A Different Season This book is about a boy who has to make a decision if a girl should play on his baseball team. He said that a girl does not belong on a baseball team, but the city over rules him and she gets to play on the team. The boy is the big time jock in school, and the girl is a sophomore and the best softball player in school, but baseball is a whole lot harder than softball. I think this is the best book I have ever read. Excellent insight into life in the Soviet Union
This book is one which describes how life in the Soviet Union really was. The citizens spend all of their spare time and energy trying to work around their opressive government through deals in the black market and through building personal relationships and relying on "pull". The vast difference between the lifestyles of Communist Party members and common citizens is clearly depicted.

The Troubled Mind
The novel You Don't Know Me, written by David Klass, is a very good book. It is also a truthful book that shows the troubled mind of many teens. It deals with many of the problems teens have now and when the book was written. There are many different problems John, the main character, has to deal with. As well as having many of the mental and emotional troubles of being a teenager, John is being beaten by a man his mother is about to marry. John tries to hide what is happening to him from his teachers and most important of all, his mother. However one of his more compassionate teachers, Mr. Steenwilly, realizes that something isn't quite right and lets him know that if John needs anyone to talk to he is there for him. John starts to gain some confidence and takes the girl of his dreams, known to him as Glory Hallelujah, out on a date. Just as the world seems to have a light side to it, his date's father threatens his life. He is forced to run home leaving some of his valuables belongings behind. As the night reaches its horrible peak he gets home late to a drunken man who shows him no mercy. As the book goes on John gets wrapped up in his own mind, contemplating things such as turning in the man who is not his father and even worse, suicide. Toward the end of the book he falls in love with a girl from his band. This feeling of being important over comes him and causes him to stand up to the drunken man living in his house. However doing so causes him to be beaten severely. Mr. Steenwilly's curiosity and caring for this boy saved Johns life. In the end John realizes that he is important to those around him and conquers his troubled mind.

* YoU dOn'T kNoW mE*
This was probably the BEST book I have ever read. I liked the charactorization and the plot. It was very descriptive and I liked how the author ( David Klass ) described everything with so much detail. YOU DON'T KNOW ME is a book about a 14 year old boy named John who deals with everyday problems that average teenagers deal with. Most of the book is about him working up the curage to ask out "Glory Hallelujah", a girl that he has liked forever. Also, he has to deal with his mom's boyfriend whom he calls "the man who is not my father". While John's mother is not around, her boyfriend yell's at John and has verbal meltdowns. John also deals with algebra. John dreads this class the most. His teacher sometimes gives him a hard time about not liking algebra. In about the middle of the book, John actually works up the courage and asks out " Glory Hallelujah". After that, he has a whole new prespective of things. When he enters the algebra class room, he is actually smiling. This is a really good book and I suggest it to kids ages 12~15... it talks about struggles that teenagers have and its interesting to read if you are around that age.

You Don't Know Me
I have to admit the first time I picked up this book I was a little doubtful. The first few pages confused me so much that I nearly stopped reading. But I was intrigued so I plowed through. Never have I been happier. This book is amazing. The main character John, narrates from a second person view and it works like a charm. Basically John is a boy who lives in a home thats not a home and has friends that aren't friends. He also has a man, who's not his father, physically abusing him. Despite the serious subject the book can be hilarious at times. He uses sardonic humor to completely draw the readers in. Put simply, this book has vaulted on top of my all-time favorite list, and I've read alot of books. Hilarious and thouroughly moving to the very last page.

A Great Mix of Basketball and Adventure
Danger Zone is a very good book. I really enjoyed it because it was about basketball and adventure. The Basketball part was easy for me to understand because I have played basketball in the past and I could relate to it, and the adventure part of the book kept me turning the pages to find out what would happen next. This book was also enjoyable for me because it was full of controversy and that made it very interesting for me to read. The controversy was of race, but David Klass did a great job of integrating basketball into the arguments also.

The main argument in the story is between Jimmy and Augustus. Both Jimmy and Augustus are on the USA's 17 and under American all star team. Augustus is mad at Jimmy because Jimmy took Augustus' cousin's place on the team and he thinks this is because Jimmy is white and his cousin is black. This fuels many arguments and ends up in an eventual temporary kidnap. The problem is still not solved in the last scene, but everyone seems to be happy and both Jimmy and Augustus are competitive but nice at the same time, which leads to a bumpy, but good ending.

