Best of the "The Art Of" series!
I received this book as a birthday present last month. To say the least, I was overwhelmed with all the artwork in this book. I love it! The artwork and production animation is breathtaking! It's a really awesome book, I'd get it if I were you! You can't go wrong with "The Art of The Lion King"!!!

Wonderful graphics, including ones the public never sees
This book is one of the most exquisite things to come out of The Lion King. The graphics are beautiful. Most of the pictures are ones that are used for the storyboard and layout scenes. I reccommend it to anyone who loves The Lion King, or just Disney in general. Order with confidence - the book is worth much more than its price tag. It is also much more convient than the larger, more expensive version which I believe is no longer being produced.

Great book for animation art lovers.
This book is great if you like to see all the art work that was created during the development of the movie as well as the finished scenes. They show you a lot of the concept art that was used so that you get a sense of how ideas developed and gives you a glimpse behind the scenes. The book is mostly pictures with less explanatory text than you usually see in similar books. So it's mostly a book to look at as opposed to reading. It's great if you enjoy looking at animation art.

Absolutely awesome !
This most excellent book consists of a series of sermons by Dr. Martin Lloyd Jones which were preached in Westminster Chapel, London, during the Autumn of 1963.

Readers of this awesome work cannot fail to be moved by the manner in which this subject is approached. The writer being recognised by many as perhaps one of the greatest preachers of the 20th Century.

The basis of this book is the words written through the Apostle Paul in the New Testament book of Galatians in chapter 6;verse 14;-
"God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ..."

The message of Salvation being expounded through the full gospel message of 'Christ crucified'. A message that will hold you throughout this book.

As I read I can but count it loss that I was never able to hear the learned author preach, especially in these days where the central truth of the Gospel is so often ignored amidst the perilous times now facing the World as outlined in Scripture pertaining to the last days.

One particularly moving aspect of this book is that during the course of these sermons in 1963, US President Kennedy was assassinated.

Clearly shocked and saddened by the tragic death of President Kennedy, the writer mentions his death during his preaching. We are left in no doubt as to the uncertainty of this physical life, it's transiency and our inability to save ourselves.

The meticulous study together with the fervent depth of the message provides a message that is extremely powerful. We are left in no doubt as to the importance of Salvation and it's absolute necessity for us all.

Many references are made, not least the glaring parallel between Christ's sacrifice on the Cross and the Old Testament Passover where the Jewish people were spared whilst the first born of the Egyptians were killed.

The blood of a pure, unblemished lamb having been painted on the posts and lintels of the Israelites' doors causing death to pass over them. The shedding of Jesus Christ's blood on the cross at Calvary being the New Covenant, whereby Jesus Himself is the pure, unblemished Lamb of God which now takes away the sin of the entire World, for those who believe in Him.

If you read just one book apart from the Bible about Jesus and Salvation, let it be this one. Highly, highly recommended.

Thanks for listening.

Giving worries over to God
I read this book when a life threatening illness faced me. Nothing can replace the Bible, but D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones used the Bible, Philippians, in showing me how to place my complete trust in Jehovah God to face any trial. He is by far my favorite read for spiritual application in today's world.

A profound and enlightening focus on Galatians 6:14
Lloyd-Jones, in nine chapters (sermons) on Galatians 6:14, brings to light the central focus of early Christian preaching. He shows how the cross, and it message, has been God's proclamation of deliverance throughout the Scriptures. It is not simply Paul's message, but that of Jesus, all the epistles, and the Old Testament as well. Lloyd-Jones' passion, as well as his precision in analysis, come through wonderfully in these marvelous messages. A must for thorough grounding in the Christian faith and for those who do not yet know the "heart of the gospel."

