This one is worth it!
I borrowed this book from the library and renewed it so many times, they finally told me I had reached my limit and had to return it. I've been trying to check it out again and it is NEVER there. I miss it, a lot, especially since I am working on my first kaleidoscope quilt (which is also my first quilt ever -- although not my first sewing project, by a long shot) so decided its time to buy my own copy. Would I recommend this to anyone else? ABSOLUTELY. Great concept backed up by clear directions, good photos and good writing -- I like the "Snowflakes" book, too, but am not going to try that until I have done a few Kaleidoscopes.

I Love this book!
I own alot of traditional quilting books but wasn't really satisfied making traditional quilts. When I first saw Paula Nadelstern's quilts I was awestruck. When I saw the book I knew I had to have it and I have not been disapointed. Nadelstern writes clearly and with just the right touch of humor. Her instructions give you exactly the information that you need to know (but assumes that you have made a quilt or two so she doesn't dwell on the basics). The section on choosing fabrics is very thorough although I have found that I've had to alter the way I look at fabrics now since symmetrical fabric motifs are key to the success of kaleidescopes. Naturally, I was also forced (smile) into buying alot of new fabric for my kaleidescopes. By the way, Nadelstern has designed a line of fabric for Bernartex called Symmetry that is perfect for these quilts--
These are not simple quilts - the biggest change is that you let the fabrics choose the shape of the template - but boy is it a rewarding experience. I also own her book Snowflakes & Quilts which takes the kaleidescope a bit further and turns it into a snowflake. I recommend both books very highly.

Can that be fabric?
Ever think that you'd like depart from traditional patchwork and make an art quilt that will make people gasp? Open this book. The quilts photographed in this book are amazing. And the idea seems so simple, once it's broken down for you in painstaking detail. You'll learn about selecting a collection of fabrics for kaleidoscope quilts, and how to look at them and create patterns for your own kaleidoscopes. No two need ever be alike.

OUTRAGEOUS BABY!
I have never had a bartending book that is so well organized and fun and easy to use! I especially love the lamination. Are these guys single? Ryan and Robby, you ROCK!

A wonderful resource
I found this giant little bar tenders guide an easy to navigate book and a must have for bartenders and consumers alike. I have spent years looking high and low for a quick and concise bartenders tool which addresses the high demand and trendy cocktails and now I can say that it has been written. And well written too. The coauthors are no doubt very knowledgeable about their craft. They have written a fun and important cocktail book. The construction and page coating will no doubt make it a standard in the industry for many years. I strongly recommend that every bar in the english speaking world have a copy on hand for employees to reference and several additional copies for customers to order from and purchase to take home! I have enjoyed over thirty years on both sides of the counter. I know that the customer could use this important book as a menu of sorts and by the same token the house could standardize their drinks and presentation by deferring to "Keep it Simple Baby: Guide to Mixology". I look forward to the next book by Misters Jonsson and Waddell or even a television show on the same topic!

A brilliant and inspirational book!
As an experienced quiltmaker with a strong Art background, I am constanly impressed with the talent and creativity of quilters. Ms Masopust is an artist in the truest sense of the work. This book is incredibly inspirational, but is also straightforward enough to be of practical use. I can't wait to start deigning my own landscape quilt. This book gives you the technical information without being prescriptive. a must-have for all creative quilt makers!

Amazing Works of Art
I was absolutely amazed and inspired when I received this book. The quilts are beautiful works of art. After reading the easy to follow instructions, I could not wait to start my own fractured landscape quilt. I was so excited about this beautiful technique that I took the book to my local fabric store and shared it with the sales staff. They were as amazed as I. They were so amazed that they are interested in purchasing this book for themselves and for the store.

Beautiful quilts
This book showcases the superb talent of the author in designing and crafting her unique style of quilt. The techniques will challenge the experienced quilter, but the many finished pieces will be a joy for all. These quilts are based on actual landscape photos from which the basic design is drawn. Geometric patterns are added "fracturing" the image into sections, each of which is pieced with it's own selection of fabrics. The end result is a remarkable play of light & color that gives the impression of looking at a scene through multiple lenses or broken glass. The special techniques used to produce these quilts are well described and illustrated. This is more than a how-to book. The many beautiful quilts done by the author and her students and shown in full color are a great display of the art of the quilt.

Great place to start
This is an excellent book for developers, architects, project managers, and development managers. It clearly explains how to adjust your development practices to achieve reuse at all levels. I found it particularly helpful in diagnosing common management issues that hinder reuse practices. This book has helped me gather the information needed to effectively establish reusability.

Read it, read it, read it!
Don't limit yourself to code reusability. This book goes further. Think about reusability from the beginning, put it into your analysis and design models.

