Thank you Mrs. Knight
At Home With Gladys Knight is a wonderful, inspiring book. I bought this book for my parents who both have diabetes. After years of trying to get them to follow doctor recommended diets it is a relief to have a book that inspires my parents to not only care about their diet, but their physical fitness as well.
Mrs. Knight has created a quick and easy read that is full of motivation. This book gets 5 stars in the Murphy household.

A must read for married women who are high-achievers
Finally someone has written on the subject of high-achieving women and our tendency to try to do it all! The author explores how some men take advantage of this trend by allowing their women to "carry" them financially, as well as how the trend can be a negative in the development of a strong and healthy marriage.

This idea of doing it all and "carrying" others is burning women out. I have personally seen it all too often in the 90's. The author explores this through the many examples. She gives a nice variety in the chosen women who share their experiences.

It is really a positive book. I would suggest reading it to save yourself and your relationship.

reading between the lines.
though gladys knight has attained diva status in the world of music, the details of her life have, thusfar, been clouded in mystery; a self-proclaimed "homebody", her personal trials and tribulations have never been the subject of public discourse like those of artists such as toni braxton and whitney houston. _between each line of pain and glory_ attempts to remedy that by giving spoken voice to the joy and heartache that has flavoured every song that knight has sung. missing, however, is the raw look at the real goings-on of the music industry that are present in autobiographies such as _i, tina_ and _don't block the blessings_, while knight explains that she was infrequently a participant in the on-the-road highjinx that permeate the industry, one would think that a front-row seat would provide a vantage point that would result in greater insight. it could be that the same propriety that prevented her from taking a lot of wrong turns also kept her from writing of less more seedy side of the music scene; for that she should not be faulted. what the book DOES do a good job at revealing is the day-to-day life of one of berry gordy's second-string acts and her decline into gambling addiction. after reading this book and revisiting her music, it becomes apparent that knight's personal life has not been a secret to fans all these years, but rather has been reflected in every line of pain and glory that she has sung.

The Makings of a Soul Diva
Oh, just picked up the paperback to seeing her on an old 'Jeffersons' rerun (remember that). Loved this book! Gladys has always been a favorite of mine- that rich, flawless delivery underlined with down to earth truth and conviction- she is among the leading voices that brought soul music to the mainstream America in the 1960's.
I was mist intrigued by her honesty throughout the book, especially in speaking of her parenting of her children. I commended her for that. Her gambling addiction was another testament of how she overcame adversity and came out a winner, which was another source of inspiration for myself. I also really appreciated her honesty in relation to her tenure with Motown and the treatment they received while on the legendary label.
And then there was the dirt! What is the deal between she and Aretha? I always perceived that they would be good friends, especially since both encompass such mesmarizing, soulful voices.... I love Dionne, and I could not see her acting the way Patti portrayed her.
This is a inspirational, well written piece of work. I would recommend this purchase and much love and success to Ms. Knight for decades to come.

I enjoyed this very candid and inspirational book.
Gladys Knight did an exceptional job of revealing her life of pain and glory. She had me bumping into walls as I left work each day because I couldn't wait to get home to continue reading. I know that she is a gifted performer, but I now know that she is a gifted writer as well. This is a must read.