All in all Danger Zone was a very intriguing that kept me wanting to read more and think about the book even when I wasn't reading it. This book is great for sports fans, thriller fans, or anyone else who likes to read. I would recommend it to anyone.

Danger Zone
The novel, Danger Zone, by David Klass, is a story about a high school basketball player named Jimmy Doyle. During this novel, Jimmy has to learn how to fight against racism and hate.

There were several things that I liked about this novel. The first thing that interested me was that Jimmy Doyle played basketball. Jimmy describes one of his games when he says, " Time after time when I was double- and triple- teamed I fed the ball to an open team-mate, but for the most part they missed wide-open shots" (Pg. 2). The second thing that I liked about the book was how he had to choose between playing basketball and be accepted by other white people. The second this that I liked about the book was how Jimmy had to choose between playing basketball and be accepted by other white people. The third thing I liked about the novel was how the author had a lot of different settings. The reason I liked that was because it made the book so much more interesting.

The theme in Danger Zone is about how much hate and how there is racism. Do I agree to this, yes because when Jimmy's team goes to different country's people in the stands kept booing at the color people on the team. The way this relates to me and my life is that people call other people ADD and LD. The way the author is trying to say about racism is that white people didn't like black people and when the Jimmy's team came to Italy the people didn't like it because there were black people on it.

I would recommend Danger Zone to high schoolboys because I think they would be most interested in this book. The reason is that this book deals with a lot of things that boys have to go through in basketball and other people.

Danger Zone was excellent.
I thought the book title went well with the book. The danger stood for the player's lives because in Danger Zone the character's lives are in danger. The zone stood for when the main character, Jimmy Doyle, and a supporting character, Augustus LeMay, were on fire during the last game. This basically means they made every shot they put up. Firstly, the book kept me on my toes. During the games the U.S. team played the author would write everything in detail. It was like every shot and every basket was another point for the good guys. That was one thing I like when an author rights in great detail. Secondly, all the characters came to life. It was like when the reader read the book the characters came out of the book and were performing the scene right from the book in front of the reader's eyes. Every new chapter brought another piece of the puzzle to the puzzle. Thirdly, I thought the book was just great. It had everything in a book that I qualify for a great time. One main quality that was good was that the plot was different. It had a twist of solving the conflict. Also it threw in some other little problems to take the players off their game. I thought that was perfect because it made the characters come over something that was troubling them. For one of the characters, Jimmy, he had to overcome the fear of his father that haunted him. That was smart on the author's part. In conclusion, I would recommend this book almost to everybody. I would definitely recommend this book to sports fans. I wouldn't recommend this book to people who despise sports. Lastly, Danger Zone was excellent.

Brief Summary and Teaching Review
Liz Wheaton, a high school sophomore from New Jersey, has been given a chance that young women only dream about. After acting in a small, independent film, she is discovered and asked to move to Hollywood to star in an upcoming movie. After long talks with her friends and boyfriend, Eric, and long walks with her parents, Liz decides to go for it. After all, she could make more money in one summer than her parents could in an entire year. Upon her arrival in California, she meets her gorgeous co-star, Tommy Fletcher, who not only showers her with compliments, but also tries to convince her that she is made for Hollywood. After attending glamorous star-studded parties, spending numerous hours at the beach, and falling for Tommy, Liz begins to think she does belong in Hollywood. However, after an unexpected event, Liz is forced to question her morals and future life as a Hollywood actress. She slowly discovers that the Hollywood lifestyle is a façade and that people can't change and they shouldn't be made to try. Upon this realization, Liz decides to turn down fame and bright lights for the comfort of her New Jersey life. This is an exciting story about a young woman's desire to experience the unfamiliar lifestyle of a Hollywood actress, while teaching the reader about working though difficult decisions. This book would hold the interest of students in 7th and 8th grade. Teachers and parents could use this book to promote the study of geography, problem solving, theater, positive communication, and social relationships.

So perfect!!!

