DYNAMIC AND BEAUTIFUL.
The End Is Near brings together interesting essays and most unsual artists. The quality of the images and paintings displayed in this book make it a MUST for any art collector and connoisseur of fine books. Essayists in this book bring new meaning to the art depicted. Visionary art and Outsider Art come together in this book beautifully. WELL DONE...a "must have".

An inspiring, spiritually fulfilling feast for the senses.
"The End is Near" makes you yearn for Divine inspiration regardless of its source or circumstance. The artwork is stunning, the artist bios are awe-inspiring and the essays are thought provoking, empowering and spiritually comforting. This is an amazing gift to give to others...but do yourself a favor and give it to yourself first. And then go out and pick up a paintbrush, a pencil, or a piece of coal and create. This book will make you realize that the best art you ever see could be just below the surface of your own consciousness.

Disturbing and thought-provoking
By showing the amazing collection of the American Museum of Visionary Art, this book provokes the reader to re-think the distinctions our society draws between genius and madness. I've actually been to the Museum in Baltimore and am thrilled that this artwork is now available on a large scale. This book may not be for everyone, but those willing to expose themselves to its often disturbing imagery will be rewarded.

Inspiring for the young and old
Waves of Passion, Inspirations for Love, speaks to your heart and soul about love. As you read the poems, scripture, and comments, you know Roger Mangum has "been there, done that". Regardless of the state of love you are in-searching for love, found love, lost love-you can relate to these poems. This is a book to leave out on the coffee table, because it is inspiring for the young and the old.

Inspirations for Love ~ Inspirations for Life
Though this is a relatively short work (128 pages), it is "full" from beginning to end. Never before have I read a publication in one sitting such as this one: scripture, poetry, self exploration, advice, heartache and wisdom all set up in a biographical type form centered around love and our need for it.

Roger Mangrum's works coupled with Rich Drennan's art makes for an outstanding adventure into your own heart as you journey these pages. So many have lost love, suffered from broken hearts or are in situations where their love lives could use some sort of remedy. If you fall into any of these categories, this would be just the right prescription in your quest to cure what ails you. Roger Mangrum sums it up best with his definitions of love, "Love is helping each other grow -- fully!" and, "Love is a poem left undone."

Our thoughts are our pens and our minds are our papers -- if we keep our pens moving in the ways which would benefit and inspire our minds, such as Roger has, our lives surely would become more fulfulling.

Truly a book to inspire.
I found Rogers book to be humerous, sad, and inspiring. The book is about how he found love, lost love, the heartbreak he went through, then to find a way to mend his heart through God's love and the ability to love himself and finally, to find that person we all search for, our sole-mate.

Achievements, Predictions, Possibilities: 1950-2050
Not a simple chronology of space exploration, this volume looks at why humans want to go and what they want to do when they get there. Life on Mars, extraterrestrial life, space warfare, and space colonization are among the ideas whose histories are explored. The stories of the people who developed the technology to go to space, their ideas, theories, and inventions are related, with many color illustrations. Launius is a historian and editor; McCurdy teaches public affairs at the American U. in Washington DC.

With stunningly beautiful illustrations
With a special foreword by famed science fiction author Ray Bradbury, Imagining Space: Achievements, Predications, Possibilities 1950-2050 is an amazing, informative, thought-provoking, and superbly illustrated armchair traveler's guide - one that takes the reader to other planets, past the solar system, and beyond the Milky Way galaxy. It looks back to the 1950 predictions of rocket scientists and science fiction authors, to the present day space program, and forward to the possibilities of 2050. Chief NASA historian Roger D. Launius and Dr. Howard E. McCurdy of American University explore the dreams and realities of our past and future as connected to space travel, including speculations of one day exploring Mars and creating space colonies. Imagining Space is written in lay terminology so that its dreams can easily be imparted to the casual reader, but by far its most vivid asset are its stunningly beautiful illustrations; over 150 artists' renderings and photographs display a breathtaking, unforgettable glimpse into the past, present, and future of space travel. Very highly recommended for non-specialist general readers with an interest in the future beyond the boundaries of the Earth.

Great book for kids of all ages
Uncle Wiggily was one of the stories I remembered my dad reading to me when I was about 3 or 4. It was my favorite bedtime story. I was surprised to find it still in print all these years later, but I guess I ought not to be. The stories are funny and timeless. A joy to kids and the parent reading will enjoy them too. And they always end with a cute line such as "If the rubber hose doesn't tie itself in a knot and rub molasses all over the postman's umbrella, I'll tell you the (next story.)" Since the copyrights have expired the price so low no parent ought to be without it.

