It will help you
I highly recomend this book for it has helped me to grow inorder to help myself and deal with my disfunctions. I purchesed the book years ago and had to replace it recently. I first purchased it after reading "Hidden Guilt" which is no longer in print and not as easy to read. I seem to read the book more as a reference on what not to do in my life and how to move on to better things.

Read this book first
An excellent overview of dysfunctional lifestyles and symptoms, easy to read, with useful, well-researched and thought-provoking information. Not a quick-fix self-help book (to which you can become addicted!) but rather one that goes deep down to the roots of your problems, tells you how and why you got stuck and how to go about getting unstuck (a time-consuming process that you shouldn`t attempt on your own). A bit brief, but encourages you to dig deeper...

Achieving Understanding
This incredible book leads those of us in recovery from dysfunction to attempting normalcy. It is written specifically for those who have no idea what normalcy is. Our parents, who loved us, unknowly led us into a life that is lived without the skills to develop intimacy that is necessary for our closest relationships. The Friels explain our losses without blaming anyone and give concrete ways to help adult children recover their true selves. It explains how some of the most severe comditions of mental illness can be related to our dysfuncional families. Most of all it gives us hope for the future and for developing loving relationships.

Adirondacks By The Seasons
Photographer John E. Winkler has produced a fine collection of breathtaking photographs shown in the motif of the four seasons. All portions of the Adirondack wilderness are represented from the High Peaks, to the southern Adirondacks to the Bob Marshall wilderness. Colorful scenes of dramatic peaks, crevassed cliffs and magnificent viewsheds are matched with close-up shots of a variety of flora at its' showiest. One of the best Adirondack photography books available, this is a coffee table book to treasure.

Excellent, exquisite, grand, every New Yorker's pride.
Perused this volume while waiting my husband's turn in the cancer clinic. The wait was too short! Made us wish we were young again and able to climb mountains, to become bushwhackers, to enjoy the incredible beauty of our home state from high places. And, to know more about cameras and photography, how to record a picture worth looking at forever. There's delightful entertainment, too, in the climbers' comments recorded at the top of the mountains they "conquered." And to think a fellow Schenectadian is responsible for the wonderful achievement of this book makes me very proud.

Outstanding Adirondack wilderness photos!
If you have ever hiked the undisturbed wilderness in places where few have ever went, this is book is about those places. Beautiful color photos of some of the most breathtaking vistas on earth from the Adirondack Mountain Range. Among the finest photos are thouse of winter and fall scenes. A great book for those who dream of the mountains.

Fantastic book for recent amputees or their families
I had my left leg amputated in February 2003 after a motorcycle accident. A fellow member of my amputee support group at Harborview hospital in Seattle loaned me this book. Once I read it I realized that if I could work hard and keep my sense of humor that I would be able to deal with my handicap. The book covers the stories of amputees, most of the essays are two to five pages long so it is quick reading. There is a lot of practical information in the essays as the writers describe their problems and successes with various prosthetic technologies. Definitely worth reading if you are an amputee, know one or just want to see what the human spirit can accomplish.

You're not alone, it just feels that way, sometimes...
Great book for amputees as well as their families and friends. The stories are autobiographical and do not portray amputees as either someone to be pitied or as super-humans. True stories which demonstrate the potential of life for all of us. Does not generalize about life after amputation but presents cases of lower and upper extremity amputation, use of super-high-tech prosthetic to no prosthetic.

I was encouraged to learn what can, what DOES happen, by the accounts in the book. We are not alone.

Highly recommended.

A must for any amputee or family members of amputees!
This book will provide any person with a wealth of information regarding what you will face going through the amputation of a limb. I am sure many amputees can relate to at least one of the many illustrations given by the actual amputees themselves. My son is a double leg amputee and I have read this book from cover to cover. The stories have givin me a new perspective into the challenges amputees face everyday. It has helped me to allow him to pursue his own independence and achieve it. Truly inspiritional whether you are an amputee or not.

Cabaret leaves me breathless
This book is absolutely delicious. It is filled with gorgeous, glossy photos of the entire beautiful cast, with lots of attention paid to my favorite, Alan Cumming. This book is a must have for any Cabaret fanatic. Even my roommate, who isn't really a fan, couldn't help but read it cover to cover! This book is breathtaking.

Cabaret
I've seen the movie, the revival, and I remember the original production with Joel Grey from my childhood....but nothing ever beats the book! A complete script, with stage directions and brilliantly captured moments of the play; a thick and hearty slice of life backstage at one of Broadway's most fun and intriguing shows-- get it now!

Wonderful Book for Wonderful Revival
(note to reader below:Jill Haworth was the original Sally Bowles, Alyson Reed was in the first revival and in this revival, the first Sally was Natasha Richardson)

"Cabaret" is by far my favorite musical and I've already seen it three times. This book is wonderful and a great addition to anyone's theater book collection

Practicing Virtues: Improving the quality of life for us all
As a parent and teacher, I was happy to find this book a few years ago. Since then, it has aided me in raising my children and in my work with children at school. The learning expeiences that it has helped to evoke have opened our eyes, improved our lives, and contributed toward helping us to live in a world that is quickly becoming one. I have seen many books on virtue development but this is the best on "how to"; with its practical steps and many relevant examples. I'd like to see a similar guide for classroom teachers.

