A Picture is Worth More Than a Thousand Words
We've Come This Far is an insider's inside look at a pillar of African American Christianity, Abyssinian Baptist Church. Bob Gore's skill as a photographer and his commitment to his faith are evident on each page of this lovingly crafted work. In some cultures in the world, taking a photograph of a person is looked at with trepidation because it is believed to be an attempt to capture the subject's soul. And that's exactly what Mr. Gore has done in this book and there is no need for fear. The pictures and accompanying essays capture real life/real time moments in the broad scope of the life and spirit of this historic church.

Superior Work
The rich and vibrant history of Abysinnian Church and the Harlem community is revealed in this work by Bob Gore. The photos are of such superior quality that you can feel the message conveyed in the picture without using the text. With the additon of text there is a wonderful account of the Harlem experience, chock full of information about the history and the individual personal expressions of those who were there when it happened. This photographic journal is vibrant and colorful in both word and image. There are real accounts of Abysinnian Baptist Church's history, including it's spiritual, political, social and economic relationships with the communities that it serves. I urge you to consider this book not just for reading but also as an important addition to your library.

Air War Korea

The First Jet-to-Jet Air War
This fascinating book tells the story of the planes and pilots who fought for air supremacy over Korea from June 1950 through July 1953. The experiences of early jet-to-jet combat as well as close air support and strategic bombing are told in chronological order and illustrated with dozens of B&W as well as color photographs, including many two page spreads.

Some of battle recaps are amazing. Many times 20, 40, 60 or more North Korean/Chinese/Soviet Mig-15s came up to battle F-86s and other "UN" fighters in extended battles over hundreds of square miles. B-29s were attacked by Migs despite jet escorts and there was lots of danger, day and night, from AAA and other ground fire. The USAF was never able to take air supremacy for granted.

There are appendixes listing all the "aces" (the only US Navy ace flew a WWII left over F4U Corsair to shoot down North Korean biplanes!), other notable pilots (future astronauts, etc.) and order of battle listing all USAF, US Navy and British Commonwealth units and the planes they flew. The emphasis is fully on the "UN" side of the war (mostly USAF, but some sections on US Navy and land and carrier based British and Australian units), with virtually no photographs (except gun camera shots) of Communist aircraft and very little about their pilots.

Highly recommended to Korean War and aerial combat buffs, veterans and military historians.

A COMPREHENSIVE STUDY ON THE AIR WAR OVER KOREA
After reading this book, I called Robert Jackson in England to thank him for writing it. It is an outstanding source for air war historians, and Mr. Jackson obviously did his homework! The book is chock full of excellent color photos, and all aspects of the Korean air war are covered, including all NATO forces involved. Appendix III has an excellent listing of the Orders of Battle. Jackson ends the book with some very thought-provoking conclusions. A very well-written, extremely informative book!

Outstanding Review & Photos of Korean Air War
Having served with the 8th FBG, I found this account of "our" activities to not only help me better understand the "big picture", but brought back many memories of the fine people with whom I served. I've read several accounts of the Korean War and none of them gave the various air forces more than superficial mention. The photos were terrific, also! Thanks to the author and to you for making this available.

Our family loves this book and can't wait to see what future adventures are in store for Elim.

Upbeat From the Get-go!
This adorable book gives little tykes a taste of Alaska--and the determination and spunk that characterizes its citizens. Its lively spirited humor and expressively illustrated pictures teach children early on that it pays to follow your dreams and never give up. "Elim" is good material both for reading to small children--and children learning to read, with helpful educational questions and vocabulary list at the end,

Christy Lowry

A great story that encourages children to do their best.
This story is based on a real dog's experience along the Alaskan Iditarod Trail. The illustrations tell the story in great detail. Children particularly enjoy Elim's facial expressions and actions. It is an inspiring story that every child will enjoy.

Out of the ordinary. Pure genius
Provocative, stimulating, and creative. Captures all the senses lifting the intellegence of an individual to the next level. Definitely an original work that deserves attention. Tired of the mainstream? Then get this book. You will not be disappointed.

What wonderful work- no wonder he's an award-winner!
I think that many well-known authors have never written as beautifully as Jackson does in 'Shedding Layers of Ocean.' This title is an extremely well-written and thoughtful work.

