The definitive novel on the life and character of Elizabeth
After reading Susan Kay's Phantom, which is the most beautiful and moving novel about my favorite character in all of literature, I decided that I loved her eloquent and interesting writing style and the emotion and insight she put into the novel. Therefore, I knew had to find her other novel, Legacy. After many patience weeks of searching and annoying librarians, I had it and in this book I discovered the most human characterization of one of the world's most compelling and intriquing historical figures. Susan Kay captured the life and spirit in Elizabeth Tudor and expressed it as beautifully as she did that of Erik. The lives of Elizabeth, Robin, Cecil, and all the others become real again. Her book inspired me to learn more about these people and this time period, and I have yet to find a more real, compelling, and moving novel about Elizabeth.

Re-reading it is even better!
I recently attended a perfomance of "Mary Stuart" which I thoroughly enjoyed and which reminded me of a book I had read 10 years ago about Elizabeth I. Much to my delight, that book, "Legacy" by Susan Kay, was waiting patiently on my bookshelf to be rediscovered. I just finished reading it again and found it more engaging and entertaining than the first time. The author truly has a gift for making the historical characters of the era into living, breathing individuals whose lives provide a new perspective on the fascinating events of the time. I wish I could find more biographies as alive as this one - history has never been better.

The Best Book on Elizabeth Tudor!

This book is one of those that I never fail to mention when asked "If you were stranded on a desert island and could only have 5 books..." I had read several books about Elizabeth and the Tudors before reading "Legacy", and I've read many since, but I doubt it will ever be topped.

The portrayal of Elizabeth provided by Susan Kay is one of a living, breathing woman with desires, fears and intelligence. After reading this book, you will feel as though you have personally known Elizabeth I and the menagerie of historical figures that shaped the period of time that we now call "Elizabethan".

I read this in one sitting
I first purchased this book about 8 months ago because I am a fan of Cassie Edwards, one of the authors of this book. Susan writes the prologue, a woman is about to give birth to her first child. She loves her child, a product of one night with her boyfriend before he went off to war and was killed. Her parents are disappointed in her, and plan to give her child to another family, but she can't do it. She flees on a cold wet night and has her baby in a strangers home, where her parents locate her. Taking her daughter with her she flees again. She travels for a while then comes across a home and leaves her child on the doorstep with a locket. The first story "The Woman Next Door" is also writen by Susan and chronicles how this little baby was found by Michael, a man who's lost his wife and child and feels empty inside. When he finds the child her turns to his neighbor, Katherine, to help him with the child. This story shows the romance blossom between the two of them and the love for the child. Both women bring love and joy back into his life. The next story in the book follows the mom who gave up her daugher. Cassie Edwards picks up the story and Davinda's struggles to deal with the loss of her daughter. Walking Thunder is the Chief to the Blackfoot people, and takes her in and tries to heal the loss in her heart. She eventually trusts him and they go on to have several children, and they take care of Walking Thunder's nephew Daniel, but she never forgets her first born. This is where Lori Copeland takes over. She writes of Sarah, a piano teacher raised by Michael and Katherine. She takes on a new student Daniel, who wants to learn how to play a song for his "adopted mother's" birthday. They begin to grow feelings for each other, but feel that they have to hide it because he is Indian and she is white. Well, their love wins out and he takes her home to meet his family. Of course mother and daughter reunite, when Daniel recognizes the locket both his wife and his "adopted mother" have. This whole book is just wonderful and I have read it several times, and always in one sitting. The stories come together beautifully and no one author lacks in keeping your attention. I bought this book being a Casey Edwards fan, but I have sinse bought all of Susan's books and are starting in on Lori's. This book is masterfully writen by three amazing authors.

The setting of Journey Home puts you in the days you wished you still lived in. When Jessie's wishes to go west put her in contact with Tony Winchester...you KNOW you're in for a trip with a hunk of a guy. 5 stars is not a high enough score!

I love, love, love this book!!!
Sometimes a book just strikes a cord in you and it's hard to explain why. The story of Bennie and Jon is so sweet yet passionate that I've read it countless times and never tire of it!

Elizabeth Jones is the only daughter of a staunch patriotic family during the early stirrings of the American Revolution. She meets Jon a bumbling, slow-witted Redcoat and she immediately becomes his unofficial protector. What she doesn't know is that Jon is really Jonathan Leighton who is only pretending to be a bumbling fool while he works undercover for the Americans. Elizabeth finds herself falling in love with the simple-minded Jon, a big, gorgeous man who she feels is perfectly suited to her.

Their romance developes and heats at a pace with that of the growing resentment of British interference in colonial life.

I so recommend this book to anyone who wants to read a sweet, passionate love story, with beleivable characters set against the backdrop of a tumultuous time during our history.

A Heartrending, Magical Experience
This book is truly, truly astonishing (I'd give it 10 stars if I could)! I first read it about 11 years ago, and have kept reading it over and over, each time losing myself in this beautifully written tale. People tend to be skeptical of sequels or elaborations of well known legends. Kay's tale of the Phantom's life, however, exceeds Leroux's original Phantom in my opinion.

