A fitting culinary tribute to Native American cuisine
Marcia Keegan's Southwest Indian Cookbook wonderfully showcases Pueblo and Navajo recipes enhanced with beautiful photographic images and thematically appropriate quotes. From Potato and Tomato Cream Soup; Skillet Squash; and Taos Rabbit; to Pueblo Venison Stew; Indian Fry Bread; and Navajo Cake, the Southwest Indian Cookbook is a fitting culinary tribute to Native American cuisine and would grace any multicultural kitchen cookbook collection.
My favorite Southwest Indian Cookbook
This my favorite cookbook covering Pueblo and Navaho foods. Not only are the recipies delicious and authentic, but the many photographs of the people and the landscape of the southwest, along with their words, has produced a small but beautiful book that displays the recipies within the context of the land and cultures.

Response by author, Jane Butel
Thank you Dana for your review. I would be curious what recipes you thought had "murky wording" as I always try to be very clear. And, regarding your stating that extra, extra virgin olive oil is not correct, I beg to disagree. In my work with several olive oil producers--the country of Greece and with Spanish olive oil, the notation of more than one extra indicates increasingly higher quality. Over all, it was great seeing you had noted the book, Dana. Best, Jane Butel

Excellent source of inspiration through simple thoughts.
I found this book to be very enlightening and thoroughly inspirational. It's contents, simple thoughts on peace, compassion, and love provide a basis through which daily meditation and and self thought can occur. It's messages of peace to all mankind are an invaluable source of stability in otherwise unstable times. It's messages if taken properly will bring peace out from within to be spread worldwide.

Excellent example of what contemporary Pueblo life is like.
Ms. Keegan does an excellent job of showing the rest of American how one contemporary Pueblo family lives. The photos show how both the everyday, modern lifestyle and the tradition "old ways" fit comfortably together. The Roybal girls' story is told with respect to their family and their culture. As a librarian and as a member of one of the Pueblo tribes of New Mexico, I appreciate being able to find such fine examples of Indians and their lives in modern America. The photos are beautiful and bring to life the world of Sonja and Desiree, as well the Pueblo of San Ildefonso. It is a book I would definitely recommend for anyone interested in learning more about American Indians and our place in contemporary America.

Pueblo People - Ancient Traditions Modern Lives
Marcia Keegan captures the respect, love and compassion that are the foundation of the Pueblo villages. The sense of family and continuity clearly shines through in all of the photographs and writings.
This book is a beautiful piece of art of the traditions, people and villages of the Pueblos. The many photographs are sharp, colorful and soulful. She not only takes wonderful pictures of indivdual Pueblos but terrific shots of the villages and different ceremonies.
The foreword by Regis Pecos has just the right amount of information and heart.
Truly a book to treasure and display!
