This is by far the best Sid Vicious book ever written, and I have read them all. A fast, good read. A great picture on almost every other page, including childhood photos. Also, the best Sex Pistols book is: "12 Days on the Road, the Sex Pistols and America"

I recieved this book from a friend for Christmas...I was so happy to get it I started to pogo about the room. This book is a beautifully worded masterpiece descibing one of the most famous punks in history. From his rise to his fall, his role models to his enemies, this book clearly tells you who Sid Vicious is. It is the best biography of this man I've ever read. You REALLY SHOULD get this book...it rules. No, it more than rules...it's so punk rock that it's off the chart. Another book related to the Sex Pistols that was kick-arse is "12 Days On The Road, The Sex Pistols, and America"--a must read for any fan.

How much more can be said about Sid Vicious, the Sex Pistols, and 70s punk in general? Well, it helps if you've got stories nobody's heard before, and "Sid Vicious: Rock'n'Roll Star" (God, I hope there's some irony intended in that subtitle) has them. I won't reveal them here, but I will say I've been a punk fan for a long time (I'm not telling!) and I learned a lot here--lots of little details really make Sid come alive in a new way. Sure, he was nasty and brutish, and his life was short, but he's still entertaining. There are also fantastic pictures, again, many which I was unfamiliar with. There's a funny one of him in the hospital after the break-up of the Pistols, and lots of good ones before he ever joined the band.

This book covers his whole life--his childhood with his drug-friendly mother, his teen years as an art student (but then, name me one British rock star that DIDN'T go to art school!)--and the hellish descent his life took after January 14, 1978. It's all here--great writing (the bibliography includes "England's Dreaming" and "12 Days on the Road"), hilarious and chilling anecdotes, unparalleled photos, and good research. However, it did leave out a really cool fact--that Sid got his trademark padlock necklace from Chrissie Hynde. But it does reveal that the one Gary Oldman wore in "Sid & Nancy" was, in fact, that very one.

This slim book doesn't look like much at first glance, but appearances deceive. Avoid at all costs, however, the much more hyped "El Sid" by David Dalton--a wretched, exploitative, cheap and poorly written work with no photos and imaginary diary entries from Sid. CRRRAAPPP!

PS: "Sid Vicious: Rock'n'Roll Star" would make an EXCELLENT gift for that bratty 14-year-old nephew of yours who thinks Rancid and Green Day and Blink 182 are "punk rock"--show him the guy who walked it like he talked it, and paid the highest price for it.

This is a MARVELOUS book. Don't be fooled by it's title. This is a masterful work of fantasy literature! It all starts when a small group of children find a small box while on the shores of Greece. Inside the parcel is an eloquent parrot and a sulky spider. The children learn of a mysterious plot in the land of Mythologica where evil cockatrices plan to take control. Along the way, they meet a taslking train, mermaids, griffins, a dragon, and a sea-serpent who wants to be a chef. What's gonna happen next? I just guess you'll have to read it to find out!

The first book my dad ever bought me ( I was seven years old and have read it at least once a year since - and I'm now thirty!) If you want to teach your children how to use their imaginations - get your hands on this book - by hook, by crook or by any means necessary!

A blaze of colour, a masterpiece of imagination and a real bloody shame it's out of print. If ANYONE knows a cartoonist - PLEASE get them to animate this story!

I wish this book was back in print. I am now in my mid thirties and I remember it very fondly. It introduced me to the world of mythology. I would love for my own children to be able to read it so they can be transported to a wonder. Could we not convince someone to republish it?

It is really intresting book. A person who started struggling to live like an ordinary man became a legend of his time in the "Afro-American commuinity". He rejected his slavery name and adopted the unknow letter "X" as a faimly name. For the first time in the human history such a strange event occured, that a leader rejected his name openly. The hero of the "Afor_Americans" was not liked by the white community, because of his extream thoughts of "the Nation of Islam". Anyway this was he who, after knowing the "True Islam", openly rejected his previous beleives and declared that, ISLAM is the only way of all problems, for back and white and all races.

This book is his own side of the story and is among the most readable of autobiographies. I feel it is important to read this book because it concerns the life of someone who undergoes the most extreme of metamorphoses. The manner in which Malcolm X tells his story ensures that the reader gains an uncontaminated impression of his life. One may not agree with all or any of his ideology, but that's to miss the point. Surely it is more important and profitable to endeavour to understand why this highly intelligent individual believed what he believed. Many questions are raised, few have been answered, even today almost 40 years on.

This is a book that will change you,he is a legend that has risen to highest levels,and will be remembered for all time.

It is not the case that everyone should read this book, but everyone MUST read this book. This is a man who dedicated his life to fight the cancer of racism...and it is racism that killed him.