Ending The Confusion
Lloyd-Jones has beautifully used the Scriptures and history to discern the right way in practicing the gifts of the Spirit. He encourages the use of the gifts as not ceasing with the completed canon of scriptures, gives us a balance between being quick to reject the supernatural ("do not despise prophecy") and our responsibility to be skeptical ("test the spirits"), and gives sound teaching on the gifts of prophecy and tongues, teaching that prophecy, by nature, is infallible and that both prophecy and tongues are not initiated by the "gifted" but rather by the Spirit. This book serves as some of the clearest teaching you will ever read on the topic and is a must for anyone questioning cessation of the gifts as well as confused charismatic souls like me. He also shows the problems with some Charismatic teaching that is still prevalent today. This book helped me in that I knew that much of the charismatic teaching on the gifts I had received growing up did not line up with Scripture but Lloyd-Jones showed what the Scriptures do teach. If you are confused about these things, or just want a greater knowledge of the Bible and the history of the Church, then this book will profit you much. It is worth hunting down as well as its previous companion, "Joy Unspeakable!"

The Most Balanced View of a Difficult Subject
I grew up in the Charismatic movement in many Charismatic churches in different states. When I became a senior in High School I became involved in a Baptist Church (my parents had been raised Baptist) and continued on into college. I have gone from one side of the issue to the other and have never been sure of this subject (cessation of the gifts vs. the gifts for today and the issue of the Baptism of the Holy Spirit and when it occurs). Lloyd-Jones is unbelievable! His exposition and arguments have been used by the Lord (serious illumination) to help me in defining my beliefs and working out my doctrine. Things are more clear than ever now. I find it much easier to discern between the false and true experiences. I have seen and experienced some strange stuff being a charismatic (real and fake--from being "slain in the Spirit" and making up my own "spiritual language or tongue" (these weren't real but people were considering them real and so was I) to a most marvelous and glorious baptism with the Holy Spirit (it was real!)) and now I know it is okay and expected of me to question and "test the spirits" but to still be ready to believe a "suprising work of the Spirit of God" as Edwards put it. Many have criticized this book's theological conclusions and application but they are the most biblically solid. I believe that Lloyd-Jones can't be described as a Pentecostal/Charismatic or just simply an Evangelical (all though I'm sure he'd lean more towards saying he was an evangelical). I think he is truly unique. In this day when the Spirit is being quenched by the unjustifiable doctrine of cessation and the Spirit being discredited because of false experience and chaos within the Charismatic/Pentecostal movement, we need the teaching of this book! Historic, biblical, balanced, uncompromising, and a great understanding of the truth. This man rightly handles the word of truth.

Life in a conifer forest, up close & vivid!
Come into a deep, old northern forest where trees reach for the sky, hundreds of feet high. Where their roots beneath the duff, spread out in vast tendrils seeking food, creating food for voles & mice, who, in turn, are fattened up for the owls hunting for food for their owlets.

Carol Reed-Jones has created a lyrical story of life around an old-growth fir tree, & Christopher Canyon's illustrations are bright, powerful & absorbing.

A keeper, its story is delightful & its images memorable.

Outstanding depiction of the Circle of Life!
"The Tree in the Ancient Forest" depicts the"circle of life" concept in a beautifully presented, easilyread format. The author, Carol Reed-Jones captures the essence of the importance and beauty of an ancient forest, presenting a different element on each page. Christopher Canyon's illustrations offer additional beauty to the ideas penned by the author. A wonderful book for children and adults alike -- a great gift book for the ecologically-minded, nature-lover! Highly recommended!

For those who liked either Witch Week or Charmed Life...
This book describes how Chrestomanci in "Charmed Life" became the wizard he is, for all of the readers who read that book and wondered what happened before.

Christopher Chant, later to be known as Chrestomanci, was born lucky. Instead of the one life that most of us are born with, Christopher Chant was born with nine lives. As if that weren't enough, he also had the ability to travel between worlds and bring things back with him.

This book describes the adventures Christopher has as he travels between worlds and fights a group of smugglers who tricked him into stealing things for them in other worlds. Besides discovering a way to defeat the smugglers, Christopher also has to train for the day that he will become Chrestomanci, the wizard who guards the portals between worlds, since only a wizard of nine lives can hold that position.

