Except for the fact that this Discover Canada volume was published in 1992, when the Confederate Bridge was still a pipe dream and source of spirited debate, Deirdre Kessler has written a most informative book about "Prince Edward Island" for young readers. Students who have to research some aspect about PEI for school, whether it is the geography, where the people came from, the island's history, its government and politics, the island's economy, or its arts, crafts and recreation. However, if on the other hand they are interested in finding about about PEI because of a planned trip to the island, there is plenty of tourist information on what on museums, historic sites, landmarks, and other interesting places to visit. All of this is accompanied by excellent color photography of places and sites on the island. The back of the book includes a "Facts at a Glance" section that is also full of information down to a list of premiers and a map of the growing season. The Discover Canada series is excellent and the first place students doing research about a particular Canadian province or territory should turn to for information.
