The Best of All
Trudy has done something with her book "100 Days of School" that I haven't seen for a while. She has created a color book, a counting book, a math book, a rhyming book, and, of course, a fun book all in one. That takes talent, and a lot of it, to combine these four types of books without making the work so busy that the child loses interest. Also, the book is all about school and even teaches math etc., but guess what? The reader doesn't even become aware that he/she's being taught. That's the true art of children's writing.

Beth Griffis Johnson does wonderfully with the illustrations. She has given the book a zesty, almost celebration look. And there's plenty to look at after the text has been read. I think this book could be a favorite for your children. I bought it for my future grandchildren . . . whenever that's going to be...

Spectacular Book!
A delightful book that combines rhyming, counting, color and fun. My 5 year old wanted to read it over and over and over. He learned the words quickly and enjoyed the playfulness of the book.

highly recommended.

The humorous text and illustrations will delight all
This crazy, delightful book truly captures the fun of the 100 Days of School Celebration. My children and I both enjoyed all of the silly rhymes and wonderful illustrations.

Missing Link
Beth and her editor managed to touch me by writting this book in a style of "this-is-how-it-FEELS-inside-my-thoughts". It is a pleasant, enjoyable, BUT (more importantly) an informative read for anyone who may be needing help with feeling their previous attempts at meditating were missing something. This book provides the "something".

A Remarkable Journey
In her book, First You Sigh, Beth Johnson embraces and teaches a practical approach to toning in meditation. Her eagerness and passion illuminate the pages as she shares her experience and knowledge that guide you to an inner realm where you come face to face with your soul-self. As you apply her technique, you feel the vibration swell up inside you until it touches everything. You will enjoy the ease and organization of her step by step instruction. It is like having a teacher right in the room with you. If you have asked for the teacher, she has come.

Clarity, Peace and Fun -- all in 1 place!
I have been practicing meditation for about 3 years now. And, this book really helped to clarify things -- bringing it all together in real-life applications -- for me. My spiritual path has been greatly expanded through this book, and my meditations will never be the same. The connectedness and peace I now achieve through my meditations are far beyond anything I have experienced before.

And, it did so in a very Joyous, passionate, gentle way. A very easy, friendly read that has added a great deal to my life. Thank You Beth Johnson for sharing!

A great motivator
The real life stories in this book all deal with the adversities of everyday life, growing up, going to school, being a parent etc. It also shows how everyday people have jumped the high burdles in life that cripple many of us. For that reason these people are heroes. They are not celebrities or anyone you will read about in magazines or newspapers. They are just "normal people." But they've done extraordinary things.

An added bonus with this book is that it is real easy reading. The stories are at most 5 pages long per person. The writing style is simple, to the point but never losing it's spirituality. The editorial doesn't even try to glamourize the people mentioned. It simply shows that life is hard - but the will of the human spirit is even harder.

This book is an excellent motivator! As corny as this may sound, it makes you say to yourself the words, "I can." It makes you realize that we all have the potential to be heroes to ourselves and to people around us.

Great little pick-me-ups!
Received this book at a baby shower and am re-reading it following the birth of my second baby. The messages are inspiring and remind me that others have been there before me, and that I am not alone in my feelings and experiences. A great gift for any new (or repeat!!!) mom.

The perfect gift for every new mother.
I bought this book after the birth of my first child and read it again after the birth of my second. The brief passages and words of wisdom were easy to read and comforting. I was often only awake enough to read a few pages at a time, but loved every word of them.

This book will help any new mother know that she is not alone with the issues and feeling she is facing. It made me laugh out loud and cry while reading it-no matter where I was.

As a result, I have bought this book for every new mother I know. It is a book that you just want to share with a new mother because you know it will provide her with support and comfort in the wee hours of the morning or late at night.

If you are a new mother, or know of a new mother or new-mother-to-be, this is the perfect book!

A wonderful gift!!
I was given this book as a gift when my daughter was 3 months old. It was the best post partum gift I received! The daily readings help you to keep things in perspective and renew your spirit. I have bought this for two of my friends who recently gave birth. It is a must have for any new first-time Mom!

Creative Things for Versatile ShortBread
This is another of those gems of a little one-subject cookbook. Jhonson does great job with history, techniques and recipe collection for this sumptuous little bread.

From sweet type most of us have come to love with coffee, tea or just cold glass of milk, she adds savory items, i.e. a great recipe with Corn and Pumpkin Seeds or Carmelized Shallots.

There are many here that are simply wundebar, e.g. Meyer Lemon-Macademia or Drambuie-Raisin. If you're a shortbread fancier, this is neat collection to use and inspire one's own creations.