"A book for everyone!"
"An inspiring, profoundly wise, and easily accessible book, The Family Virtues Guide is really a guidebook for spiritual living for everyone: children and their friends and family, educators, and individuals. It can help ALL of us bring out the best in each other." -- Kathleen Hawkins, author of Spirit Incorporated: How to Follow Your Spiritual Path From 9 to 5

Fantastic book for incorporating a family meeting night
I introduced this book to our family as a "family meeting night" guide. We choose one of the 52 virtues per week, learn all about it, and practice it during the oncoming week. My four children love it, and enjoy pointing out when they see a virtue being used. Kids growing up in the world today need all the help they can get. This is an excellent resource for parents!

Great details
Does the "DNA" analysis of the clothing so you can get a true picture of each garment as it marched through time. Answers questions I have always wondered. Beautiful pictures.

Tons-O-Fun for the Costume Entusiast
This book centers on dress from the 1700's, and its coverage of the period is excellent -- Gorgeous photos of original existing gowns, 18th century tailor's schematics (must be scaled), all kinds of info on how clothing was fashioned, worn, supported by corsets and what would become the 19th-century version of the enormous hoopskirts/crinolines (in the 18th century they were called "panniers" "hoops," or "farthingales", which jutted out to the side, not in a circular or elliptical fashion); the photos alone are great inspiration for the serious vintage fasion reproducer. Also includes lots of info on men's fashions, which are often neglected. I LOVE this book! -- YOURS TRULY, THE COSTUME FREAK FROM BOSTON, MA.

A new classic in costume
Like Janet Arnold's now-classic "Patterns of Fashion" books, this book takes existing museum garments and offers basic scaled patterns for them. It also offers great details about how the garments were original made, tips for using period techniques, and even a few short histories (like the history of pockets). I can't recommend the book highly enough.

The patterns are not, however, for beginning sewers; they must be scaled up to size and then made up in muslin for the best accuracy. However, even beginners can enjoy drooling over these wonderful garments (shown in color and b/w) and learning about period construction.

Inspiration for my Heart
My younger brother, David, just passed away after being in a car accident. I miss him dearly and am finding it so difficult to cope with the fact that his arms will never be around me again.
I read Sandy's book two years ago, and the message of the book has stayed with me. I know that although physically, I cannot touch David, his spirit is all around me and there is still a way to connect. Sandy's book taught me to write, and not to be afraid of what comes out. Through writing, we can recieve powerful messages and through words and thoughts we can learn to heal.

A true story of the Treasure beneath a child's death.
Sandy Goldberg reveals the Treasure beneath loss--the loss of her infant daughter! This treasure is the renewed companionship of the soul, bringing solace, peace, and the awakening of "who you really are". Sandy takes the reader out of the grief that causes bitterness and anger and introduces the healing guidance of the soul which awakens one's true life purpose. The story of Talia's birth and death (before the birth announcements were mailed) is a true story, poignant in its heart-wrenching details, inspiring in its deeper message. Highly recommended for anyone who is going through or has experienced this kind of loss. Thank you, Sandy Goldberg, for your shared wisdom and compassion for all parents who have or will endure such a loss, and for your revelations of the Treasure lying beneath this experience.

A MOST HEALING AND INSPIRATIONAL BOOK
This inspirational woman brings us into a deeply intimate time in her life, when she is dealing with the loss of her child, and shows us how much Faith and our connection with God can guide us through life's most difficult crises. This book re-awakened a connection I had hidden for years and has helped me through many difficult times in my life. A must read for anyone searching for guidance and fulfillment.

The Finger Lakes Revisited

Finger lakes revisited, a locals thoughts
This book does a wonderfull job of displaying many of the sights and hidden treasures of the oft overlooked finger lakes region. Many of the photos include bits of history and indian lore from long ago. The photos do not disappoint, and display the 4 seasons in all their glory. Summer sunsets are mixed with lush green spring scenes, and of course fall is represented with all it's brilliant color. Mr McCarthy's book does not forget winter as do many pictorials of the area. Instead, snowy Christmas scenes are shown along with bleak, cold January images that will have the reader craving a hot bowl of soup and a warm fire. Despite the bleak Upstate winters, Mr McCarthy finds images of beauty in the ice and snow that are hard to forget. The stars of the book... the Finger Lakes are each represented along with a brief description of their size and length. I find this to be a excellent gift to give to visitors or friends who have left the area. I have one one my coffee table and it is the first thing visitors pick up when they come in. Since the Finger Lakes encompass such a large area, many locals will remark that they have never been to the places pictured in the book, though they live only a short drive away. This would make a good gift for those who have the urge to explore the area.

Fond memories spill from every page
I was overwhelmed with joy and melancholy when I cracked open this beautiful book. I am a former resident of Central New York (having lived near Conesus, Otisco and Skaneatles Lakes, and enjyoing trips with my father on Cayuga Lake, where he kept a 24 foot cabin cruiser for 5 years). Not only are the McCarthys skilled photographers, but the area itself is worthy of such a compendium. I particularly appreciated John McCarthy's descriptions of set-ups and time of day for particular shots, as well as the commentary regarding the history of the area. I've ordered several more copies for old friends who love the area as much as I do, and new friends who will once they take a look.

Finger Lakes Resident
This is an absolutely beautiful pictorial book of our region. We gave these as thank you gifts to 16 speakers (10 were from other states) who spoke at a special anniversary conference we held this month. Since this conference is always in December, we wanted to showcase our area in all of the seasons. This book was very well received.
