Tight, Tense, and Compelling.....
"I never put much stock in omens and portents, but that strange August Wednesday had been rife with them, according to Miss Essie, who knew more about such things than I ever would..." It seemed to all start with the van accident, right outside the doors to small, rural Dawkins County hospital. Emergency room physician, Rhea Lynch, couldn't believe the carnage she found inside the van, not all of it caused by the crash. The two mysterious young women had been severly abused and mutilated, and the older of the two begins to display frightening, uncontrollable behavior in the hospital, casting spells, and practicing witchcraft and black magic. Add to that a second dose of the supernatural with the appearance of a charismatic traveling faith healer, complete with miraculous cures, and Rhea finds her entire belief system, long grounded in facts and science, shaken to its very core. As murder and mayhem ensues and the body count rises exponentially, Rhea tries to find the answers to this enigmatic puzzle and make sense of all the bizarre occurrences happening right in her own backyard. And she knows one thing for certain, sleepy Dawkins County will never be quite the same again..... The opening chapter of Gwen Hunter's latest medical thriller is so harrowing and compelling, that once you open Deadly Remedy, be prepared to finish this novel in one sitting. Ms Hunter's well researched, intriguing story line is filled with crisp writing, vivid, riveting scenes and beautifully drawn, memorable characters. But it's her in-depth knowledge about medicine and the ins and outs of the emergency room, and her great attention to detail that adds real credibility to the story and makes this suspenseful thriller a stand-out. This is the third installment of a marvelous series that just gets better with each book, and readers new to Dawkins County, Rhea Lynch and company should start at the beginning with Prescribed Danger and read them all. For those who are already fans, Deadly Remedy is about to take you on a fast paced, twisting, turning, roller-coaster of a ride, you definitely don't want to miss.

Excellent Medical Thriller
This is Gwen Hunter's third book in the series involving Dr. Rhea Lynch, ER doctor in a small hospital in Dawkins County, South Carolina. I enjoyed the two previous novels in this series and I think Deadly Remedy is even better. I continue to be amazed at the precise detail involving the many medical emergencies described by Hunter. In this outing, Rhea gets up close and personal with faith healers and practitioners of black magic. The action never lets up. The characters come to life effortlessly. The dialog absolutely sparkles. And I love Belle and Pup, Rhea's two heroic dogs. All these ingredients make for a fast paced page-turner. Although there are some references to the story lines in the previous novels, I think this book can stand alone. However, I would recommend reading Hunter's earlier books just because they are so very good.

Highly recommended!
Rhea Lynch makes her third outing as a doctor/detective in the best book of the series to date. The small town in which she lives is steeped in both true religion and superstition, which have now mixed with the arrival of a faith healer. Suddenly, Rhea is faced with miracle cures and black magic. One of her patients, a quadraplegic is suddenly able to move, while another young woman in her care determinedly performs deadly rites that wise old Miss Essie informs her are part of black magic.

Faced with curses and murder, Rhea must try to unravel the puzzle before her in time to prevent more deaths. Every belief she has ever held is put to the test, and past romantic entanglements make life at once more difficult and better.

***** With fascinating information and a complex plot, this story weaves its own fast paced spell. Although the medical data is sometimes complex and new readers might find some references oblique, this is still a promising series that will challenge the mind and completely involve the reader. Rhea is an intriguing character that joins the ranks of classic detectives. Highly recommended! *****

HYPNOTIC, MAGNIFICENTLY TOLD TALE!
I could not put this book down. I felt as if I was down there in the bayou and in New Orleans. Ms. Hunter has conveyed a sense of place so elegantly, so eloquently, I was literally there with Bonnibelle every minute. What a wonderful heroine. What fabulous portraits of the other characters - from Perkins to Miss CeCe to Rhames, Michau, Miles, the Grand Dame and Azalea - one and all. Fabulous!

A++
This author, has captured the smells, warmth, and excitement of louisiana. Her descrivitive writings have taken me there, when I don't even need to leave the house. I hope she continues the sequel. When you want to walk into a book I highly suggest this read. Becareful you'll get hungry!

Dark Like the Bayou
The sequal to Gwen Hunter's "Betrayl", which continues the story of the vicious DeLande family. Bonnibelle's character is intriguing and a delight to read. Hard to put down and easy to pick up and read again! Masterful writing from an author who deserves more credit.

exciting
I have read all the Gwen hunter books and loved them all. I actually live in the UK but even without going to New Orleans I feel like I have been there already. Through her descriptions of the food and the scenery I have been taken on a journey. Law of the Wild has continued Gwen hunters story of the Delandes without becoming formulaic or boring. If you havent read itI strongly suggest you do as I could not put it down and cannot wait for the next instalment.

Hypnotic suspense
Wow! You really feel as though you are there. You can hear the sounds of the bayous, feel the humid heat and taste the fear. What a spunky heroine Mara is! She's only 17 but she's tough, determined, self sufficient, yet also insecure and vulnerable. The story was fast paced and riveting. I definitely want to read the sequel!