Blue Butterfly
A Review By Caitlin

John is a senior in high school. Who is always running when he not he's in school. When he is running through the near by forest he falls in a covered up ditch and lands on a huge bush full of butterflies that he has been trying to find and examine for a long time. When he finally realizes that they aren't the one he thought they were he captures one the next day and takes it to his science teacher to look at. When they both can't identify it then his teacher finally calls up her friend to look at it. When he can't find out what it is then he takes it back to his lab and when they find out that it was an unidentified species it get's printed in the paper and john is famous.

I really didn't like this book because when I looked at the cover I thought that it might be about something at least scary. But then when I started to read it I found out that it was about a stupid butterfly. I also looked on the back to see if I could find out what the book was about and it starts to tell you that someone was following the main character. Also I don't like how the author totally tried to make you feel like this was going to be a murder type book but no it wasn't it was about a butterfly.

I wouldn't make any one read this book because I really thought that it sucked. But if you like boring books about animals this would be your book

California Blue
This book is about a boy named John Rodgers who runs track and has a relationship with his father while having a crush on his biology teacher, Ms. Merril. Johns father works at the logging mill and doesnt have the time or patience to deal with John. Also,John loves catching butterflies around the logging mill and around the tons of sequia trees near the mill. One day, John finds an unusual blue butterfly and he discovers that it is a rare unknown he discovers that it is a rare unknown butterfly which signifys the discovery of an unknown species. The only problem is ecologists want to shut down the mill in hopes that the butterfly can live peacefully and flourish. I recommend this book to just about any age and it is a great book that is a quick and fun read.

Family Relationships, Ecology and Industry
Young John Rodgers enjoys tramping through the forest of sequoias in his home town, Kiowa. This forest is home to the small town's lumber mill and home to a rare species of butterfly found by John. Should he fight with ecologists to preserve the forest and the rare species or should he stand by his family and the whole town of lumber workers? To further complicate John's decision, his father has leukemia. John and his father have always had a tumultuous relationship but can John turn his back on his family in such dire circumstances? _California Blue_ by David Klass, explores family relationships and ecology versus industry conflicts. The young adult novel has a compelling storyline that can hold an adult's interest as well as youth. This book also gave me a new perspective on ecology issues. At a town meeting, one question asked was, "What does it [the butterfly] do that's important? If it died out, who would miss it? What right does it have to exist?" Being from the city and not a scientist, I guess I never realized that when people are against saving a species, they are fighting for their livelihood, for a way of life they have known for years. Is the spotted owl more important than people's lives? This may seem an obvious question to some but _California Blue_ transformed this question to a reality for me. An excellent novel, not just for the young

Breakaway Run
I learned that a person can make friends with anybody, no matter what their races are. I also learned that a person can do almost anything even if he or she (in this case, Tony) is from another country. And another thing that I learned is the importance of continuance. You can solve problem if you make an effort and if you have strong will. Life is not only trouble, and life isn't only comfort, either. Cooperation is the key. People can understand each other even if they are different in language or nationality. You can not do much without help from friends, parents, teachers, and so on. I learned these things from this book. I want to read this book again someday.

worth reading again
I was in 8th grade when I had to read this book, it seemed good but when I started reading it I couldn't put it down. This is one of my favorite books because it has to do with a boy's quest to understand himself and a romance. I would recomend this book to teenagers or anyone for that matter. I have been searching for this book and now have found it, this book is really 5 star material!

good book
Was a good book. Gave a good understanding of Ron Woods and the ups and downs he had to deal with his senior year. Was a good read for someone who like reading about how people r able to deal with their problems and how they over come them. Would be a good book for a guy in highschool because im sure they could relate.
A book about a wrestler and when he doesn't pass the drug test the things he has to do to suck up his pride so he able to wrestler against his rival igor.

Wrestling with Honor
I must say that this book is a classic in my mind. I am 22 years old now and I read this book when I was in 8th grade. Since the day I read it in 8th grade I wrote five book reports on it, the last of which I handed in my senior year of high which by that time some of the details of the book had been schewed in my mind, nonetheless a fabulous read. This is coming from a kid who read one book from cover to cover before he was 18 years old, this book was it. Since that time I have read over a hundred books and still think that wrestling with honor is a must read.

A "MUST" for everyone.
I read this book when I was in seventh grade.
Today, at law school, I still remember this as the first book that really interested me.
Wrestling With Honor is one of those books that can be read over and over again just to put a smile on your face; I truly consider this book as one of my greatest hits.
