Wonderful!
This is an absolute must have if you are looking for a quick explanation of all aspects of ocean life. The authors have done a thorough job of making short, detailed explanations to almost anything you might be looking for. This book is basically a fun to read encyclopedia of marine life.

Good Introductory Text
While not intended primarily as a textbook, I have used SeaLife as the text in my introductory oceanography class for the past two years. The authors present their ideas clearly and the illustrations are well done. An adequate index is furnished.

Best guide for the marine environment!
although not a "complete" guide, a wonderful book for every sea-loving creature! wonderful pictures and informative text for every amateure or pregraduate student

Little Fairies on the Prairie
Talk about lucky! Before she wrote her "little house" books,Laura Ingalls Wilder wrote some wonderful poems about fairies and we are fortunate that Stephen W. Hines compiled them and Richard Hull contributed colorful, detailed illustrations just full of whimsy, magic and fun.
This charming litle volume consists of a short adaptation of an essay on fairies by Wilder, a short bio on Wilder by Hines and five beautifully illustrated fairy poems by Wilder.
Written in 1915 these quaint fairy stories are sure to delight young and old alike as they show us the daily lives and activities of the wee folk. You will see lady bugs and dragon flies, crickets and caterpillars, toads, birds, butterflies and flowers galore, but best of all you will see lots of fairies in flowery long skirts and pinafores sporting colorful wings and huge mischievous eyes. The flowers are right out of a turn of the century cottage garden including poppies, four o'clocks, forget-me-nots, tiger lilies and pinks.
I loved the book for its light-hearted, nostalgic look at Fairyland and for showing me another side to an already beloved writer.

This is a wonderful book about fairy's.
People young and old will like these charming poems. It's wonderfully illustrated and detailed. If you get a chance this would be a great bedtime story kind of thing.

very entertaining
i'm sorry...it's been about 7 years since i read the book...i remember the general plot and the author's unique sense of humor, but little else, aside from the enjoyment. hopefully, this review, along with the above-reviewer's kudos, will entice someone to read this one. i keep very few books, especially fiction, but this one was worth hanging onto. let me put it this way...i don't care much for fiction, let alone british fiction, but this book was great! i recommended it to a non-reader, and he loved it! i had to get rid of a large part of my book collection when i moved cross-country, but i knew i'd read this one again someday. it's a quick read, very captivating...2 nights with the bed lamp on at most.

Another Classic From a Classic Decade!
My goodness...is this book really coming back into print? This is one of the all-time murder mystery classics! I think the only contemporary equivalent of Richard Hull would have to be Tom Sharpe, whose intensely dangerous satires reveal (only at the last minute) that what he's writing about really isn't exaggerated at all in his novels. Take that attitude back to the constraints of 1934, and we have this wonderfully innovative "whodunit." Like my favorite of Agatha Christie's stories, and like the equally unexpected mysteries of Francis Iles (aka Anthony Berkeley), this one stands out in that the perpetrator of the crime turns out to be...oh, excuse me, you're saying you've *never* read this book before? Well, I suggest you take the time *now* to do something about that! More than a little funny, this book is guaranteed to please. Who says people didn't know before what we know today about human nature? Not me!

For the serious student of American Philosophy, this work and the nine others in the series to follow are essential. Each chapter consiste in the inaugural address of a president of The American Philosophical Association, the largest society of philosophers in the world, together with his or her portrait and a biographical sketch. Several addresses appear in this series for the first time; several biographies are unprecedented. On SAD UNDERWEAR
In keeping with the style and humor of her previous works, Judith Viorst's SAD UNDERWEAR offers a unique views of life through revisiting fairy tales with a 90's spin and creating thought-provoking verses that discuss childhood trauma, triumphs, and concerns. Certain poems, such as "Exploring"; "What Dads Do"; "It's a Wonderful World, but They Made a Few Mistakes"; or "See the Jolly Fat Boy," speak volumes to all audiences--young children to young-at-heart adults. Sweet and poignant, the book becomes a good gift for anyone approaching any of life's passages. A good companion piece would be Viorst's IF I WERE IN CHARGE OF THE WORLD AND OTHER WORRIES.

Tesla Coil Builder's Guide to the Colorado Springs Notes of Nikola Tesla
Published in Spiral-bound by Twenty First Century Books (1994)
Author: Richard L. Hull
Amazon base price: $27.50
Average review score:

No-Nonsense explanation of what Tesla really did in CS!
Richard has really outdone himself this time! The guide the the Colorado Springs Notes is a compehensive explanation of the day-to-day happenings is Nikola Tesla's Colorado Springs Laboratory. This book cuts through all the hype and myth and takes a more objective and scientific look. Unlike other books, that claim terrifying lightning discharges along with wireless power and spaceships, Hull's book conveyes the truth. It is all very down to earth and believable, all of the author's statements are based on fact, not wild-eyed speculation. The guide contains a wealth of invaluable information on synergistic coil building techniques which are so many times overlooked or neglected by the hobbyist who wants a fool proof "recipe". This guide is written with a very human touch, so don't about being bored by too much dry, raw data. Even if you don't own the notes, this book is a must have for any coiler or Teslaphile alike. This book is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

A good theory book but meaningless for engineers
It is a good DB theory book for professors and students. It covers most topics in data models and database theories. But it is not suitable to be a textbook, and should be avoided by IT engineers in industry. The book is hard to read. There are too many maths elements in it. Compared with the discontinued book by Ullman, its English is not good, maybe because the first author is French.

my favourite book about database theory
Whenever I need to check or find some result about database theory,
I look into Foundations of Databases, and I find the answer, stated
and explained in a clear and understandable way. This book
contains all you need about foundations of databases, and even more ...

My second database Book
Here is the book to grow up from intro. It is definetely harder to read than Date, but - as it is always with math - the extra effort is rewarding.

There are some omissions, for example, 5NF is not covered. (While lower normal forms are more important from practical side, the higher ones are more interesting from math perspective). On the positive note, coverage of Extended Relational Model is much more open-minded as compared to C.Date, for example (BTW, Abiteboul's paper on object views is among the most cited).

Butch and Spike
I thought this book was okay. It was way better compared to My Side of the Mountain, one of my required and very boring summer reading books. The book is about the two Couture cousins, Butch and Spike, who are the two "main enemies" of Jasper Gordan, a straight A student in Theodore Elvin Elementary School. Jasper sits in between them, acting as a "role model" for them and his class. During the story, a couple of crazy things occured, like when the two cousins went skinny dipping on a field trip when Mrs. McNulty(AKA Mrs. McNutt)lost her patience with them.
I thought the book was sort of funny because you can tell that Butch is the one who gets hurt a lot and Donny is the great baseball player. I think some people should read this book.

Butch and Spike
I thought this book was excellent because Butch and Spike are around the ages that I am and feel the same way about school that I feel sometimes. They dont like new assignments or text books, they hate almost every part of school. Though they dreamed about their sixth grade year! The cootches, right center of attention, spike and butch question the others of where the popularity has revealed itself and they go on from there

Learning from Butch and Spike
Butch and Spike are truly lovable characters. They also teach us (and hopefully our teachers) that intelligence is more complicated than we might have thought. Gauthier's book, one of the few books that has made me laugh out loud, is great for illustrating the way students learn in a variety of ways using multiple intelligences. While Jasper teaches Butch and Spike that some discipline is required to achieve one's goals, the moral of the story is that creativity is a remarkable gift--a gift that Gauthier possesses, too.