But his light is too bright to diminish, you will get to experience it when you read it...happy reading

I read a review of this book in my local paper, bought the book the same day, and read it cover to cover while my toddler destroyed the house around me...I literally could not put this book down. I was also fortunate enough to hear the author speak about, and read a passage from, Losing Malcolm at my local bookstore. I can say with assurance that the world would be a better place if everyone would read this book!

Losing Malcolm: A Mother's Journey Through Grief is the compelling and candid story of Carol Henderson's traumatic experiences arising from the death of her infant son. Writing with a sometimes painfully honest insight, Henderson chronicles the events that ran her through a gamut of emotions including bewilderment and fear to a bone deep grief to a transforming recovery. Losing Malcom is especially recommended reading for anyone who has ever suffered the devastating loss of a loved one, as well as those that care about them and seek to substantively assist them in dealing with their suffering.

I am the mother of a child with congenital heart disease. I suffered much the same as this author, only my daughter lived. This is a wonderful book & I could relate so much, even given the fact that it was not death I was dealing with. Though I did deal with the "death" of the healthy child I thought I had given birth to. And in her place was my very sick & dying child. This author had to deal with death as a result of heart disease & I am having to deal with life as result of it. Either way it rips at your heart.

I went through a period of depression & anger. Like this author I withdrew from the world. I wanted to hide from everyone, including my closest friends. I wore a mask. I wanted everyone to think I was ok. But really anger was inside me eating at my soul like cancer. I thank Carol Henderson a thousand times for writing this. I AM NOT ALONE!! Buy this book along with a box of tissues. It will make you cry & laugh.( I particularly enjoyed the part describing "an innocent." So true...)

Thank you, thank you, thank you to the authors of "The Late Talker"! This book is a very well written, easy to understand guide for parents who are concerned about their childs speech development. This book offers parents the background, guidance, and support needed to make informed decisions regarding a child's speech development. It addresses issues such as when and how to ask for help for their late talker and included is a complete and informative overview of normal speech development vs.symptoms of speech delay and possible speech disorder. The book also gives advice on how to deal with the frustrations of a speech disordered child as well as the parents' emotional ride through the whole process...something I can relate to as well as many many parents that are going through simular circumstances. Co-author, Lisa Geng, has expressed in this book many of the thoughts and feelings that parents of late talkers have had but have never been able to explain to anyone in words.

As a mother of a late talker diagnosed with severe apraxia and President/Co-Founder of the VOICES Association, I recommend this book wholeheartedly, both as an interesting read and an invaluable resource for parents who are starting their journey towards evaluating, diagnosing and treating their child's [possible] speech disorder. Because of this book, parents will be equipt with the knoweledge to be effective advocates for their late talker.

Late Talker Book Review

I highly recommend this book. It is a must have for any parent or persons who work with children, including child care providers, foster care/adoption agencies. It is an excellent resource and very easy to read, and informative. It also explains the differences and definitions of speech disorders, Individual Education Programs and insurance coverage codes. When you have children you never know what you will get. As a parent of two special needs children, this book also helps you overcome some hurdles that you might have come across. I wouldn't be surprised once more people know about it, that it goes on the best seller list!

This book is full of information if you have a child that may be speech delayed. It is so important to know what to do for a young child that may be delayed. Read this book & get the help these children need early on, don't wait!! I wish this book was out there when I was given the dx of apraxia in 2001 for my child. Or even years ago when I was fighting for help with my child that stuttered. This book will help guide you through all the problems that come up from insurance, school systems to families. Thank you to the authors for all your wonderful work!!

The Ruby princess is a lot like me and I love this book ! I have read seven Jewel kingdom books so far and I love the ruby princess best of all of them! In this story The ruby princess runs away before being crowned the ruby princess and some other girl takes her place! The Emerald princess I like too read her books The Emerald princess plays a trick and The Emerald princess finds a Fariy they are both great! Also the ruby princess has more storys The Ruby princess sees a ghost and The ruby princess and the baby dragon . I love these books and I hope to see the movie one day ! Since I was a child I have always gravitated to books and true stories of animals and their encounters with man. This book is so well written that as a reader I felt I had truly gotten to know Amy. Though this story is not as exciting and eventful as "Modoc," it is better written. I'm going to buy several copies now and get my Christmas shopping out of the way in July!

