Fantastic!!
I loved this book! It was filled with a great sense of cosmic irony, and physical detail with an omniscient insight into the thoughts and genuine feelings of the characters. As a faithful fan of "Northern Exposure", this book is very similar in many respects, but it's differences are also what made it one of my instant favorites. At first, I hated some of the characters (their personalities, not the way they were written), and liked others just as if I had known them as people in my own life. As I read, I began to understand them as human beings, and not just as some fictitious characters in a story. Although, I will admit however, that following twelve characters was a little much to follow at times, but now I really can't imagine the story without all of them. I read almost five books a week, and most in this genre are the same old tired, grossly formulaic dramas that become boring before I reach the half-way point. This book kept me interested through the last page, and although I didn't want it to end, I did LOVE the ending! I like to fish, and I my husband and I love to ride our Harleys (especially in the Northwoods), and this book really does accent that unique lifestyle here in Minnesota, and surely elsewhere in the country. The only thing I would say that could be remotely construed as negative is that the language the author uses may not be easily understood by everyone. In short, you need to have a degree of intelligence to understand this book and what it communicates, much moreso than the characters you're reading about. If not, I'm not sure that some may understand, nor appreciate this book as I, and everyone else I've talked to about it has. Overall, this sometimes quirky, sometimes poignant book is simply a great offering of love, remorse, forgiveness, hope, bikers, and fishing from the most beautiful of places; the Minnesota Northwoods.

One of the best!
Lake Desire... a story about a fictional northern Minnesota town and it's simple yet complex inhabitants. The story revolves around the death of the town's most loved and respected citizen, Elle. Elle had the power to see the
good in everyone and everything around her and she was the beacon of light and hope in a sometimes ungrateful world. When she died, it seemed a part of everyone else died too, or so they thought. Throughout the story you begin to see the changes of the other characters as they struggle to overcome their own hurdles in life. Everyone who reads this book will be able to identify with one, if not all of the characters, and will be able to take something away from the story to help them in their own life long after the last page of the book is read. The story and the characters draw you in, making it very difficult to put the book down. It is an amazing story of will, love and hope that is eloquently written. It is thoroughly enjoying to read the book and when you are finished you will be left hoping for more.