A Page Turner.....
Dawkins County Emergency Room physician, Rhea Lynch, never expected to find her oldest and dearest friend, Marisa Braswell, near death when she got home from a two week camping trip. The diagnosis, a catastrophic stroke. Talk around the hospital says Marisa is dying. After only a couple of days in the ICU, her husband, Dr Steven Braswell, took her home, and has forbidden any visitors, including friends and family. This course of treatment, or non-treatment makes absolutely no sense, medically, so Rhea sneaks into the Braswell house and conducts her own examination. The results tell her two things...Marisa didn't have a stroke, and whatever happened to her, happened on purpose..... Gwen Hunter's debut thriller is a fast paced, roller coaster ride, with a suspenseful and compelling story line and strong, well drawn characters. Her hospital scenes are intense, vivid and riveting, and her medical knowledge and attention to detail adds real credibility to the story. This is the beginning of a promising new series, and with the few loose ends left hanging, readers will look forward to Ms Hunter's next installment, and Dr Lynch's return.

Excellent medical thriller
After being on vacation for a week, ER Doctor Rhea Lynch returns home to learn her best friend Marisa Braswell suffered a sever stroke. However, instead of being at the hospital, Marisa's husband, Dr. Stephen Braswell, head of ER, has kept her at their home and will not allow any visitors. Rhea cannot fathom why Stephen is keeping his spouse out of the hospital and how such a healthy young woman like Marisa could have suffered such a debilitating illness.

Rhea is unable to ignore her friend's plight. She sneaks into the Braswell home, but what she sees horrifies her as a comatose Marisa drips a strange liquid from her nasal passages. Her quick exam fails to verify Stephen's diagnosis. Later that same day, a patient enters ER with similar if not the identical symptoms as Marisa has. Rhea begins to investigate what is happening to her adopted small South Carolina town though someone will go to any lengths to insure she fails including murder.

DELAYED DIAGNOSIS is an exciting medical thriller that centers on the theme of friendship and how far a person will go in the name of that friendship. The heroine is a person will risk everything for a friend. The intrepid Rhea is a flawed person whose weaknesses turn into strengths. She goes the extra mile to help her best friend over the objection of Marisa's spouse, who is the patient's doctor and RheaĆs boss. Though the reason for the conspiracy seems thin, readers will fully enjoy this action-packed medical drama because Rhea, who tells much of the tale, hooks the audience.

Could not get into this book
I gave up on this one after about 80 pages or so. I didn't care for the main character, and I found this story so boring that it just didn't matter to me what happened at the end. The author also uses a lot of medical terms that I didn't understand. If you're a Robin Cook or Tess Gerritsen fan, then don't bother with this book.

A Worthy Sequel
In this sequel to "Delayed Diagnosis" and the second in a new line of books featuring intrepid ER physician cum sleuth Dr. Rhea Lynch, Hunter hits the mark with this fast-paced and evocative medical thriller. A rash of hate crimes have swept Dawkins County, South Carolina, leaving behind in their wake a strange pneumonia-like virus afflicting people across race and socioeconomic lines..and with a 90% mortality rate.

Rhea stumbles across the epidemiological cause of the disease, but doesn't know how to treat it or how to get rid of it, other than an antibactieral cocktail she and another physician concoct. Rhea contacts Shirley, an English transport who went to med school with Rhea and her best friend Marisa (who returns from rehab very pregnant), who now works at the CDC. Together with Shirl, Rhea determines that the pneumonia is the result of a manmade streptococcus designed to be used in biological warfare. But who's behind it?

It's wonderful to see Rhea again. She's a smart, funny, independent, and educated woman who could be anyone's friend. Returning also are Miss Essie and her niece Arlana, Rhea's housekeeper, albeit in a limited role. Mark and Rhea grow closer, but could a new love for Rhea be on the horizon? Shirl is a fabulous new character, and it looks like, thankfully, she'll be in future books.

The only part of the novel that is a suspension of disbelief are those responsible for infecting the town. Frought with religious fervor and numerous governmental agencies, it's difficult to discern who actually did what and why. This is, however, a definite must-read for fans of Hunter and medical thrillers.

Could this happen in my town?

I like Gwen Hunter's fictional female doctor, Rhea Lynch. I agree with another reviewer that Hunter's books contain graphic medical details, but to write Dr. Rhea's stories any other way would be to take the easy way out.

In this book, Dr. Rhea comes face to face with a fast-acting, virulent, and deadly virus that has her completely stumped. The first victims, an interracial couple, die within hours of being brought into Rhea's small emergency room in Dawkins County, South Carolina.

But, they aren't the only ones to die and before it's all over, Rhea must use every ounce of her impressive medical talent and survival skills to save her town, her staff and herself from the evil that lurks in the shadows.

Hunter keeps getting better. She and Dr. Rhea will make it to all the bestsellers' lists soon.

I'll be reading whatever Hunter writes...she's a keeper....blood, guts and all!

Enjoy!
