Me Nobody Knows: Children's Voices from the Ghetto

wow
I read the me nobody knows, and performed in the play while i was in college. It inspired me to become a teacher. To listen more to my students. To reflect on how unequal our society is. I grew up in NYC and related to my character. If you ever get the chance, go to lincoln center. they have an original tape of the original play. The songs reflect the true feelings of young children growing up in the city. This will make it well worth the read and the hunt for the book.

INSPIRING
I read this book in the late 1960's and kept it on my bookshelf as a treasured item ever sense, until in 1996 when I lent it to a Sociology Professor and it was stolen -- along with his car. Because this book had such a profound effect on me when I read it, it remand on my bookshelf as a constant reminder of the inequalities of life. The Me nobody Knows was also a tool that motivated me, a young NYC girl living in the same surroundings that these young writes explained in their works, to forge ahead and create a better life for myself. [...] how can [anyone] so naively suggest that these people, of which I am one are "weaker Humans." Do you assume that socioeconomic standing endows one with strength. I find myself surrounded now with people who have been given more opportunities in life afforded to them by money, class and status, and yet many of them dwindel it away by becoming selfish and myoptic in their views of others. Those in unfortunate situations such as poverty do not choose that life and are often swallowed up by it like a quicksand that allows your head to stay afloat but maintains a hold on the rest of you. Another book that follows in this idea of the struggles of children growing up in poverty is Down These Mean Streets by Piri Thomas of which I suggest to readers who found The Me Nobody Knows enlightening.

Inspirational
I read this book when I was in third grade, which was almost 26 years ago. Perhaps other editions were created since the mid seventies, but this book has existed for at least three decades. I will never forget how powerful the message in this book was, and how it taught me at a very young age to be extremely thankfuklfor the many gifts that have been bestowed upon me. It also makes people realize that talent and the expression of such talent is not reserved to just the affluent, but that messages of youth are pretty consistent across social classes. As a teacher, I would love to locate a class set of these books and share it with my 6th graders. Perhaps the influence of such writing will inspire yet another generation to write of "The Me Nobody Knows...."

Bible is not Inerrant
Generally using a question/answer format,Barr shows that the Bible has many contradictions in it. Both testaments frequently have more than one account of an event. For example,"What method was used in loading the animals into Noah's ark?" 2 of every kind Gen 6.19 and by sevens Gen 7. "Who was Christ's father?" gives us 3 Biblical answers: God Matt 1;18;Joseph Matt 13;55; and First begotten of the dead Rev.1:5. Barr cites hundred of examples of contradictions or multiple versions of the incident. Excellent book for people not committed to the inerrancy of the Bible.A real eye-opener to what the KJV actually says.

A MUST BUY for the future Internist
This book is the Bible of Internal Medicine. Anyone considering a career in medicine should have this book in their library. Comprehensive and well written, it is the gold standard of medical textbooks.

Harrison's keeps being an authority in medicine
This book is a medical tradition, and it is as important to doctors as their stethoscope.
It is very complete, there is no doubt about it. Every subject of medicine is covered, and for a reference book is a must-have. It is also written in an easy-to-read way, but some chapters are more difficult to understand than others, and like a good meal, in excess it can get heavy and occasionally become a brick, so slow-reading is advised. Also worth to mention are the atlases, that give a lot of pictographic information.
I would recommend it only as a reference book, because for the USMLE, or as a course textbook, it is impossible to read it all, especially if time is scarce.

Black's Law Dictionary: Definitions of the Terms and Phrases of American and English Jurisprudence, Ancient and Modern

Good for lawyers, not needed for law students
Black's is widely regarded as the ultimate authority for the definition of legal terms. I bought the leather-bound version on the first day of law school, but never used it once. (A law student can get by with a paperback legal dictionary.) However, I HAVE used this book as a practicing attorney. I once used it as authority in a brief, and the judge actually relied on the Black's definition to justify his order in my favor.

A must have for the legal proffesional or law studnet!
Know of of a lawyer (whom does not already have this indespenseable tool) or of a person heading to law school; then you should buy this book for them, i.e., Black's Law Dictionary by Bryan A. Garner (Editor), et al. The reference book starts out with a pronunciation guide; preface (which is very well written indeed); guide to dictionary; list of abbreviations; dictionary; seven appendixes, legal maxims, the constitution of the united states of america, universal declaration human rights; time chart of the united states supreme court; federal circuita map; british regnal years; list of works cited. The price is abit steep ... but it is well worth its price.

A FINE VIROLOGY YARDSTICK
There is hardly any significant fact about viruses that missed-out in this edition of "Fields Virology". Page after page, this sound all-inclusive reference doles out authoritative information on both viruses and viral syndromes. From taxonomy to etiology, metamorphosis to replication; the analyses of this text is grand. The same applies to its attached CD-ROM. Its practical outlook was intended to benefit both microbiologists and pathologists. Bernard Fields and his colleagues made their mark with this book. It is a great effort.
However, most botanist may not be pleased to know that little attention was paid to plant viruses. Again, many potential buyers may be demoralized by the rather high price that this virology-set demands.

Another Bible. Amazing viral world
It covers all fields of virology. Perfect and wonderful ! Easy to understand. I really recommend this book to who is involved in biology

A HIGH QUALITY E-BOOK DENTED BY USE-RESTRICTIONS
HARRISON'S is synonymous with clinical books that worth their weights in gold. This 15th/ed CD-ROM maintained that tradition. It adds the much-needed portability to some 2700-paged heavyweight. However, the air-tight use-restrictions attached to the ...price is simply suffocating. I wish that the publisher had relaxed a bit!
Overall though, there were compensations. The CD contents are superb: far better than what the textbook versions offer. Anyone with interest in medical science should give it a try. It is elaborate and easy to understand. The excellent chapters on pharmacology and infectious diseases are particularly worth mentioning.

It's wonderful book. Keep it up.
I have been reading Harrison's Medicine right from my residency. Its a fabulous book one can refer to as an undergraduate or postgratuate student. However for a practitioner one would prefer to have little more stress on management details. Adding audio to CD of the same book will make it more useful.

i have seen the wind, and it's cold enough for me
this book opens with blackwood's great story: the wendigo. B is the master of the setting, noone can create the background and atmosphere like him. a very well written story from Brennan here. and Meloff's story is also an interesting read. derleth is at his best here. i don''t care that much for the guy, have never considered him to be HPL's great successor or anything, but he knows how to write, and i have always considered his story about Ithaqua to be his best contribution. the rest of the stories are well written. i don't think any of chaosium's anthologies contains of so much good writing than this. but good is not great. and the rest of the stories never turns out to be really good. the suspence killed by irrelevant writing going on for too long, mostly. sad. but the book is still wort reading