The book talks about an _architecture_ and a _process_ to achieve software reusability. I found the book hard to read. Sometimes I felt they did not "hit-the-ground". My problem? I was thinking in code. Don't let that happen to you.

The authors talk about a complete organized process to achieve reusability. The book is a must if you are thinking in reusability.

Read it!

A comprehensive approach to effective Software Reuse
Having reviewed this book before and after it's publication, I can say without a doubt that this is the best book to date on how to implement a effective, systematic reuse program. The book addresses all aspects of Software Reuse, from organizational factors to implementation technologies. All the authors have experience with implementing reuse programs in the real world, and they speak from experience as well as from expertise. If you are at all interested in Software Reuse, or with improving software development productivity, you need this book.

Magnificent book, text and illustrations
This book is truly beautiful and is an absolute steal at this price. With the extensive notes and background information, I believe that it will appeal more to the birder or person interested in bird art than to the casual coffee-table book collector.

Outstanding
This book is outstanding. Both the sketches and the complete paintings are literally awesome. Many paintings are so apparently "simple" that you are temped to think that they are "easy", but they are not. Many are so delicate to be closer to poetry than to painting. Beautiful. I do hope more of Jonsson's art will be published in the USA.

Chess Training for Budding Champions

Chess training made fun!!!
This book is just what I've been looking for for along time. How do you study your own games? How do you come up with the right move? You know the elements of strategy and tactics but how do you use it in your own games? You'll find suggestions to these and other questions in this book. Based on his own experience IM Hall gives you ways to improve your chess and that from a practical point of view. It sets up suggestions for ways of methological training always keeping in mind that training should be fun!!!

Chess should be fun, as Hall states, and the book is filled with humourious anecdotes from Hall's own games. Like when he opened a game with 1.d4 and suddenly found himself "out of book" when the opponent answered 1...d5.

I recommend this book for everybody who needs an efficient training course to improve and develop their game.

Enthusiastic Discussion of Middlegame and Endgame Strategies
What stands out about this book is the enthusiastic manner in which it is written. The author clearly loves chess and this is reflected in his writings. If you've ever been discouraged by the Informator style reams of variations in most chess books, Hall's emphasis on verbal explanations will be a refreshing change. As for contents, he limits his coverage to several key examples or games per section and then provides a set up essential chess endgame positions. Like Silman's Reassess your Chess, the book also contains suggestions for further reading. While the book may look basic, I doubt many people could complete the 'opening traps without a board' excercises. The variations in the games are quite advanced as well. As for me, I'm over 1900 and found this book helpful and, most importantly, fun. While this probably should not be the only chess book you purchase, I am sure that anyone who repeatedly reads it will become a very strong player (outside of Master standards of course). I also like Nunn's Understanding Chess Move by Move, Crouch's How to Defend in Chess, and the Tactical Targets in Chess Series by Pongo (hard to find).

Very helpful for all fabric work w/ very good illustrations
This book is a very good guide to all sorts of transfer methods on fabric for any kind of fabric work. It is very user friendly because the wording is clear and concise with very good full color examples that go along with the text. Troubleshooting hints are included with each method as well a lot of other useful hints. The examples and pictures of the actual work are very helpful in that they show many different applications of each technique and really help to get you thinking of ways to be able to further play with and modify the methods shown. Also, it is very clearly laid out into categories per chapter that make it very easy to use as a quick reference. A reference chart is included in the book telling the basic overview of each technique with information concerning the permanence of the method, fabric types recommended for each method, as well as many other useful info that really make this book very easy to use and covers the basics of most any kind of transfer method you could need. I originally had to buy this book for a fibers class I was taking but it has been more helpful after the class ended because it really was a very easy to use by being very easy to quickly reference with it's clear layout and detailed description of all of the advantages and disadvantages of each of the methods clearly labeled. It is a very good book and would recommend it to anyone interested in any kind of quilt or fabric work.

Imagery on Fabric
After seeing the demonstration today on the Carol Duval Show on HGTV, I am definitely ordering this book! What intersting ideas for quilting fabric! Loved it!

Fiber Artist's Bible
From high tech computer photo transfer to the ancient art of leaf hammering, this book is a comprehensive presentation of fabric manipulation and imagery. Avoiding the "cutesy" trap of so many crafts books, this volume is sophisticated and will be useful to artists and crafters of many styles and sensibilities.

Imagery on Fabric is smartly organized by method, rather than individual project, allowing for much more creativity from the reader. Each process is thoroughly explained and accompanied by fabulous photos of work by professional fiber artists as well as hobbyists. Laury also includes a useful list of resources for the various products and equipment that she discusses in her book.

When I bought this book I was just fiddling with fabric and art quilts. Laury and her book singlehandedly motivated me to fully embrace fiber arts as an exciting means of artistic expression.
