Great for a Blue Lover's Birthday
I got this for my little boy's 3rd birthday. He loves Blue, and loved this book. We read it every night, and every night he loves to find Blue's clues and show me all the things he remembered about the story.
Great buy!!!

Blue's Big Birthday Party
This was our first "Blues Clues" book. My children love it.. My 4 year old, enjoys searching for the clues with his own handy dandy notebook, while my 1 1/2 year old enjoys identifying the items in the book, such as balloon, spoon, Blue, etc. It is colorful and well detailed.

Fantastic
Children love Blue and Steve! Transfering that enthusiasm to books is a wonderful thing.Keeping our kids excited about reading should be a #1 priority.

Great
Through sets of chapters reverting from "then" to "now", Angela Johnson tells the story of Bobby and his baby Feather. Bobby is 16 and when his girlfriend Nia tells him she's pregnant, his world changes dramatically. Because of the unique way this single story is split into two time periods that meet at the end, you already know the ending (or so you think) but you don't know how events unfolded to get you there.

From sketches of Bobby's life before Feather is born to days when he is bone weary from caring for her in the absence of her mother, this book is excellent. The perspective of a single father raising a child is fascinating.

The best book I have read in a long time!
This is one of the best books I have read in a long time. Angela Johnson is taking the approach that alot of writers of books on this subject dont usually take...the issue of teen pregnancy through the eyes of a teen father. The story is told by sixteen year old Bobby who has taken responsiblity for his newborn daughter. This story is emotionally charged, and by the time I was done I wanted to cry. I loved it! I definitely recommend.

Different point of view
I loved this book, and couldn't put it down! Not only does Angela Johnson have a unique writing style, but also the book shows teenage parenthood from the father's point of view, which is not something commonly found. The books plot is very simple and easy to read. It's definately a book that you can "feel" for the character and how he changes. I highly recommend this book!

Real sounding words and true pictures make this book a find.
Rich in word and imaginary true to many African American families, this book feels like a peek in the window of homes I know. My husband calls our sons "man." "Sister" is what we call the oldest of my sisters. I love watching my boys play in Daddy's shoes. Everything a good children's book on families should be--real sounding words and true pictures that make a connection to someone's life.

Every child will love read this book or being read to
I find this book for all age groups. It makes you feel that you are there watching this child.

A Good Book
I like this book because it is a good story. Ms. Johnson did a nice job. I liked the part where the little girl threw mud on the picket fence. The old lady was mean.

You need to read this book and find out all the stories Mama told.

Tell me a story, Mama
My daughter is still a little too young to read the book, but she LOVES the pictures. This is a very well illustrated book. The story reminds me of times in my childhood when I would ask my mother to tell me stories of when she was little. My nieces and nephew (5 years old and 8 years old), can relate very well to the book. They giggle and laugh at things the main character says, because they can relate to it. This book is a family "keeper!"

Creatively Fantastivically Brilliant!
I was thrilled to see a book offered that prompts children to interpret, understand and then illustrate their interpretations of the lessons taught in this book. As a teacher, I find that most children's books attempt to dazzle the eyes and do not demand a great deal in terms of creativity. In this book, however, the children are given initial prompts to help them shape thier ideas about feelings, but are then given the space to draw and experiment which allows them to reinforce and reinvent further variations on a theme. I would highly recommend this book to anyone wishing a different and more individual approach to learning about feelings...top on my list!

Poetry of the Soul
This is a fantastic book and should be a part of every fourth and fifth grade classroom. The story gives a soul stirring look at life for a minority in the late 1800's in such a way that children can relate to the emotions experienced and actions taken. The story shows how even a child can respond to challenge prejudice and unfair bias in a mature way. It would also be a great introduction to a unit on poetry.

Rain Feet

Puddle fun
A young African American boy puts on his yellow rain slicker and boots and grabs his yellow umbrella to enjoy a spring rain. The simple text expresses the noises of a rainy day and the fun of jumping through puddles. The last page shows the boy standing barefoot in a puddle, arms spread wide, his beautiful eyes full of the joy and wonderment of a young child. The watercolor illustrations capture the essence of a wet day, from the rain pouring out of a downspout to the spray behind a car's tires on a wet street. Watery green and gray are predominant, with splashes of red and pink. The yellow of the boy's rain gear, a fire hydrant, a car, a house, and some dandelions provides a warm contrast, standing out just the way that bright colors do on a rainy day. This book is suitable for babies, who will like the contrasting colors, and for toddlers, who just may be reaching for their boots, hoping for rain.

Growing up with loss
This is such a tender story. At first it seems that the young people in it are pretty settled and happy with life. The father has moved away, but they still have loving adults and good friends. By the end of the book, the full sorrow of their losses are exposed as well as their bravery in facing that which they cannot change. Through pictures of these lives, the reader is given a glimpse of the depths of feeling that can lurk underneath the surface of a normal and carefree-looking child.

Misleading
I bought this book for a Christmas gift for a 2 year old. I am sure he will love it, but I was a bit disappointed. Maybe I am naive, but I thought there was actually felt in the book. It is simply pictures of felt designs. It is a nice sturdy board book with a laminate coating, so I am sure it will last for a long time.

Please don't tell Sean where I hid this book!
My son(17 mos) just loves this book. I have read it about 800times. He loves to look at the shapes and see how they make picturesof things. But I can't say that I was upset when it disappeared behind the changing table. But he just doesn't seem to like any other book as much. Guess I'll have to crawl back there so I can read it for the 801st time...sigh

My kids will SIT !
My kids love this book. It has helped them identify shapes and is so cute. They love it. We also have What Is Square? and What Is Round? which are two really colorful shape books with real photographs. When you aren't really in the mood to read a whole story (as in TOO tired) these kinds of books give you the interaction without all the text to read.

Anyone remember Colorforms (tm)
I avoided this book for some time. I wasn't interested in anything with "stickers" for my young son. (I could just see them being attached to the wood furniture.) At some point we ended up with the book. I was shocked that the "stickers" were actually "colorforms", something that I had been looking for. The "stickers" are made of a thin plastic with the pictures printed on them. The "pages" of the book are made of a stiff board material.

Ironically I was looking for colorforms for my son. When I inquired at the local toy stores they all told me that Colorforms were no longer in production.

good intro. to the planets
This is a simple, not too many details book about the planets. It is a good place to get kids wondering what is up there with a catchy little song from the Steve era of the show.

Blue and Steve's introduction to the solar system
One of the best episode's of the Blue's Clues television series is the one that introduces the solar system. "Well, the sun's a hot star .... Mercury's hot too. Venus is the brightest planet .... etc."

There is not much text here. Basically the song is repeated twice, with text bubbles advising you where to place the many colorful and durable stickers depicting the planets, a shooting star, a rocket and various other solar system-y things.
