The original "Lo's Diary"
A few years ago an Italian novelist wrote what was supposed to be a companion volume to Nabokov's "Lolita," written from the point of view of Lolita herself. Forget that; Margaret Kennedy did it in the twenties, years before "Lolita" was even written. This tale of a hapless pubescent girl, abandoned by an incompetent parent to the tender mercies of predatory adults who have everything but the child's best interests in mind, is a touching, perceptive and still timely morality tale.

A fascinating book
I discovered it as a child - in a French translation. I loved it at once and for ever, not knowing exactly why. There is something to guess in it - a hidden plot. As a child, you cannot discover the plot. You simply love the book because its inherent strength - the book as a constructed , well designed object.

Later on, I discovered the plot and loved the book even more, gave it to my children to read - which they enjoyed as I did - and I just bought it in English, in its first edition, in its old jacket - thanks, Amazon.

ALL the House Beautiful books are a great resource!!
I own most of the House Beautiful books and I just love them!! This one has so many great ideas for people just moving into a new home and ready to design their own space, or for those just wanting to add to their already stylish surroundings. I have clips marking pages throughout all my books and the clips come off and change pages as time passes. It's amazing that I keep finding new ideas, every time I look at this book! I highly recommend these books to a novice, an expert, or anyone in between for decorating inspiration. Have fun!!

Dr. Kennedy is my pastor. This book was written and is used to teach an understanding of church leadership and authority. It also supports the home group (or C.A.R.E. groups as we call them at the North Church in Carrollton Texas). That acronym stands for Caring and Reaching Everyone. This is a really good book and I highly reccommend it.This is also a required textbook and course given at the North Church.

Troy Chimneys (Virago Modern Classics)
Published in Paperback by Viking Press (1985)
Author: Margaret Kennedy
Amazon base price: $1.98
Used price: $2.40

Average review score:

Troy Chimneys uses innovative form to speak indirectly, but powerfully, about life choices and morality.
This novels combines a diary and letters from two eras in British history to create a novel that captures the changing notion of the individual in the regency period. The main character is caught in an age when "gentleman" is being redefined. The novel explores issues of identity, love, class, morals, and money. It conveys "seize the day" in one of the most compelling, poignant twists of plot that I've read.

The Whiskey Trade of the Northwestern Plains: A Multidisciplinary Study
Published in Hardcover by Peter Lang Publishing (1997)
Author: Margaret Anne Kennedy
Amazon base price: $39.95
Average review score:

Archaeology, documents and oral history are combined
The whiskey trade was a significant, albeit largely illegal commercial enterprise focused on Montana and southern Alberta. It had a major impact on the lives of the Plains Indians, particularly members of the Blackfoot confederacy. Although Dr. Kennedy could have focused on the archaeological studies she has made on this enterprise, she choses instead to try to build a more inclusive picture of industry by bringing in documents and oral history. The history of selling alcohol always brings out interesting characters and questionable ethics. You should read this if you think rum-running began with the prohibition or you are interested in the early commercial and First Nation's history of the west.

internet website reference bible
a good resource to help you narrow down your internew job search effectively

Great Resource Book
As Career Planning Host for bellaonline.com, I was interested to read this book as part of my research for my series on the online job search. What I discovered was that it was not a book to "read" as much as a wonderful resource which would reduce my internet research time by hours!

This is not a book of how to's - it has a few sections discussing career planning and eresumes, but refers you to websites for more information. You can find information on how to write eresumes and submit online on my site, or all over the internet.

What this book DOES have is links - separated by position type, state, even country. The legwork is done for you - and it allows you to target your job search to whatever industry or area you want - look up the lists of links for your target, and submit from there.

I note, however, that because of the dynamics of the internet, that resources like this can never stay current. Admittedly, since publication, some websites have merged or gone, but from my research, the majority of them were current and easy to find.

A valuable resource for targetting your job search.

A great resource!
This is NOT a book on cyber resumes---there are whole tomes devoted to that topic. It IS a comprehensively researched listing of sites from the common to the highly specialized. I use this as a text in my graduate class to train counselors who work in one-stop career centers and in college placement offices. It's a great resource for sites and ideas on how to best use the Internet for finding a job: clear, concise and free of hype. Highly recommended.

I actually kinda liked this one.
Yeah, I still have the same old gripes about Truman's overall writing style (or lack thereof), but they've lessened in intensity now that she's found in Mac Smith a decent sleuth. Too bad I know it won't last. (See my review for Murder in the Pentagon.)

It's fun to compare with current politicians as well!
...

Margaret Truman has woven together her knowledge of Washington
politics and a great mystery in "Murder at the Kennedy Center."
And she sure knows how to interweave a complicated plot. As soon
as Mac agrees to take a ace, he runs into countless problems:
Senator Ewald, it seems, has not be as...
his political supporters might believe; ...Soon a South American dictator and a
conservative evangelist muddy the waters even more.

As Mac delves deeper into the mystery, he learns more about his
friend than perhaps he had wanted to know. In a short period of
time, he has a long list of suspects!

Truman has done an excellent job of creating vivid characters and
developing a plot that will keep you alert. She has also managed
to mirror a number of contemporary politicians and headlines in
this novel; I think you'll have fun deciding who is being
modeled.

Combines murder and political intrique
The description of a Democratic party gala is described with the intimacy of one who has actually attended such an affair. It is for this reason that the reader trusts the author in the other relevant portions of the plotting and structure of this well-told tale of mayhem in our nation's capital. This is a fine addition to the author's stunning series of mystery novels using the backdrop of the great institutions of Washington, D. C.
