We discovered Hughes while living "down under" where she is better known thanks to Australia's strong ties to Britain. Also highly recommend her poems such as found in _The Nursery Collection_. Wonderful, rich illustrations; warm, loving families.

Shirley Hughes's books are generally terrific. This is a great way to buy, since a collection is cheaper than the individual books, though the price is quite high in US $, being a British edition.

A trip back into the Old West. Learning how to cook like the chuck wagon cooks did, whether it's Dutch oven, Pit cooking, or cooking by campfire...it's all there! Cooking for one or two up to a thousand, whatever you wish! Great ideas about how things have been done in the past in handling food, even alternative refrigeration without electricity in the hot Arizona summer days. Great variety of recipes and good 'how to's' along with great humor and lore about the Old West.

The book has some wonderful recipes for outdoor grub. Some are old and some don't use traditional units of measure. They are all great dishes, though. Stella also intersperses stories about camp cooks she has known, how they did things, what was important to them, etc. These stories are a great documentation of the western cowboy life. The section on sourdough is especially good.