What can you say about a book that details the love story betwen a man and his elephant? One word: FANTASTIC! I came across this book by sheer accident and only picked it up because of the cute cover photo. Intrigued, I bought it and found it hard to put down. The relationship between Bob and his sometimes feisty but lovable elephant, Amy,was just so sweet and touching, not at all cloying or silly the way it could have been in the hands of a less gifted writer. I really, really enjoyed this book. You can read it in a day or two but the emotions the book stirs up will stay with you for a long,long time. Wherever you are, Bob Norris, thank you for taking care of Amyand giving her such a good life.

Only rarely does a story like this come along, staying with you long after you read the final page. The love that develops between rancher Bob Norris and Amy, the orphaned elephant, is both haunting and beautiful. Even the most cynical will find their jaws dropping at the emotional bond between an animal-loving cowboy and a wild animal.

When Bob adopts Amy, who has been yanked from her African home at a pitifully young age, neither can imagine the closeness they will soon feel toward one another; Amy becomes a member of the family, plain and simple, bringing a joy to Bob's life that is overwhelming. But the most compelling aspect, perhaps, of this book is its honesty: life with Amy is joyous but not always easy. She is, after all, essentially a wild animal, even if she does ride the range with Bob and adopt other farm animals as her own. Bob comes to realize that Amy has needs even his great love cannot provide for her. Bob finds the courage, and loves Amy enough, to give her the life she needs, the life she deserves. But it is not the end of their story, and it is only the beginning of Amy's incredible journey.

I am now ordering a second copy as I have lent the first one so many times I cannot keep track of it. This is a delightful series of essays that makes one laugh out loud and insist on reading the best parts out to friends and family. Having read a great deal of Lawrence Durrell, I was enchanted by his younger brother's irreverent view of the "literary" member of his family. The descriptions of people and animals on Corfu bring tears to the eyes -- tears of laughter and regret that the island life Gerry describes is gone forever.

I REALLY loved this book! It is the story of Gerald Durrell, a 10-year-old boy in Corfu, a beautiful island off of Greece. It is a comic tale of Durrell's family, friends, and, most importantly, animals. I laughed my way through this book at the antics of Roger, the dog, Achilles, the tortoise, Widdle and Puke, the puppies, the Magenpies, a fierce sea gull, pigeons, a gecko, Gerry's hilarious family and friends, and much, much more! Don't waste too much time reading the reviews... get out and read this book!

After reading Gerald Durrell at school (it was probably "Menagerie Manor"), I was put off reading his books for over 10 years. One of my friends recommended this as a wonderfully cute book about how a young boy perceives the world and his eccentric family and after hearing descriptions of Larry, the (then) aspiring novelist, acne-ridden Margo and gun-obsessed Leslie, how could I resist? It is a beautifully written book of short stories chronicling Durrell's magical childhood in Corfu, with a kaleidoscope of characters ranging from the human to the animal, all drawn with great affection. The stories are often hilarious and this is definitely one you will want to read again. And for those who are put off by too many descriptions of animals, the descriptions here aren't too long (and they are described charmingly, with Durrell attributing human characteristics which are very amusing) and most of the book focuses on his family. Sequels are "Birds, Beasts and Relatives" and "Garden of the Gods".

I think that says it all. If you are a chicken at heart, this book is not for you. This books tells it like it is, and that is good. We need to know that African Americans are the kings and queens of this world. That how the white man protrays us, is his distorted view. When you want to be like someone you will many times, mock what that person is or has. Mockery is the greatest form of flattery---I read that somewhere---and it is true. Whites want to be like us so badly, they could taste it. This book tells us, what we need to do to get back in line with how the Great Spirit inteneded for us to be. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

This book should be read by everyone of African descent. Discussed in this book are subjects such as religion, skin color, hair, the need to free your mind, the mysteries of melanin, sports and African Americans, your responsiblity to the future and many many more important topics. At the end of each essay, there are books that Mr. Browder has suggested for further reading. Read and enjoy!

Malcolm X: By Any Means Necessary was about Malcolm X and his struggle to end racism in the United States. Malcolm X was born with the name Malcolm little. Growing up was a hard time for Malcolm, his father was killed when Malcolm was very young, and after that point his family never had enough money. He went to live with his sister when he was a teenager, and after that became a street hustler. He was arrested and was sentenced to ten years in prison; it was there that he learned about the teachings of Islam. When he was released from prison, he began attending meetings of the Nation of Islam, led by Elijah Muhammad. He later helped the Nation of Islam to start many new temples, one of which he was the leader. He began to disagree with Elijah Muhammad on some things. Later he split from the Nation of Islam, and made a pilgrimage to the city of Mecca. After he returned to the United States, he formed a new group called Afro-American Unity. He then began working with groups of all races to achieve equality for African-Americans....I thought that this was a great book, and really enjoyed reading it; it is one of the most interesting books that I have read. I recommend it to anybody who will take the time to read it.
