A great southern voice
This is an incredible book that gets inside the heart and mind of a strong southern woman. Nanci Kincaid took this character and made her real. I've never cried while reading a book, but this one had me choking back the tears. I was lucky enough to hear Nanci Kincaid read from the book and discuss it with an intimate group at Auburn University... and I left uplifted and inspired. This book should put Nanci Kincaid over the top.

Lovely Immersion into the South
A page-turner with wonderful insights about life in the South.

EXCELLENT!
I cannot say enough good things about this book. I couldn't put it down! While reading this book, you come to know Verbena very personally, enabling you to feel her every emotion. This is an incredible story of a very strong woman, which is extremly inspiring!

good book
I think that I would recomend Nanci Kincaid's nove., Crossing Blood to anyone who likes reading or learning about the 60's. I didn't like it as much as I thought I would because I had a different idea of what the book would be about. I imagined it to be more about thewhole civil rights movement, with protests, and Martin Luther King, but it wasn't. It was about a girl who falls in love with a black boy, a neighbor, who at first doesn't really pay any attention to her. Towards the end, he likes her, and they become a couple in the last chapter.

Definitely Worth Your Time
Nancy Kincaid draws you into her novel with vivid passages and dialogue that will have you laughing out loud.

Her main character Lucy embodies all emotions of the 60's south with an understanding wise beyond her years. It takes you from her mothers' idealistic naiveté to her stepfathers' racial undercurrents and her forbidden crush on Skippy the colored boy from next door.

This novel touches on important social issues without being preachy, yet managing to entertain you all the way. Crossing Blood is important reading and if I were a high school teacher it would be required reading.

Crossing Blood
This book is an ideal "read" for the person who loves Southern tales that inspire, reminisce, and entertain. The characters are colorful and realistic, to be sure, but for me the best part of Crossing Blood is the beautiful and unique way that Nanci Kincaid tells her story. As an English teacher who reads all the time, I can confidently place this novel in the top ten of my all-time favorites.

This is a must read if you are close to college football!
I am the wife of a football coach. This book is amazing. Kincaid has scenarios that often happen in college football, but are not discussed. I could not put it down! I kept gasping out loud and reading excerpts to my husband.

I enjoyed this book so much that I wrote Kincaid a long letter about her development of the characters and their lives. She knows football after being married to two high profile head football coaches.

Please get this book. It also makes a wonderful gift for any coaches' or player's wife.

Football - the Southern Religion
What a funny book and what a sad book. There are no bad guys in this book - no male bashing. Everyone's just doing the best they know how. Kincaid clearly knows the life of a football coach and the life his wife must lead. All the women's voices are so powerfully rendered, you will come away with them embedded into your memory as if they were your neighbor, best friend, mother, or rival. Read this book!

True to life
I am the wife of a football coach. This book was the story of MY life! Kincaid has a terrific sense of humor. I have placed it on my book club list so that all of my friends will read it.
