The Bible for Refinishing!
If you have only one piece of furniture you want to work on, you will still find this book invaluable. Everything you need to know about how to repair, when to restore, when to refinish and how to approach it, which tools to use, the dizzying array of products available, and what NOT to do- it's all their and with just a touch of humor to keep the author human.

I have read and reread mine!

Furnitiure Refinishing and Repairing For Dummies
There is just to much information in this book to cover in one review. Chapter highlights include learning from the author's mistakes. What supplies you'll need to accomplish that particular task. Explanation of various stains, finishes, repairing techniques for comtemporary and antique furniture. I read about it on an internet message board and I couldn't have repaired and refinished my forty year old danish modern bauhaus dining table and chairs without it. I even went to a woodworking store and bought a combination tung oil/varnish finish that I just wiped on! No brushes; no spray!!! I saved $1000 by doing it myself!!! It looks so professional!!!!

Excellent resource - all you need to know!
I finally found a source with all the "secrets" to refinishing and restoring for the occasional woodworker. An easy and lighthearted read. A well organized reference. It will be the only refinishing book I will ever need.

Detroit's Eastern Market
Margaret Thomas and Lois Johnson did a splendid job writing "Detroit's Eastern Market". I found the book a delight because I not only shopped there many times but when I was a young I sold produce there grown on my Uncles farm in Northville, MI.. I tried some of the recipes and again I was very impressed. I conceder myself a friend of Margaret and hope to have my copy of her book signed soon and cook a dish from the book for her too.

Detroit's Eastern Market : A Farmers Market Shopping and Cooking Guide
I also as the first reviewer know the authors Lois Johnson and Margaret Thomas. Their approach to writing to me is as fresh as the produce found in the market. I was extremely lucky recently to be part of a tour of the market led by them. Their enthusiasm for the subject is very evident first hand as is their obvious repoire with the traders who generally greet the authors with smiles and hugs. The whole experience I felt was very worthwhile as is reading the book. It has become a stock "Detroit" gift, when I go back to England I take copies for my family and friends who delight in this little piece of Americana.

A great shopping and cooking guide to a Detroit jewel
Sure, Margaret Thomas is a good friend of mine, but I can still manage to be objective. This is a really great book.

Set out as a walking guide to the Market, the text is clear and informative, but maintains a friendly, informal style, just as if you are walking along with the authors in the Market. You will learn about the Market's nearly 200 year history, meet the store owners and get some great recipes while on your "walk". Of course, all the ingredients can be found right in this open air marketplace.

Michigan is a four season state, and this market is open in all seasons, not just summer. A section featuring 8 full menus is organized by seasons-A spring Mediterranean feast features lamb, summer brings fresh salads, autumn has satisfying soups, and a winter highlight is veal scaloppine.

In the index, you will also find individual recipes from appetizers to vegetables (more than 25 unique offerings for vegetables alone) The recipes come from shop owners, employees, farmers, dealers, shoppers and restaurant owners, as well as the authors themselves. Wonderful color photos by Bruce Harkness capture the hustle and bustle of the Eastern Market, and spotlight fresh Michigan Produce.

Like the market itself, this book is "highly useful, convenient and beneficial".

NOT JUST FOR MANAGERS, IT'S A HANDBOOK FOR ALL
They call it "Successful Manager's Handbook". That is correct. But one thing you should know about this beautifully structured text is that it benefits anyone who seeks knowledge from it. Thus, I would not advise you to wait until you become a 'successful manager' before paying attention to it.
Even if you are the most unsuccessful messenger around, the valuable productivity guidelines in this book would go a long way in defining and improving your status. If diligently applied, the principles of this book would enhance your overall potentials: be it official or domestic.
This book is a handbook for all. It is an asset for matured dealings.

I haven't read this book yet
I just picked up a copy in an airport bookstore. I looked at one suggestion, and used it when I got back to the office. My productivity has skyrocketed. I think a lot of the suggestions here are commonsense. But do any of us have enough commonsense?

Put Bruce Lombardo on the shelf next to Edwin Waye Teale..
Put Bruce Lombardo's "Chew Toy of the Gnat Gods" on the shelf right next to Edwin Waye Teale's "seasonal" nature books....but not until after you have had a great time reading this charming account of a year's observation of wildlife on the Southeast coast of the US. It's a must read for those of us who love the Georgia and South Carolina coast...and for those who have yet to discover the delights of this area.

