lot's of information
Great book! Lot's of history on Kombucha. There are some pretty neat recipies for cooking with the brewed tea. The extremly detailed but easy to follow directions, complete with photos, make brewing your own tea a cinch. If you can't successfully brew your own tea with this book, you probably can't tie your own shoes either.

The Book of Kombucha is loads of fun!
The ideas in The Book of Kombucha are so easy and a lot of fun! The recipes are especially fun to try. It's easy and fun to read! I reccommend anything from Beth Ann Petro Roybal.

A Beat Generation Yearbook
This book is the perfect companion volume to Charter's biography of Kerouac, or to any other account of the Beat era. It is filled with over 100 of her best photographs. It is practically a photographic catalog of all the people you've read about but may never have put a face to: William Burroughs, Allen Ginsberg, Jack Kerouac, Gary Snyder, Gregory Corso, Robert Creeley, Diana di Prima, Lawence Ferlinghetti, John Clellon Holmes, Herbert Huncke, Philip Lamantia, Michael McClure, Peter Orlovsky, Kenneth Rexroth, Anne Waldman, Phil Whalen, and so many others. And these photographes are taken for the most part in their own homes and haunts- without that posed sense. Not only that, but the book's introduction, accompanying biographical sketches, and poems are a good introduction to the Beats in it's own right.

My only criticism lies, ironically, in the photos of Kerouac. The best Kerouac related photographs are of the funeral and gravesite. The rest are from the last days back in the late sixties when he was living at home with his mother and waiting for death. I'm not saying that these photos don't tell a story, but I wish they were more balanced. Of course, this also demonstrates that Charter's didn't actually meet Jack until well after the _On the Road_ years were gone.

Of yes, there is also a sizable section devoted to Ken Kesey, and the legendary bus, though I've never really seen him and his Merry Pranksters as Beats. Still, it's nice to see Kesey, his farm, and what remains of the bus....

Understanding me!
I am a 28 year old female who lives in Australia. I have not found many books on self- Mutilation here and came across this book at our local library. I am what they label a 'Cutter', and found this book very helpful to understand why I self-harm and how to stop myself from doing it.

The book is set out in 6 chapters explaining: * What is self-Injury? * Who self-Injures and Why do they do it? * Self-Mutilation and Related Disorders * Treatment and Therapies * Helping Yourself Stop Self-Injury * Helping Someone Who self-Injures These chapters are full of detail, the most helpful to me were the last two chapters, it especially talks about how to tell friends and family about your Self-Injury, which was the hardest thing to do for me. After reading the book it made me feel like a real person again and that I have an illness that I share with many other people in the world.

The book also tells of others experiences in Self-Injury and why they came to do it. This illness can happen to all classes of people it talks of well know people like Jonny Depp and the late Princess Diana and what they went through.

I would reccommend this book to all that Self-Harm and all those family members and friends who love and want to help there loved one to overcome this. It has some very good advice on these things and expresses how support is so important, instead of ridicule and ultimatums people with these illnesses need love and understanding.

Please buy this book if you want to overcome this illness it has helped me a great deal to understand me and who I am.

A nice companion book on the classic Disney film.
Another good book on a Disney classic. Full of wonderfull drawings, sketches and animation concepts and background designs. I always buy the "Art of" books Disney puts out on each of their new films. It's always a treat to see how concepts of characters and backgrounds changed as they went along. Sometimes for the better, and sometimes not. Being an artist myself, I always enjoy seeing the drawings of the rough animation and characters studies. It's nice that they included some photos of the original source material from China in the front of the book. This again shows how far Disney's team goes to research a subject. The information and research shows up on the screen. And besides, the books pretty cheap, so you can't go wrong. My only complaint is that it could have been a slightly bigger book page wise.

This book's text is gratifying.
I think this book's art is quite nice and that the text is gratifyingly bold, which I like.

A great summary of the disney movie!
This children's storybook is a shortened version of the movie, packed between two hard covers. The wonderful pictures are in full color and relive the movie's magic. A great addition to the disney classic storybook collection that every Mulan fan should have.

Sometimes Scary But Necessary Information
Thank you Ann Cooper and Lisa Holmes! If you really believe "you are what you eat", this book may scare you into ACTION! This book was suggested to me by a parent of one of my son's friends, and I am so glad it was. Though sometimes "text bookish", this compilation of information really makes you stop and think about what you eat and what we feed our families. I found the historical information to be very insightful and the suggestions for how to offer healthier choices were terrific. The resources listed in the back of the book were nuts and bolts suggestions that answered the question, "now what do I do?" With recent "Mad Cow Disease" scares, and ever increasing rates of cancer, heart disease, etc. this is a fabulous resource for helping people to think about small ways to make changes in what we put in our bodies every day. READ IT!!