Wonderful wonderful wonderful
I am 60 years old; when I was a child of 5 or so, my mother got me the Uncle Wiggily stories; I still love them! They are charming with true Christian values; I was of a Jewish household, but recognized this many years later when I converted to Christianity. They teach love and generosity of spirit, while being entertaining, and funny. I still shudder at the thought of the Skillery-Skallery Alligator and the Skeezix. Every child should have dozens of these books by Howard R. Garis!

Excellent book!
Excellent book to read for people who are concerned with the approach and values in psychotherapy.

Carl Rogers reviewed many of his heart-felt issues in the subject matter.

The "client-centered" approach in psychotherapy cannot be ignored if we do believe that human being is more than just one class of object in the study of science.

Get one and find it out yourself! Easy reading and extremely insightful!

A classic and highly scholarly study of military theory
Clausewitz: A Biography by biographer Roger Parkinson relates the life and work of German officer and military theorist Carl Phillip Gottleib von Clausewitz (1780-1831) who is perhaps best known for his historic contribution to military studies titled "On War." Scrutinizing Clausewitz's life and ideas in the keenest detail, Clausewitz: A Biography is a classic and highly scholarly study of military theory, as well as a straightforward and very strongly recommended presentation of a great leader's life.

Fabulous bedtime stories
This is a slight and very inexpensive book, but has proved to be a hefty and well-loved book in my house. The stories are short--about 2 to 3 pages each. They are well written for reading out loud, very funny and full of surprises and suspense. Each tale ends (like The Arabian Nights stories) at a suspenseful point and promises the children that if they behave they'll get to hear how the event will unfold. Since they are short, one can read two or three stories each night, and this book can last a week. My 6 year old daughter picked up the book (after I've finished reading it) and started to read it herself. My four year old loves it. And the stories carry some important themes--such as be careful what you tell a stranger (in this case a hungry cat) yet they were not overly preachy, nor do the themes intrudes upon the drama of each story.

This book is a great value all around. Worth more than [price] for sure!

Really interesting
...This is simply a reprint of a book that was first published in the 1640s by Roger Williams, who was the founder of Rhode Island and a respected friend ("netop") of the Narragansett tribe.

That said -- this book is not simply a vocabulary, or a grammatical treatise. It also includes dozens of insights into the daily life of the Narragansett tribe, at a time when most of them lived as they had from time immemorial. Every chapter includes not only the actual vocabulary appropriate to the topic under discussion, but also several paragraphs talking about the lives of the Narragansett. Sometimes Roger Williams ends a chapter with a little pedantic poem, but hey, cut him some slack -- he was a creature of his times, as are we all.

Here are a couple of things that I wish someone had told ME about, before I discovered this amazing little volume. First and formost -- the table of contents is at the END of the book, not the beginning. It does exist, you didn't get a defective copy. Second -- for a funny, fascinating set of examples of early native american onomatopeia, look in the sections on "Fowles" and "Beastes." Evidently, the Narragansetts told Roger Williams that they called a duck a "quequecum," a wild goose was called a "honck-honck," and a horse (which they learned about from the English) was called a "nay-nay-oumewot." Maybe this is just my own sense of humor, but I enjoyed envisioning a stern, austere, Godly Puritan, wearing heavy black clothes in summertime (and the hat with the little buckle on front), sitting down with a solemn circle of sunburned sachems, and doing bird calls. I can just picture the Cambridge-educated Roger Williams earnestly scribbling notes in his notebook, while the sachems sat there, pointed at birds outside the wigwam, and went "quack quack" and "honk honk" for his edification. I thought the duck was especially funny -- "Ah yes.... we callum that birdum a quequecum, Good Reverend Williams."

That is a minor point, but it does make the book a little more fun. Basically, however, let me hasten to add that this book is far more than fun. It is ultimately VERY serious. It's one of the few remaining sources of information into the tongues spoken by the early natives of southern New England. If you are capable of appreciating this, I recommend you look for anything by Kathleen Bragdon, or Ives Goddard, who have done a lot of work trying to keep the memories of these lost languages alive. If you prefer libraries to the internet, try to find articles by the 19th century Connecticut state librarian J. Hammond Trumbull, who wrote many articles on native New England place names, and Eastern Algonquin languages in general. You may also wish to seek out John Eliot's "Indian Bible," which is incredibly hard to find in print, but was put on microfilm by University Microfilms in Michigan. The "Indian Bible" was composed, with the able assistance of native speakers, in the Massachusett dialect of Algonquin, which is very closely related to Narragansett. Another little gem is William Woods' "New England Prospect," which includes a handy little SHORT vocabulary. Also, if you're internet-savvy enough, you might enjoy seeking out the work of Jessie "Little Doe" Fermino, a native Wampanoag in Mashpee, Massachusetts, who has recently been developing language classes in the tongue of the Wampanoag tribe.

But back to this book -- it is highly informative, and a tremendous boon to students of early native Americans in New England. Two thumbs up.