Collaborative Writing: An Annotated Bibliography (Bibliographies and Indexes in Education)
Published in Hardcover by Greenwood Publishing Group (30 July, 1999)
Authors: Bruce W. Speck, Teresa R. Johnson, Catherine P. Dice, and Leon B. Heaton
Amazon base price: $89.95

A heaven-sent book for scholarly research on collaboration.
Peck and his colleagues do a fantastic job of collecting annotations on collaborative writing articles dating from the early 1970s to the mid-1990s. Not only are the articles sorted according to whether they concern academic or workplace writing, but they are also subcategorized into useful headings like theoretical support for collaboration, problems with collaboration, preparing students for collaboration, etc. The annotations are much more substantial than you'll find in the CCCC Bibs, and most of them give me a good idea whether or not the article or book in question will be helpful to my research. I've been working on a dissertation in collaborative writing for the past two years, and have often felt overwhelmed by the sheer amount of literature on the subject; I have two file cabinets full of articles and a shelf full of books, and it's tough to keep track of it all. I wish I had this book back when I started the project! Although I winced a little at the hefty hardcover price, in the three days I've owned this book it's already saved me hours of time. I recommend it heartily to all compositionists who want a concise and nearly-comprehensive reference for collaborative writing research over the past 25 years.

Another "must buy" for the Indy Racing League fan !
The 1998 Indy Review is a nice follow-up to the 1997 version. This book contains photos, highlights and statistics to every race in the 1998 IRL season. I felt the statistics sections were not as complete as the 1997 version, but it was not enough to take away a star. Another great book for Indy fans !

Kept me interested throughout the entire story!
I had to read this book as an English assignment and to tell you the truth I thought it was going to suck. But, when I read the first paragraph, I had the sudden feeling that this book was going to be different. I took it home and read and read. I couldn't seem to put it down. I immediately fell in love with Sib and the way she looked at things in her life. She has alot of character and looks at the world the same way an intelligent 16 year old does (trust me I know this since I too am 16). She reminded me of myself in a way. I loved this book and would recommend it to anyone. I am even planning on reading it again. It was great!

Real touching story!
I thought it was one of the greatest story I've ever read.Although I don't play cello myself, I play a string instrument and was delighted at sib's personality.

What a wonderful book!
Midnight Hour Encores is one of those rare books that can keep the reader captivated for hours on end. I have read this book 4 times, and each time it holds a new excitment and discovery. Being a young female violinist that most people regard as a very unusual musician I really came to an understanding with the sarcastic Sibilance. I would recommend this book to anyone, not just young adults.

P.S. My mother read this book and instantly fell in love

Looking to spark your reluctant reader?
This book inspired a love of reading in my second grader. She ranked reading right up there with going to the dentist (no offense), until she got her hands on this book. The short, captivating stories seemed to fascinate her, and she begged me to order the rest of the series. I hope Bruce Lansky keeps up the good work!

Yeah!!!
This book was SO COOL!!! My favorite story was either The Fairy Godmother's Assistant, For Love of Sunny, The Royal Joust, orLian and the Unicorn. But ALL of the stories were awsome; I loved them all! Keep writing/editing, Bruce Lansky!!!

GIRLS TO THE RESCUE-TALES OF CLEVER, COURAGEOUS GIRLS FROM A
GIRL POWER! THIS IS A GREAT BOOK FOR ALL GIRLS! I AM A SECOND GRADER AND I THINK THIS IS THE COOLEST BOOK. ALL THE GIRL CHARACTERS ARE SMART, FUNNY , COURAGEOUS AND KNOW HOW TO THINK AND SOLVE PROBLEMS! I HAVE FOUND A LOT OF HEROES IN THIS BOOK!

Beautiful and useful
If you are used to books with line drawing of leaves that make it impossible to use as a reference, then you will love this book. It is a great study as well as a beauty. If you only have one book on the Oaks of California, this should be it. If you have many books on Oaks, this is still going to be one of the most used. Useful and beautiful!

If you love California's oaks...
this is a magnificent book. I just cannot get over the glory of the native oaks and this book captures that glory well. It covers all native species with a nice amount of detail. The photographs are beautiful. What I actually found the most intriguing was the great history the authors provide on the oaks, and the incredible ecosystem that depends on their existence. The book even provides information on parks and drives statewide where mature native oaks can be visited. I have had this book for many months now and it is one I continually pick up again and again. It inspired me to plant several native oaks at home and take inpeccable care of the one large oak (treasure) that came as an added bonus to a beautiful old home.

A nice book
I bought this book, on sale no less, at the Hearst Castle gift shop. I find it to be well written and informative with many pleasing pictures of California's native oaks. For any Californian interested in the natural sciences, this book deserves a place on your bookshelf between Lanner's "Conifers of Califonia" and Dave Arora's "Mushrooms Demystified".