Although I am new to this author, I think I will follow his work more closely in the future.

Well done, Jackson!

Purple
Rob Jackson is a major writer of his generation. His work bursts with inventiveness, and this collection exudes of genuine inspiration that is intensely realized. This is an epic of paranoid obsession that swirls the reader headlong to deposit him on a black mudbank of horror.

To Rob Jackson, all I have to say is "Cheers, keep the words flowing!"

One of the best Civil War books ever!
Over several decades I have read thousands of Civil War
books, and this is one of the best ever! It should be required reading for anyone researching and/or writing about any aspect of the Civil War. Mr. Krick's masterful study of the battle makes any further account superfluous; it has
the suspense and excitement of a novel. And, after all, why
bother with fiction when such superb historical books are
available? Excitement and education - what could be better?

Excellent!
I became interested in Cedar Mountain after visiting the battlefield.(very well preserved,BTW.)Returning home I searched for books on the battle.Finding this one I bought it promptly, and have enjoyed it a lot.Krick did an excellent job in providing a rich look at the events.Instead of dry facts,he protrays the story accurately but holds your attention well.I was fully into the battle, almost as if I was there. His writing, along with the very nice maps, will give you the entire story of what Stonewall Jackson called his greatest battle.(And his last as an independent commander.)

This is a brilliant book, the best I've ever read
If you enjoyed James I. Robertson's brilliant biography of Jackson, please read Krick's masterwork. By focusing on this one battle, Krick takes the time to create rich visual images and build the action. He has a suberb way of approaching an exciting scene from one soldeirs perspective, then approaching from someone elses, slowly building a three dimensional image of the impending action. Believe me, this isn't one to miss!

Helpful Tool
Unlike many books in the self help genre this is not touchy feely and doesn't tie itself (and the reader) in knots in an attempt at appearing to be more than it is, rather it gives the reader a venue for self expression and realization. Allowing those who chose to incite change within themselves to do it well and with purpose.

Moments of Wisdom
I have read this book and I believe it has the capacity to change a great deal of lives. It is simple and carries the truth.

Stonewall in the Valley: Thomas J. "Stonewall" Jackson's Shenandoah Valley Campaign Spring 1862

Definitive Account of the Army of the Valley, Summer of '62
Generals such as Patton and Rommel were drawn to study Jackson's Valley Campaign because of the successful use of mobility and concentration of force in local engagements to overcome theater area force inferiority. "Stonewall in the Valley" is an incredible story, fundamental to an understanding of the ACW for amateur and professional historians alike. A testament to Mr. Tanner's zeal for history and accuracy was his willingness to go back and undertake a major revision, twenty years after initial publication of the original classic. It is rare that one can point to a signal source of this type as an undisputed, authoritative classic - Hennessy's "Return to Bull Run" and Coddington's "Gettysburg Campaign" are two other examples. Mr. Tanner's work is a success at every level. Whether discussing national politics or the effect of local roads on soldiers' shoes, the commentary is thoroughly researched and rendered with an understandable authority. He is equally adept at identifying and explaining causes and effects and debunking many of the popular myths that have arisen over the years. This is not another contribution to the plethora of Stonewall legend making compilations - this is a serious historical work which examines exactly what happened, the when and the how, the why and why not. There is a most enlightening addition in this revision which discusses the operational art of war - actions which translate overall theater strategy to local area tactics - in the context of Stonewall's Valley Campaign. Mr. Tanner bucks the trend in giving Joe Johnston some credit and in rendering just criticism of the mighty Stonewall where appropriate (more often and harsher than expected). If only we were so lucky as to have a treatment such as this for every other ACW campaign - we can only hope.

A detailed analysis of Stonewall Jackson's Valley Campaign
Probably the most detailed analysis of Jackson's Valley Campaign I have ever read. Tanner has gone to great length to document every detail of the classic campaign fought in the Shenandoah Valley in 1862. New evidence and extensive analysis are presented in an effort to explain some of the controversies of the campaign. Tanner's conclusions differ in some respects from the traditional explanations of some of Jackson's actions but he backs them up well in light of new evidence. The book will make for rather dry reading for those not interested in military history but for the Civil War buff and Jackson admirer it is the best account I have read of Jackson's career as an independent army commander.