Fantastic Young Adult Fantasy
Despite his connections with the world of enchantment, Christopher Chant is more interested in cricket that magic. Blessed, or cursed, with nine lives and the ability to travel to spirit worlds in his dreams, Christopher isn't too thrilled to discover that he is destined to become the next Chrestomanci. Quite content with his dream worlds and performing tasks for his Uncle Ralph, Christopher is horrified when he is made to leave school and friends behind and travel to Chrestomanci Castle. Here he will learn the skills necessary for his future role, a role that Christopher definitely does not want. Soon the future Chrestomanci is battling a group of smugglers attempting to steal from the dream worlds....

"The Lives of Christopher Chant" is young adult fantasy at its best. The plot is magical and will keep you reading right up until the end. A little slow to get going, the action soon picks up and never stops. Anyone who likes adventure or fantasy should love this. I can't wait to read the remaining books in the Chrestomanci series.

A different take on a character
Although Christopher Chant appears in the other books of the Chrestomanci series, this is the deepest look into the character of Christopher, and instead of a breif glimpse, we are given a basis for his actions and his ideas in the preceeding books.

In 'The Lives of Christopher Chant' we start by looking at a different world through the eyes of young Christopher: his strange and distant relationship with his parents, the continual changing of his nursery maids and governesses, and his private trips in his dreams to mysterious places. When his Uncle Ralph appears and treats Christopher differently, more as a capable person than a isolated child, he is ready to idolise him and obey him in any way possible, believing Ralph to be kind, unselfish and caring, when in reality he is quite different. Christopher is asked to go on trips to these other worlds, and does so without question, returning with strange items, not suspecting the trickery behind his actions.

Christopher goes to school, where people begin to suspect about the extrodinary power behind his average facade.

In this book we see aspects of rebellion, friendship, childish hatred, boredom and unhappiness that many children are able to relate to. All this is tied in with adventure, magic, believeable characters and imaginative twists. Another great aspect is the faint idea that not all people classed as 'evil' are so easily catagoried when you compare their actions to the humane areas of their personality.

I loved this story, and felt it to be one of the best books in Diana Wyne Jones's Chrestomanci series. From here you really start to understand the character of Christopher, laying new undercurrents in the other titles. The concepts, language, plot and dimension, as well as the originality, makes it one of the few really brilliant children's books around.

This book was extrodinary, and deserves much more popularity and recognition than it has got.

There are five stars coming from Chrestomanci's magic!
I thorougly enjoyed this book. The two books that are compiled into this volume were written at least twenty years ago and were just published as one this year!!!

A very intriguing story- vocabulary, plot, details... all wonderful aspects of this world-revolving chapter book(s). Many kids will enjoy it, especially young adults, and I have found that some adults find it a thrilling book.

Gwendolyn is a mischievous witch, finds out Cat her younger brother, who is forced to move with her to Chrestomanci castle when they become orphans from a tragic accident. He finds the castle amusing yet odd because there was always a muffled, stuffy feeling from all the protection spells placed upon it. He is quite scared of his sister, who trys to prove a point to Chrestomanci by brewing up mean spells, such as dragging all the trees within 50 acres right up against the walls of the castle. If you read on, you will find that Cat has a very interesting secret and learns HIS weakness and magic and why it is so hard to perform. He is yet to know that he one of the most important people in the magical world.

Christopher is a young boy and finds that he can travel to other worlds in his dreams. But this is no ordinary fantasy land. Oh no, Christopher can bring physical things back to his bed after a journey to "The Place Between"(better known to the adult magicians as "The Edge of the Worlds") and then travels to the other 11 worlds(there are a total of 12 and his life is in the 12th one). He once brought back a beautiful gold bell set that glittered and shone like the sun. He later finds out how terrible and illegal the things he's brought back for his uncle were but he intends to help get rid of his uncle's power and defeat him. Christopher finds he has the same mysterious secret as Cat has in the first book of this truly magnificent volume!!

