A great collection of Fairy Tales and love.
This colection of Fairy tales and magic is great for any reader. I love anything with Scottish heros. The way Lily fights all that she knows for the man she loves. The story of a girl that sees her love in dreams before she sees him in real life. The disbelief of a man turning into belief. The strength of Stuart MacLachlan's love, that he will wait 100s of years and fail time and agian and keep trying to win her. These are true stories of hardships and the loves that keep going.

This is not your typical mystery novel
Elizabeth Peters does a wonderful job of showing off her knowledge of ancient Egypt while writing an amusing mystery novel. This book transcends the mystery genre, expanding into romance and historical fiction. As a student interested in ancient Egypt, I found this book merged fact and fiction exquisitely. Peter's descriptions create wonderful images that help transport the reader to Egypt and the world of the pharaohs. The plot is excellent and I found myself reading this book every free moment I had. The story builds and there is never a dull moment. Not only was it full of historical facts, but also mystery and romance. Although the mystery and romance was a bit predictable, it in no way ruined the story. Every moment was full of intrigue and remarkable dialog reminiscent of Jane Austen. The characters are dynamic. Amelia Peabody is a charming heroine, full of energy and snide wit. The villains are charming as well and you will love to hate them. I highly recommend this novel especial for those interested in learning about ancient Egypt. In short, it is an adventurous treat that is fun and exciting. After reading this book you will want to take a trip to Egypt.

I love Peabody!
I have read this book so many times I've lost count! Elizabeth Peters has now written several books in the Amelia Peabody series, but none I love as well as this one. Amelia is a stong, out-spoken, self-reliant feminist in a era when such behavior was stifled in women. She and her companion, Evelyn Barton-Forbes meet Walter Emerson and his brother Radcliffe, an intelligent but belligerent archeologist who soon realizes he's met his match in Amelia. These are characters I wish I could meet in real life, which is why I continue to revisit them from time to time, both in this book and the sequels. A very fun read with characters that grab you from the get-go! Thank you Ms. Peters, for all the great hours of entertainment you've given me with your books! If you enjoy this book, check out her writings under the name Barbara Michaels. You're in for a treat!

Wonderful, delightful novel !!
This is a wonderful , excellently written novel that begins the Amelia Peabody series. This novel establishes her relationship with Emerson & Evelyn. If you begin to read this you'll have a very hard time putting it down!

I must have given this book, to friends & family, probably 10 times this year alone; and most wind up reading the entire series. My husband just adored the novel (he has written 3 N.Y. Times best selling novels...so he is really PICKY). If you like anything to do with ancient Egypt, Victorian times, murder, mystery & intrigue.......This is your novel!!

I only have two complaints: I wish there was a life-time supply of fresh Amelia Peabody stories available. The other complaint is that there is nothing inside the book on any of the novels that helps create a 'time line' of all the novels in the series. In other words, I read the fifth book first & had no clue as to what was the first book, second book, etc. in the series. I had to go & do a comparison between the dates when they were written and check the story lines to figure this out. Most series list the available novels in a chronological order somewhere in the book.

So...for all future & current lovers of the series, here a list of all her books for the Amelia Peabody series & the Vicky Bliss series:

a terrific basketball book
it is amazing how well written and exciting this book is to read. it is not the usual sports writer type book, but takes you into the personalities of the players, the way the game is played, the anxieties the individuals, professionals all, feel nonetheless. The lakers have won twice, but each time differently and this book brings it all out. there are no dull moments. i would recommend it to both knowledgeable sport fans, novices to basketball, and all who would like a truly insightful look at this sport, this particular team, its great coach, and what turns out to be great individual players playing together as a great team.

Great Book
Elizabeth Kaye's book on the Laker's is great. I am from California and have been a Laker fan for as long as I can remember. I really enjoyed her book and found it to be a great insight to a very complicated and incredible team. I recommend this to basketball and Laker fan's alike. ENJOY!

slam dunk
I loved Ain't No Tomorrow. I found out things I never knew and not only about the Lakers but players like Allen Iverson and Michael Jordan. It's a great book. There's never been any basketball book like it. Don't miss this one.

Ambivalent...
As an African American quilter, I had mixed feelings about this book. While I felt that the quilt projects were beautiful and the book itself interesting, I felt a little cheated when I realized that the authors were not of African heritage themselves. I know that shouldn't make a difference, that Africa was their inspiration and inspiration is neither inclusive nor exclusive, but I was still disappointed. There is a rich African and African American quilting tradition out there. Please look to those books for inspiration as well.

Mary Elizabeth Johnson has given me Africa and the world!!!
Quilt Inspirations from Africa is a fitting tribute to the beautiful tradition of designing and creating the complex yet simple quilt designs of Africa.

The book itself is an incredible design. It warms your hands and delights your eyes as you behold the colors of African sand, sky and clay in the colors used on the cover. The graphics are clear and rich and provide a wonderful level of detail of the designs that are covered.

The use of diagrams and symbols was well executed and I was especially pleased to learn the meaning of the listed Adinkra symbols and their story. They reminded me of the symbols in the book 1000 Symbols ' What shapes mean in art and myth ' written by Rowena and Rupert Shepard.

As Mary has done so ably in past books, she takes us into the lives and communal folkways of the quilters, whose work she is representing to the world. And she goes one important step further ' she gives us the tools and instructions needed to help perpetuate and preserve these traditions by teaching us how to design, layout and stitch them for ourselves.

Great job on an incredible book.

A Terrific Source of Inspiration
This book provides excellent examples of how to adapt images and ideas from other cultures to contemporary, Western objects. The reasarch is highly credible and the applications inspired and easy to follow. It is a must have for anyone who quilts or who is interested in adapting motifs form other cultures and eras to any art form, including beading and other forms of embroidery.