The writing is exquisite: at times powerful enough to suspend a heartbeat, at times so delicate and poignant it stirs deep and wrenching feelings for the characters that dance alive amongst the pages. Kay traces Erik's thoughts throughout his turbulent life and is able to bring out the beauty that permeates this tortured man's being. I am especially amazed at how Kay crafts her words; an adjective here and there, an isolated sentence -- such little things bring amazing impact. By dividing the story into several parts (written in different characters' perspectives), Kay creates a deep, enriched world where the reader is omniscient and enraptured...

excellent!
A little over a year i went to Toronto and saw the Phantom of the Opera. I was mesmerized. Immediately after that I looked up everything on it. Not ust the romance story but the true story. One day while looking for Phantom books on Amazon.com I came across this. I had already read a few books that were quite horrible-cheap knock-offs hardly resembling the stroy I had grown to love. So....I took a chance on this one. I bought it in my next order. I loved this book. It made me laugh, cry, practically pull out my hair in aggravation sometimes. IT's quite a long book, but i finished it in 2 days. And I have read it several times since then. The way the author portrays Erik is just amazing. The reader doesn't see him as a deformed, obsessed man but as a beautiful, gifted child. This book moves you-seriously. But don't take my word for it, buy it and read it. You won't be diappointed.

A HAUNTING STORY OF DARKNESS AND LOVE . . . . . . . .
"The most exquisite kind of love is the kind you do not admit even to yourself!"

PHANTOM by Susan Kay is an outstanding, powerful read. I can't say enough of this book. I've recently read it AGAIN and had to write a review. It was absolutely outstanding!

This is the story of the Phantom of the Opera but entirely different from Gaston Leroux's classic. This incredible story adds new depth and seering emotion into this well-known story. The Phantom exudes such despair and longing for Christine. He has never known gentleness in his life. Has never known what it is to love. Until that fateful day he hears an angelic voice reaching out to him.

He becomes obsessed with Christine after hearing her sing. The purity of her voice awakens all of his tortured emotions. Utterly mad with wanting her, he devises any and all means necessary to lure her into his world. A world filled with despair, anguish and madness. . .

This story is absolutely haunting. It filled me with such sadness that Erik believed himself so unworthy. He believes that there is no woman who could ever look at him with love especially being so hideously disfigured. Christine offers him salvation and tries to draw him out of his world of madness. Yet, Erik is so unwilling to believe . . .

Grab yourself a copy and be prepared to be swept away. You will savor this powerful story over and over.

A good read!
This was my first book by this author and I wasn't disappointed. I loved the story between Emily and Jake and if you love a good romance that is light, humourous and witty you won't be disappointed in this story.

A Rare Jewel
This is the first time I read one of this author's books and I must say, I was lucky indeed. Its not often that I sing the praises of a romance author and rarer still that I like both the hero and heroine in the story.

The storyline may be a little familiar but the author's take on it is certainly refreshing. What struck me as noteworthy is her quirky sense of humour as it surprised me into laughing out loud more than once. For those who like a good western with lots of laughter and wonderful sensual scenes thrown in, this would be the book to read.

Kudos to Ms. Law on a fine book!

Susan Kay Law does it again!
In this second novel of the Miss Bright series, Susan Kay Law has surpassed herself than she did in Anthea's story! Susan Kay Law should be ranked right up there with Johanna Lindsey and Jude Devereaux.

As I did with Gabriel Jackson in the BAD MAN'S BRIDE, Anthea's story, I fell in love with Jake Sullivan in MARRY ME, Emily's story.

Emily Bright wanting and needing to be independent, tells her sister, Kate, who is arranging affairs after the death of her husband, that she is going to Colorado to see their sister Anthea and her husband, Gabriel. Instead she heads to Montana to claim land for who own.

After losing his first wife, he had abandoned his land claim six months ago. But now he's back, and there is a temptuously beautiful woman in his bed. He tries everything to get her to leave, waiting her out, hoping she'd leave, even offering to buy her piece out just to get her off his land.

In the midst of the arguing over the property, Emily receives a letter from Kate saying that Kate is coming to visit. Emily had written to her and told Kate she had married. Kate wanted to meet the new husband. But what husband? So she goes to Jake and begs him to pretend that they are married just until Kate leaves. He reluctantly agrees to do so, but in the process Jake falls madly in love with her, when he hadn't meant to and wants to make their pretend marriage real.

Susan Kay Law has outdone herself with the Miss Bright books. I love them!

read the books in the correct order
This book is a good one from Susan, but as a new reader of her books it would have been helpful to know that most of her books intertwine. Read this book second, as "Home Fires" is when we first meet Daniel as a boy with his step mom and this book is him as an adult. I read "One Lonely Night" first then "Most Wanted Bachelor" followed by "Home Fires" and I wish I had read them in order. The trilogy is wonderful and I really like Susan's books. This book is wonderfully written and really rings true. It is an age old story of what some women will do for her family, even marry a rich man so that her family will no longer suffer from poverty. Kathryn goes after Daniel for all the wrong reasons, money and revenge for her dad, but does fall in love with him. I must say, Kathryn is a great character, she knew what she wanted and knew what she had to do to get it! It is the age old story of a woman using her "gifts" to snag a man. More power to her. I can't wait till another book comes out. I recommend this book to her fans..but do yourself a favor and read "Home Fires" before this book. The trilogy comes together nicely and you want to read all three in one sitting.

The Most Wanted Bachelor
Excellent book, puts the two characters together quickly but you actually get to see things play out and see the happily ever after!

Wonderful Romance!
Daniel and Kathryn really come to life in this story about a woman who plans to marry for money without telling her future husband that it's his cash she's after and not him. Daniel finds out too late that the "one woman in the world who doesn't even know he's a millionaire" is, in fact, a gold-digger. Of course, since this is Susan Kay Lw, there's a whole lot mor going on in both these characters than originally meets the eye. In my opinion, Ms Law is the best Americana writer today. She writes sexy, heartfelt stories about real people and I can't wait for the next one!
