I read this book nearly twenty years ago the first time and can't say how much I enjoyed it. Since then I have read it possibly another ten times. Lost track of it about ten years ago through lending it out and recommending it to others. Been trying to get hold of a hardback copy for 10 years now and having no luck. Can't even find a paperback copy now, but this book has stayed in my mind throughout all of the great novels I have read, and, is still one of my all time favorites.

Very well written account of a professional assassin at work. I found it to be very entertaining and well thought out. The main character, Holland, is what I imagine the best of the professional assassins would be like. Not a book filled with unrealistic stunts or plot lines. I have recommended it many times and would have really appreciated a sequel. Made into a movie starring Charles Bronson - what a mistake! Charles Bronson is NOT a Holland. Don't be put off by the movie.
All in all, a great summertime read. It's sad that's it out of print.

This is a beautiful, moving story by a writer who doesn't get much attention, but is better at what he does than many of the "bestselling" Christian writers in the marketplace.
A Lance Wubbels story always gives me the feeling I've learned something important, but haven't been hit over the head learning it. Most of all, I just enjoy his characters and his stories.
If you like a good, wholesome story, this man delivers.

Well worth your time to read this one. Any teen or adult would benefit from the messsage of this book. The characters are beleivable, as is the story. There is much to learn and enjoy in this book. I'll read it more than once. The title above says it is part of the Gentle Hills series, but I think is comes before that series.

The first in a series, these books are well written, and make you come back for more after each one. A definite faith builder.

This book was a page turner that held my attention and sent me looking for more. The book transcended well from the trama of WWII and those it left behind to carry on with every day life. I felt close to the character; crying, laughing and rejoicing with each of them through it all. I am now reading the book to our teenage kids for family time. They like it!

Deals with hard decisions well, such as "Is God calling me to the mission field?" Book was instrumental in a difficult time, very inspirational. Humor is great, you'll want to keep reading.

R. Lance Hill's ability to create immediate interest, which he then proceeds to advance with excellent character development, make this one of the more entertaining novels I have read. Upon completion you have the sense of actually knowing the cast so brilliantly portrayed.
