I read this book in one night.
As a student of Eastern Michigan University, along with living 2 blocks away from where John Collins lived, this book was especially interesting. I've often heard stories about this killer and always wanted to learn more. This book was terribly hard to find, although the EMU library has several copies...they are usually all checked out. This book offers a great look at the events that happened here, and it is especially interesting for anyone to read who lives or has lived in this area.

Very engrossing, true-life crime story.
I'm in the middle of my 17th read of this book, having first acquired a copy about 10 years ago. I've lost the jacket cover, and the book itself is a bit dog-eared, but it is so well written, and very hard to put down. I gain more insights each time I read it. It must have been a very frightening time for the residents of Ann Arbor, Michigan. Mr. Keyes ties all of the clues and loose ends together extremely well. I have been trying to find out more about the background of John Collins (the murderer), that would cause him to hate young women so much that he would murder seven of them, but have been unable to find anything. I wonder if he is still in jail, or since released. Mr. Keyes, please write a follow-up!!

It still gives me chills.
I was a student at EMU just a few of years after these murders happened. It was, and still is, truly chilling to read about the murders and the investigation. When I read "The Michigan Murders" for the first time (in hardback) I travelled around Ypsilanti and the surrounding area visiting the various crime scenes. Very, very eerie. I have read many true crime books and Keyes' writing is among the best. As the preceding reviews indicate, this book needs to be reprinted and made available again.

Time has forgotten
A reasonably well-written account of one of the most diasterous nights in Boston's history. One of only two books available on this topic. There are no pictures.

Because there's no competition - it's worthwhile reading
As far as I know, there are only two books on this subject and this is the better one. It's fascinating to learn the changes in medical care, emergency response and building codes that it brought about, but I was hoping for more detailed information on that. Someone could have written it better and more excitingly, but no one did.

Accurate revealing account of history
This is an excellent book. It's just a tiny bit on the dry side, but that's not a criticism. The book sets the scene by creating an excellent picture of life in the early 1940's, and describes the events and people involved in what is certainly the best-known fire disaster in American History. Mr. Keyes certainly did his research well. For those are interested in history, you won't find a better book.