An Excellent, Important Book
Bitter Harvest is a wonderful book. It highlights the importance of natural foods vs. the artificial foods we eat. However, this is a distinction NOT between junk food and vegetables, but agribusiness vegetables and local organic vegetables.
It turns out that, in search of the maximum profit, the massive agribusinesses engage in pratices that make vegetables much less healthy, and, in some cases, toxic.
Since allowing land to fallow and regain its nutrients reduces profits that could be generated from using that land, agribusinesses use the same land over and over again, and pump it full of chemicals to try to restore the nutritional content of the soil. This is not some wild claim, it is simply how agribusiness works according to their own information.
As a result, many vegetables are becoming less healthy and less nutritional. For instance, a USDA report comparing American broccoli between 1975 and 1997 shows that it has decreased in many important nutrients: broccoli in 1997 had 53% less calcium, 20% less iron, 38% less Vit A, 17% less Vit C, 35% less thiamin, 48% less riboflavin, and 29% less Niacin than 1975 broccoli. Additionally, food that is transported loses nutrients over time. Our vegetables travel an average of 1500 miles.
Unfortunately, thanks to NAFTA and GATT, our vegetables can be toxic. Mexico currently does not ban at least 6 pesticides that are banned due to health effects in the USA. Why does this matter to us? We get most of our off-season vegetables from Mexico: 97% of tomatoes, 93% of our cucumbers, 95% of our squash, 99% eggplant, and 85% of our strawberries. We are eating the poisons Mexico allows in its food.
The news is not all bad, and this book is largely a celebration of life, food, and nature. Above all, it stresses the need to find food sources that don't use the damaging practices of agribusinesses and are not far away-local organic farms. According to Consumer Reports Jan 1998 issue, "organic foods consistently had the least toxic pesticide residues." Similarly, it is more nutritional. Organic Corn has 20 times the calcium and magnesium of store corn. There are many more nutrients and vegetables listed.
And so, to question an earlier reviewer, who found it "really hard to figure out why any of it matters"--are you concerned about eating poisons and pesticides? Are you concerned about declining nutrient levels in our vegetables? If you are, then this book matters. In fact, it is difficult to imagine anything mattering more than what we eat and the damage it may cause.

Important reading
This book is a must read for anyone who cares about the food they put into their bodies. It is definitively NOT a cookbook, nor does it make an attempt as such--the other reader from New York clearly did not read this book!

Very little information about Viagra!
The book, in my opinion, is really mis-titled as the bulk of the book is about male erectile dysfunction, and very secondarily about Viagra. I bought the book as I thought I was getting an indeep review of Viagra and its effects. It appears that the book was written too early in the Viagra introduction cycle, it was copywrited in 1998, to have much practical information to include in the book. In summary I found the book disappointing and certainly would not recommend it.

great hubby helper
Recently,my husband was diagnosed with ED. I went nuts and bought every Viagra book on the shelf, but I found this book to be the most helpful. Both my husband and I read the book and found it clear and informative. Many myths were cleared up and I can now breath a sigh of relief.

Excellent book
This is a superb book that describes development of this new drug that ushered in a new sexual revolution in America. A MUST read for all Baby Boomers! The mysteries of the drug's actions are revealed clearly and logically. This book tells even the novice how to take it, what to expect, and includes in depth scientific information from major medical journals. The possible side effects, including nitrate contraindication are clearly explained. Unlike several other books on this topic, Viagra discusses the interactions of the drug, sex and heart disease. The book also deals with psychosocial and socioeconomic aspects of the drug. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is dealing with or interested in the topic of erectile dysfunction.

Not for children diagnosed with bipolar disorder
I agree with the other reviewer that this is not a helpful book. I was hoping to find an informative book for children that have been diagnosed with bipolar disorder. This book is definitely not it! I believe it would scare youngsters into thinking that they might end up in an asylum, receiving electro-shock therapy. The book states that not everyone ends up like that, but it seems to dwell on the topic. It also has some disturbing information about the history of mental illness and they way patients were treated long ago.

Not good -- validates stereotypes!
This book is very limited in scope and focuses on the negative aspects of manic depression. As the wife of a manic depressive, I found it to be a book to steer clear of as the author seems to think that all manic depressives are doomed to be inmates and have no function in society.
