If you want to pass some time
This book was an easy read and passed some time, but I don't see why Audrey Howard gets us to like the main character so much and then in a book set 20 years later the family is having a terrible time of it.

You will get pulled into the emotions with a passion.
This was my first Audrey Howard book. I don't know how I missed this author but I am going back for more. Sally Grimshaw is unlike any heroine I have met and one so real she leaps off the pages. This does not mean that I always liked what she was doing and agreed with how she faced situations. When faced with her biggest tragedy, I found myself angry at Sally but at no time could I abandon her. Audrey Howard has created characters of tremedous depth.

good read
Well I just have to say that I liked this book, no matter how corny it is (husband and wife falling in love a good few years after marriage) No, it's not good literature, but it passes some hours.

excellent
its a wonderful book. though it was confusing how a maan can love two woman at the same time. but i think the author handled the matter very convincingly.

The heroine of the book is someone you only want to be in your dream. she is strong, determined and a beutiful woman both inside and outside. though the matter that the hero was responsible for her father's death after all the things he (the father) had done for him was not easy to digest.

at the end the way the hero won her over was something very special.

Not enough of the right kind of info
This book provides a competent telling of the life of Gutzon Borglum. I picked it up at Mt. Rushmore and was delighted to learn more about this once-prominent artist who seems to have disappeared from the public eye. What I found frustrating, however, was that many interesting events were hinted at or glossed over without really providing much background. The largest case in point being the investigation Borglum conducted into a conspiracy concerning US aviation development and WWI. With as much detail as is prevelant throughout the book, I found the fogginess of this event disappointing. Also, much was made of Borglum's innovation of mountain carving but no specifics were given of his ingenuity. While I understand that there are other books available about the carving of Rushmore and this book's focus was the man, it seems to me that his creativity is a major part of the man. For a full picture of him, you would perhaps need to read this in conjunction with other books.

an important but nearly forgotten American artist
Gutzon Borglum carved Mt. Rushmore and is remembered for that and little else. This thoroughly researched biography shows him to be a fascinating character in American history. His works are found in parks and squares in many US cities. His Seated Lincoln in Newark, NJ is outstanding sculpture, and Borglum nearly got the commission to do the Lincoln Memorial in Washington. This book takes us through his art, but also through his incredible political associations. He had access to several US Presidents and this highly opinionated thinker occasionally took a train from his home in Connecticut, arriving at Union Station in DC, and gaining immediate access to the President. The book describes this and many other fascinating aspects and tales. Oh, the title, Six Wars at a Time refers to Justice Felix Frankfurter's comment about Borglum that he was always so involved that it seemed he personally had six wars going on at a time. An esteemed American said that, and many other Americans can delight at and learn from this marvelous book.

a unique story
the concept of the book was very good. but i think the author was not able to finish the story as the readers would have expected. as the book has a sequel, it is not a complete story on its own. the part were the hero meets the girl for the first time is very interesting. the heroine is a very strong minded girl.

the readers who like contemporary romance will definitely like this book.

not too bad
Despite the fact that the author tries to balance out Jenna's good and bad characteristics, she's not somebody you grow to love, as with Scarlett O'Hara. And the love at first sight premise is stretched a bit.

If you plan to take the drive~*the book is worth buying~*
my husband and i took the drive from California all the way down to Costa Rica and this book was definitely helpful, in retrospect. i agree it needs to be updated, and honestly, it is not a MAJOR source of all the info you will need, but it will help a lot~if nothing else, it provides you with an idea of what lies ahead. the best parts about this book, we felt, were the table that shows the distances and times expected between each major town, and the page of spanish words and phrases on the road. it definitely does not assist much with budget travelers~but hey, if you are a budget traveler and you plan to make it all the way down there, we did it on a shoestring budget, w/o help from the book on finding places to stay, and we were fine! we plan to take the drive again in 2002, and we will create our own updated version of what life is like and what to actually expect along the way. overall, if you have never taken this drive~i definitely recommend getting all the info you can~including this book.

The Only Book on the Subject
Since this guide is better than nothing we used it on our trip by car to Panama. My friend and I found it helpful in travelling through Central America. There are some parts which need to be updated.

I Really Enjoyed This Guide
I've made the trip from the U.S. to Panama by car four times. Each trip has been different and a real adventure. Although this guide should be updated it contains some good tips and many anecdotes. One of the best parts is where others share their experiences while making the journey. I also liked all of the essential Spanish vocabulary the book contains to help non-Spanish speakers in case they get in a jam. The part about border crossings is also helpful. They can be a real drag and very frustrating. This book helps prepare people for them.
I really wish the publisher would come out with a newer edition. I'plan to contact them and see if they'll let me share my experieces in the next edition. In short, if you plan to make the trip to any Central American country this book can help you.
