This is a book about the highest stages of the spiritual life, written in the Catholic-Christian tradition. Books of this type often simply repeat the more obvious teachings of John of the Cross and Theresa of Avila. Hoffman's book is different-it asks and answers intelligent questions that readers of John and Theresa might have, but which other books do not answer. Hoffman thinks about his subject, and thinks deeply, and gives unusually wise and prudent answers and advice. If you are interested in these matters, this is by far the best book I know of. Anyone interested in a Christian spiritual life should read Hoffman. He has four books which cover the whole of the spiritual life. Living Divine Love is the last of the four.
