. I did kinda wish the author had given Suzanne a boyfriend, though, to show young girls that sports and sweethearts CAN mix. But I think it's an excellent book.

Zan, short for Suzanne, doesn't want to have take ballet and baton twirling lessons in her PE class. She wants to play football. The highschool coach tells her that no girls play on his football team. She starts up her own team. It is made up of girls who are just like Zan. They play the JV squad and WIN!!!!

I had never heard of Babe Didrikson and only came across the book because it was about to be thrown out. What a save! The book is wonderful. I am an elementary school teacher, and this book and Babe Didrikson's life story will definately be shared in my classroom. The book is well written, and Babe's story is interesting and inspiring.

This is a story about Olympic runners. They find a Native American girl who can incredibly fast. They try to convince her to join them. They run into numerous problems with her pride, stubborness and her fear of guns. This is a story about friendship, determination, and faith. Its about the obstacles we must overcome and the friendships that make it possible.

This book was very good I think but it didn't tell everything it could have about her childhood. May Swenson has an interesting life and an interesting poems!

This is one of those books that sticks with you long after junior high. During a camping trip in the Florida Everglades, two girls find themselves separated from the group as a hurricane strikes. Despite their intense dislike for each other, they are forced to pool their resources and rely on each other's strengths in order to survive.

This is a tale of unexpected courage, and I highly recommend it to girls in their early teens.