Shortbread magic!
I love this book! The recipes are really easy and turn out fabulous! The layout is clear and original and the drawings are entertaining (there are no pictures). This is really a handy little book that any baker would like, because it is so easy to make variations on these recipes, be it ingredients or just shape and decoration. I tried some of the sweet and some of the savoury shortbreads and all were exellent, they actually disappeared from the counter! The Madras-Coconut Crackers are surprising and the Caramelized Shallot Shortbread is a real treat. My favourites are the Green Tea Shortbreads, because I love green tea and I like their not being too sweet, but really crunchy, because of the rice flour.
This book is definitely worth its price! Buy it, you'll love it!

A delicious book!!
I have been making shortbread for years, mostly for dessert. But the savory shortbread recipes are terrific and were made as gifts for Christmas and got raves.

Good enough for a beginner
This book is good enough when one takes it for what it is,that is a selection of dishes served in trattorias around Italy aiming at the casual reader or even the tourist that wants to know what will find there, or recreate some of the dishes he enjoyed while he was there. It will also appeal to the person that doesn't mind dishing out cash for that odd recipe that he might have never seen before. It is definetely not for the serious or experienced cook that wants to jump deep into Italian cuisine, but that is not why the book was written.
On the contents themselves, the book is divided into appetisers, first courses, main courses, side dishes and desserts. The recipies are good and the author does not take irritating shortcuts, ie no canned sauces ,and the pasta is handmade.
Beautiful photographs throughout and simple instructions make this a very pleasant read.Four stars though for the afore mentioned and because for a book called trattoria not enough information is given about trattorias and their functions(some other books make you think you are there).

The Author Knows Her Stuff
An excellent choice for a gift book for those who love authentic Italian Cooking, or even better for yourself. You would have to do months and months of research to gain the knowledge contained in this book. The pictures will make your mouth water, and the instructions will easliy guide you as you learn the secrets of the Tratorria. I highly recommend it. Purchase and enjoy this book, and maybe, if you're lucky, Mary Beth will send you her secret recipe for Lasagna.

Yukon Wild: The Adventures of Four Women Who Paddled 2,000 Miles Through America's Last Frontier
Published in Paperback by Berkshire House Pub (1984)
Author: Beth Johnson

Inspiring women conquer the Yukon river
I lived in the Yukon in the eighties and have just gotten around to reading Yukon Wild. I found it to be a very good read. The historical facts that Beth included were right on the mark and helps the reader get a feel for the communities that these women were visiting in.These women should be commended for such an undertaking. Beth never understated the relationship problems encountered and quite clearly showed the love for life that they all shared.I know what the Yukon and Alaska was like in the eighties - these gals had guts!!!

Beautifully Written, Thoughtful and Very Funny
Fueled by a passion for canoeing and the great outdoors Beth Johnson and three female friends paddled 2,000 miles on the Yukon River through Canada's Yukon Territory, across the breath of Alaska, to the Bering Sea. "Yukon Wild" Beth's book about the all female crew's three-month adventure is beautifully written, thoughtful and very funny. My favorite humorous passages include Beth's description of the campsite David, another Yukon canoeist, selected for the group.
"Garden spot, David," we smirked sarcastically, sinking to mid-shin in the mud at the water's edge and tossing gear up the four-foot cutbank.
"That's nothing," he laughed, "wait till you get up here." The entire bank was like Jello that had just been taken out of the refrigerator. Within minutes, the circle we had tromped around the fire was a slurping mud-hole, seemingly bottomless."
I also laughed out loud at Beth's description of Evelyn's difficulty finding villages along the bank as the mile wide river distorted things. Beth wrote, "Today, she (Evelyn) steered us right into a sandbar-talking all the while about how the big building in the center must be the community hall-before she realized she was looking at three gulls and a swan."
Beth reports the inevitable relationship friction such as the "War of the Zipper" with wisdom and humor.
Her descriptions of the people, terrain and the wildlife are so vivid I felt as if I was with them. Her book also rekindled my own wonderful memories of past canoe-camping adventures.
"Yukon Wild" chronicles the history of the Yukon River and its tributaries such as the 1890s gold rush along the Bonanza and Klondike and the present lives of the people who live along the river.
The Bering Sea and the book's end come way too soon.

Realistic and Laid Back
What does it take to paddle 2,000 miles in unfamiliar territory? I found out by reading this book. It takes a lot of planning and dedication, but one of the most obvious requirements is a good sense of humor. This is obviously vital when you must share a tent with someone for over 70 days. Too many wildnerness books seem to stretch the truth - overestimating the size of the waves and the nature of the real dangers. Yukon Wild has the ring of truth, and it's a a lot of fun to read!
