Excellent reference book
An excellent reference book on the chart activity of albums ranked on the Black Contemporary LP charts in Cash Box Magazine. Entries include artist, title, catalog no., chart date, and week-by-week position on the chart. A section at the back shows the number one LPs for each week. You won't find any information on the artists themselves, but this is nevertheless an excellent resource for record collectors, discographers, and chart fanatics. Recommended as an addition to the Joel Whitburn Billboard books but not necessarily as a substitute.

Great reference source
As the title implies the book lists the singles on the Cash Box charts (for most of the period, a Top 100) from 1950-1993 (and singles on the charts at the end of 1993 were followed through 1994). For those times where you just need to know "who sang it" this book gets the job done.

There are just a few things that could have been better. There's at least one typographical error (understandable in a book this size). Also, unlike the Bilboard Top 100 book there is almost no descriptive information about the artists (except to distinguish artists with the same name) and B-sides which did not chart are not listed. Still, a great reference source.

Useful but severely limited
A reference book on the chart activity of records ranked on the CD, 12" single, and jukebox charts, video games, and videocassette sales and rentals in Cash Box Magazine. Entries include artist, title, catalog no., chart date, and week-by-week position on the chart. A section at the back shows the number one entries for each week. You won't find any information on the artists themselves, but this is worthwhile resource for record collectors, discographers, and chart fanatics. That said, the book is disappointing overall due to the scattershot selection of the charts covered (does anybody really care about the video games chart?) and the lack of coverage of some the more important charts (albums, singles - covered in the authors' other volumes through 1985 and 1981 respectively). Recommended as an addition to the Joel Whitburn Billboard books but definitely not as a substitute.
