Our Very Favorite Book - So Much Fun To Read!
Our whole family LOVES Bubba! This is a fantastic, extremely funny twist on the old "Cinderella" tale. The art work is amazing - we delight in the illustrations and the book is just plain fun to read! My daughter adores the fact that Bubba [the "boy" Cinderella in this tale] wants to go to the ball with Miz Lurlene [its a cool change!].

We read this in a Texas drawl [you almost can't help it!] and just have loads of laughs with every re-reading. We originally checked this out of the library on a whim and have since bought our own copy [and will probably be giving copies for birthday presents too!]. This book is money well spent - and one I truly don't mind reading for the 3,000th time!

CinderFella , A MUST READ!
This book was recommended by our Librarian because I was looking for some outstanding illustrated books for my 6 yr. old daughter who is real observant and truly enjoys and appreciates the detailed illustrations in the books she reads. She had not expected a twist on the well known Cinderella tale. What a humorous and enjoyable story to read with illustrations that take you right into the story. This book was not only entertaining but the colorful and humorous illustrations were outstanding! My daughter and I love this book so much that we ordered it for our own library at home.

The most interesting twist to Cinderella that I've ever read
This book was without a doubt one of the most enjoyable books that I have ever had the pleasure of sharing with students and teachers alike. I have used this book in numerous workshops that I have taught and have always found a warm delightful reaction to the reading of this book. Students from ages 6 to 12 absolutely love the text and the illustrations. I'm ready for another fractured fairy tale. Keep 'em coming like this!

Great introduction "set" for a science class.
Believe it or not, I use this book as a read-aloud for my 8th grade (13 year olds!) science class. I read it to them before beginning a unit on weather. Even this age finds it humorous. Add this to your collection!

The cream of the crop
Again terrific illustrations in a children's book. The colors are dynamic and the silliness will grab your attention on every page. The author takes the impossible (only skips a few steps in each process)to make things happen! The ending is a surprise and could only come from Kansas!

Fun and amusing
My four-year-old has requested this for one of his bedtime stories for over one week running. The story itself is a humourous tall tale about a farm in Kansas. The illustrations are hilarious, and the expressions on the characters (including the farm animals) are expressive and funny. A great children's book, but wacky enough to make adults laugh, too.

A vivid book easy for all children to read!
I've never seen my sister so enthralled with one book. She knows that's how cats really act so she can relate to the book. The bright and colorful pictures keep her entertained for hours. It's easy to read and easy to understand. I don't know if she is going to let me return the book to the library before her own book comes in the mail!

Pictures worth 1000 words for a toddler!
Our toddler, who understands about cat scratches firsthand, can relate to the story of the little girl who doesn't know how to become friends with her grandma's cat, and we think it's a great teaching tool--If you pull the cat's tail, this is what happens ... !!!! Best thing about the book is the illustrations. The story is set in a wonderful "grandma's garden". My husband & I love the way the cat is drawn--he's not a cute, cuddly thing, he shows real "cat personality," with very feisty eyes. My daughter looks for "grannie" in every picture--something about her really conveys "grandma" to a small child.

The Christmas Blizzard by Helen Ketteman
This is one of the cuttest stories I have ever read. I used to read this book to my 3-year old class and they always wanted it read again and again. It makes you use your imagination and the illustrations are wonderfully done. Thanks for such a wonderful book.

This Story Will Tear At Your Heart
An exceptional story for 3-8 year-olds. Upon reading it, children will say "Ahh." Adults will say "Wow." Seldom is a writer able to transport the reader so effectively into the story as Helen Ketteman has done. Similar to Allen Say's "Grandfater's Journey", in that the story flows like a magnificent poem, and is embedded with such deep meaning.

"I Remember Papa" is a story set in the 30s or 40s, and centers around Audie, a hard-working farm boy who is saving to buy his very own baseball glove. One day, Audie's father informs him that he is taking Audie on the train to the city, to see a baseball game. Naturally, this is knock-your-socks-off excitement for Auide, as riding the train, and seeing a game, are two very uncommon events in his life.

However the earth shattering moment that'll have you weeping at the end, is the intangible gift that the father gives to his son, which Audie will remember for the rest of his life.

You'll want to buy this and make it a part of your permanent collection, to be passed on for generations to come.

Funny story and even funnier illustrations!
My 4 year old son and I checked this book out at the library and it quickly became a favorite bedtime story. The story is hysterical and gets wilder with every page. Brain Floca's illustrations really make the book. My son loved the picture of the cows rolling down the hill. This book is well worth adding to your child's library.

A beautiful and deeply moving story.
I cannot read this book without crying! It is a touching story of a Mother's love and generosity... and a daughter's sacrifice which is truly rewarded with something that money can't buy. The miracle worked with Mama's hands is breathtaking! Mama's Way will bless you and give you a beautiful tool to reach into your child's heart and talk about things like self-sacrificing love & frugality. The sunny watercolor illustrations will create a picture in your heart that you will never forget.

Shoeshine Whittaker
Published in Ring-bound by Walker & Co (1999)

Good Story, Very Good Illustrations
Similar to Dr. Seuss' "The Sneetches", only instead of removing stars, the main character in this story (Shoeshine Whittaker) starts out by selling shoeshines. Set in the old, wild-west, Shoeshine Whittaker rides his wagon into dirty Mudville and smells opportunity in shining the townspeoples' shoes. But Whittaker finds himself in trouble since the townspeoples' shoes won't stay shiny. He then proceeds to clean the town. But, the townspeople are then upset because the shiny town is hurting their eyes! The clever Whittaker figures his way out of trouble, and leaves with a pot full of money.

Interesting Story for 3-8 year-olds that will leave children amused.

Shoeshine Whittaker is a fun read!
Scott Goto's illustrations caught my eye on this book. I enjoy this artist's engaging, in-your-face perspective.

Mudville is an ideal place for a traveling shoeshiner right? In the beginning, yes! It's when the folks of Mudville take Shoeshine Whittaker's blithe guarantee seriously that the trouble begins. A muddy mob isn't a pretty sight!

Can't say I agree with Shoeshine Whittaker's solution to his problem, still, it's a funny teaching lesson about keeping one's word, being taken literally, doing your job well & earning a righteous living. Should get families talking! For my full review do check out[ my website].

Great story and Great illustrations
My children just loved this book. laughed and laughed. Want me to read it to them every night.

We have all of Helen ketteman's books, and this one is as good as the others.
