A compelling, disturbing novel
Kennedy's book is not for cheap thrills. It takes the reader by the throat, takes one deep into a world at once alien and chillingly familiar.

A writer--and Midwestern family man--loses his sister to a satanic cult which has taken over her financial assets and finally her life, and now has designs on his life. As the protagonist goes on a journey to get to the bottom of his sister's tragedy, members of the cult close in on his wife and children. In this novel, Evil lives next door. Yet this book does not exploit violence and gore. As the protagonist confronts the full face of evil, a mythic struggle of light against darkness ensues. Ultimately the tale is one of redemption.

If you want speculative fiction that addresses deep human archetypes and that is written in an intelligent, literary style, read this book.

Masterful suspense coupled with literary insight.
This is a terrific read on so many different levels. A great thriller, filled with terror and the occult as well as some of the finest literary writing you'll ever come across. Perhaps its greatest strength is the mysterious world of magic it explores. If you're looking for an exciting read that will keep you guessing while you reading it and thinking about the characters long after you've finished, this would be a great choice. Kennedy really delivers.

couldn't put it down
I really enjoyed this book, found it very disturbing and uplifting all at the same time. Once I got into it, I couldn't put it down. Read and reread some parts. Going back and forth from Lynch's Book to this book. I'm buying it for my daughter, she will LOVE it

An Outstanding Collection of Short Stories
This is one of the best short story collections you can find today. The writing is profound and meaningful. Highly recommended!

Wise and witty dissection of the human condition
This collection of Kennedy's fiction is as good a collection of short stories as you're likely to find this year. Kennedy's characters have a way of confronting their fears without being fearless, thus rendering them with the greatest sense of humanity. You can absolutely feel them in your life and that is a feat few contemporary authors are able to achieve. There is a resolute wisdom to the people who populate Kennedy's stories, yet they always feel within reach of our own human experience. Kennedy's spot-on wit is apparent in many of these stories as well and after reading a few of them, you know you are in the hands of a writer who knows his craft and his audience, but more importantly, knows his own characters. There have been few collections of short stories that have moved me as much as in "Drive, Dive, Dance & Fight," and I couldn't recommend this collection highly enough.

BRILLIANT BOOK; DO NOT LISTEN TO KIRKUS
I must agree with the other reader who insisted you ignore the Kirkus review. I found this book to be incredibly moving and fascinating in its exploration, not of various conspiracy theories (as the Kirkus reviewer wrongly says), but of the different ways the Kennedy assasination myth affects Americans, even those of us who were not alive when it happened.

Forget the stupid Kirkus review
As far as I'm concerned, who ever wrote the Kirkus review above is even more of a hack than the worst potboiler scribblers, of which Mr. Thomas is definitely not one. Come to think of it, who else but the lowliest hack would review for Kirkus? Forget the dumb, ad hominem Kirkus attack and read the book. It's well worth your time.

Tha American Pageant: to 1877
This is a wonderful book that can be helpful in many class levels of American History. I personally am using this book in my AP US History class. I find that all facts in the text are completely relavent to the topic being discussed. Bailey also has a way of putting in many little important tidbits and anecdotes that are very humorous and pertain to the subject matter. The book's layout is very well organized. This makes it easy to find any information. In the margins Bailey has put in may quotes from famous historical figures. These quotes always pertain the the subject being discussed and are very helpful when writing essays. The book also does a good job of including the inportance of different ethnic groups in the formation of America.

Great teacher source!
This book provides wonderful sources for the middle school classroom. As an 8th grade social studies teacher I would be lost without this book. It provides a great balance for the textbook, and brings history alive for students. Some sources are advanced, but many can be used in an inclusive classroom setting. A perfect choice for any teacher of early American history.

An insightful look at nations and history itself
Expertly translated into English and adapted for an American readership by Thomas L. Kennedy, Confucian Feminist: Memoirs Of Zeng Baosun (1893-1978) is the remarkable autobiographical testimony and memoir of the late Zeng Baosun, a thoughtful and expressive woman who recounts her education abroad, to her survival through two world wars, to her life and exile in Taiwan, and even entails cogent observations on President Nixon's resignation from office. An insightful look at nations and history itself from a personal perspective, Confucian Feminist is a very highly recommended addition to Aisan Studies and Women's Studies reference collections and reading lists.

Strongly recommended for everyone looking for a job today
I strongly recommend this book to everyone looking for any type of job in today's job market. Regardless of your circumstance or situation, this book will grab your attention and introduce you to the concept of the "online resume". The authors do an excellent job of giving the reader strong examples of how more and more companies are using computer technology to screen applicants for available positions by scanning for "keywords" throughout an individual's resume, and why tailoring one's resume' to that technology is crucial for success. Using examples obtained from professional personnel managers and recruiters, the authors convincingly prove their case that an applicant must adapt to the world of jobseeking in the technological resume age and forget about the old resume norms. Writing in plain English, the authors state their case quickly then proceed to likewise prove it. Furthermore, they provide the reader with a cornucopia of resume styles and formats. They even give helpful hints on overcoming past employment difficulties such as prolonged unemployment and how to use existing experience in an unrelated field to one's advantage when looking to change careers. This book will give anyone looking for their first job or looking to change careers a leg up on the competition in today's cutthroat world of job searching.

Glimmer Train features up and coming talented writers, and boy have they have one in Daniel Wallace. What a great writer. The folks at the Train have the ability to spot talent, so look for these authors elsewhere for other good reads. This is the new crop of the biggies. Especially Wallace. A++

The Smell of Truth
This book, although somehwhat cryptically written--in the uncomfortable vernacular of JFK assassination research buffs--nevertheless is in my estimation a valuable addition to JFK assassination research. Anyone who is up on this literature has to have a good "crap detection" system, and this selection seems to have passed the test with flying colors. Since the early 70s, all serious roads to discovering who killed JFK seem to be leading back to tying up the loose ends left by the Jim Garrison New Orleans investigation. And since there were many such loose ends to tie up, doing so is not a small job. Torbitt has hit pay dirt, and at the very least, pushes Garrison's investigation to the next research frontier--if not to the very edge of completely uncovering the assassination plot. Yet, there are questions this research raises itself. For instance, I am not yet convinced of the Nazi connections--even though there is much circumstantial evidence to support Torbitt's point of view. Despite my misgiving, this piece is coherent in the extreme and can stand on its own. We know that when the conspiracy is finally uncovered, the truth will have its own unmistakable context, and this book has the "smell of truth."