A MUST READ!!!!!!

The beginning of a great series !
This book is basically 2 books in 1. A great deal if you ask me.

This book (Volume I) contains the first two stories in the Chrestomanci series. What's Chrestomanci? Well, he is the most powerful enchanter in the world who has a very important position. You see, in a world where magic is commonplace, there has to be someone to control it. Otherwise, people with magic would easily take advantage of people who don't have magic. It's the job of the Chrestomanci to make sure magic is not abused.

These stories are just as magical, humurous, and fun to read as the Harry Potter books. Each story unfolds like a mystery, and you just can't put the book down until you finish the book. But unlike the Harry Potter books (which are somewhat formulaic: same characters, same setting, same structure, etc.), each Chrestomanci story is very different. They just all share the same world.

The first story "Charmed Life" is about an orphan boy named Cat. Him and his sister are called to live in the Chrestomanci Castle. Cat cannot do magic, but his ambitious sister is extremely powerful. What's going on?

The second story "The Lives of Christopher Chant" (my favorite) is about a boy who can travel between parallel worlds. I can't say more without spoiling the plot. It's just a brilliant story that builds up to a wonderfully climatic end.

If you like the stories in this book, be sure to check out Volume II, which contains "The Magicians of Caprona" and "Witch Week." There is also a collection of Chrestomanic short stories called "Mixed Magics."

Chrestomanci triumphs!
This book is wonderful! It is basically two books in one, which is great because the two stories go very well together and right after you finish the first, you'll want to start the second.

"Charmed Life" is about a boy called Cat, or more formally Eric, who becomes an orphan when his parents drown in a boat accident. His older sister, Gwendolen, is a witch, and when the two move in with their neighbor, Gwendolen begins to take magic lessons. Cat has no magic at all, and is often pushed out of the spotlight by Gwendolen. Then they go to live at Chrestomanci Castle, home to the great enchanter Chrestomanci. After waging a private war on Chrestomanci, Gwendolen jumps into another world and leaves a double with Cat. Cat and Gwendolen's double have to figure out how to save Chrestomanci and the magical community when Gwendolen and her friends on Coven Street try to take over.

"The Lives of Christopher Chant" is about the present Chrestomanci in Cat's time 25 years earlier. This gives you some background on Chrestomanci and is even better than the first book. Christopher Chant is a spirit traveler who can bring things back from his travels and is quite solid on his travels, and this has never happened before. Christopher's Uncle Ralph sees a neat way to exploit him and has him carry back tremendously expensive and rare items such as dragon's blood back from other worlds. It all ends up great.

I would recommend both of these books very highly.

Fast paced read
My husband's family is Air Force oriented with two brothers going through the Air Force Academy, and my husband was in ROTC & CAP, and my daughter was in ROTC, so this murder struck home, especially since I also live in Texas. When the story first broke in the news it was a topic of discussion at home. One cannot help but feel the military mindset contributed greatly to this tragedy. The book was well written with factual information and compelling empathy for all involved. It presented a more complete picture of the facts that could not be found in the press. Three lives were tragically destroyed as a result of the crime. The promising futures of all three were ended when the murder was comitted. This book tells of the sorrow of all involved and the shocking revelation of the murderers impacted a whole town. A must read for true crime aficionados.

This is the best book I have EVER read in my life!
I bought this book at a grocerie store just to have something to do when I was bored. I found myself hooked on the book and I finished it in 3 days which is pretty amazing for me(and my mom!). It had great details and it makes you want to follow up on the trial until is over.

inredible story,incredible book
I*ve been fascinated with this case and watched more of this trial than OJ.I actually feel sorry for Diana and Adrienne*s family. This was the fastest I*ve ever read a book, and I really found out alot about David and Diana .I hope that Mr Meyer does a follow up after the graham trial
