The perfect biology book
This has to be my favorite biology book. It is clear, consise, comprehensive, and all the figures and tables are very useful for studying the material. I suggest that whoever buys this book for a course, KEEP IT! Don't sell it, because it's a basic book for all biologists, past, present and future.

A great text, but I definetly wouldn't read it for fun.
This text has a lot of diagrams, pictures and graphs that help the reader understand the material more fully. Also well written and easy to read. The diagrams for respiration were especially helpful.

One of the best biology textbook.
This book wrote in easy language, easy to understand, beautiful cover and artworks, I sure that this book is excellent in every page.

I have a copy of charles and diana
Can anyone tell me what this book is worth

DEFINITELY NOT A KISS AND TELL BOOK LIKE SO MANY OTHERS
I FOUND THIS BOOK WHILE ON A HOLIDAY TO CANADA...I WAS LOOKING FOR SOMETHING FUN AND LIGHT TO READ A BREAK FROM THE NORM. I THOUGHT THAT THIS MIGHT BE A "TELL ALL" THAT WOULD PROBABLY LEAVE ME FLAT AND WISHING THAT I HAD NOT SPENT THE TIME. NOT FOR A MINUTE. THIS BOOK, (SORRY TO HEAR THAT IT IS OUT OF PRINT, ALL THE MORE REASON TO WATCH FOR IT) IS A VERY INTELLIGENT OVER VIEW OF BOTH OF THE "HOUSES" OF WINDSOR AND SPENCER WITH A HEAVY LEANING TOWARDS THE HISTORY OF BOTH WHICH GIVES THE READER MUCH MORE TO DIGEST AND THUS UNDERSTAND MANY OF THE FRAILITIES OF THE ROYALS. BEFORE READING THIS BOOK, I WAS RESERVED IN MY OPINIONS OF CHARLES. RATHER JADED IN MY ASSESSMENT OF "WHO" HE IS. BUT NOW, I HAVE A DIFFERENT RESPECT AND UNDERSTANDING ABOUT THE COMPASSIONATE PERSON THAT HE IS. I THINK THAT GIVEN THE RIGHT CIRCUMSTANCES, HE WOULD MAKE A EXCELLNENT MONARCH IN TODAY'S WORLD. IN THIS BOOK, HE DEMONSTRATES THAT HE DOES HAVE A COMPASSIONATE HEART AND IS MORE THAN WILLING TO GET OUT TO THE PEOPLE TO FIND OUT WHAT REAL LIFE SOLUTIONS ARE NEEDED. HE DOES HAVE A SENSE OF HUMOR AND IS QUITE INTELLIGENT AND INTUITIVE WITH REGARD TO WHAT IS RIGHT. I FEEL THAT THIS BOOK IS DEFINITELY MORE OF A "HISTORY" BOOK THAN THAT OF A GOSSIPY READ LIKE SO MANY THAT ARE FOCUSED ON THE TALES AND HEAR SAY OF THE WRITER, SOLD ONLY BY THE SENSATIONALISM THEY CREATE. THIS IS NOT AN ANDREW MORTON "DIANA" BOOK NOR IS IT A "FERGIE" BIO BOOK....IT IS TIME WELL SPENT AND I AM GLAD THAT I DID. LOOK FOR IT!

More than a beautiful book -- an exquisite object!
DV: Immoderate Style synthesizes the visual world that wasthe creation of the legendary style-leader, Diana Vreeland. Martin and Koda, curators who are successors to Vreeland'sartistic and productive guardianship of the Metropolitan Museum's Costume Institute, give perspective to the visualproduct that was Vreeland's legacy, at Harper's Bazaar andthen Vogue magazine, and finally at the Costume Institute. The comments and reminiscences of Vreeland's colleagues, protegees, and friends make the work rich and entertaining. The "book" is a superb group of images and a book wrappedin a red lacquer "DV" portfolio within a leopard-printslip case. It could almost have been designed by Vreeland, herself [d. 1989], but was the collaboration of Stephen Gan,Harp

A look at this book will surely give anyone new ideas on how to make their own business card a "keeper."

A unique planning aid
Although out of print and out of date, this is still a superb and unparalleled picture guide to the terrain of New Zealand. The mountains, coasts, and parklands it covers should be essentially unchanged since the publication date of 1982. The copious and excellent photo coverage is beautifully organized with thunmbnail locater maps on every two page spread to help you pinpoint the areas that look most interesting for a visit.

Best Beekeeping book I've seen!
I have most of the "standard" beekeeping books in my library, but this book is the best! The most logical and complete book I have seen yet, and very well illustrated. Logically written and yet interesting just to sit down and read. But it also does a great job of covering details of beekeeping and answering both basic and more complex questions of the hobby. Highly recommended!

A wonderful informative book for any level of beekeeper
I found the authors style to be easy to read, the technical terms were explained in detail and multiple approaches to various beekeeping situations discussed. The discussion on bee biology was interesing and the step by step instructions were easy to follow and well written. The section on colony disease management is excellent. Of the two dozen or so books I ahve on beekeeping - this is the one I would most reccomend for the technical information

Excellent Beginner's Book
As a beginning beekeeper, I found this book to very well written and an excellent jumping off point. The way almost all steps and facets of beekeeping are given advantages vs. disadvantages in this book was also extremely helpful and thought provoking.

A useful reference for any student
As a writing teacher, I find this book very helpful in explaining research and documentation to my students. It presents basic research books, web sites, and indexes in almost every discipline, which makes it easy to send students working on any topic to the right starting point. There are dozens of books which explain documentation, but this is the best source I've seen for actual research tips.

research and documentatin in the electronic age
I think very good book for citation and bibliography

A must-have reference for any student or scholar
Ever wonder how to document a web page in Chicago style? Or how about an instant message in MLA style? This book covers it all. It's an indispensable reference for any student or scholar who needs tips on performing electornic research and how to cite electronic references in MLA, APA, Chicago or CBE style.

Graphic Design: Inspirations and Innovations

Insights and Innovations
This book is full of inspiration, including the artists comments on how they form their own ideas and the process they take to create a finished product. I highly recommend this book for anyone looking to find new ways to be inspired.

a navigation tool for creative process.
Enter with a creative mind and this book will take you on the journey to making more shrewd and unpredictable design choices. Numerous design professionals are profiled and provide interesting and inspiring narratives of various design problems and how they were solved. A section called "Working Out Your Ideas" examines different approaches for bringing ideas to fruitation - the basic theory being that the design problem itself tends to navigate the designer to the final product.

The text versus illustration volume is fairly evenly balanced. Martin's engaging and easy-going writing style, plus heaps of visuals and work sample photos led me to finishing the entire book in one evening and I often refer back to yellow-tabbed passages. This 130-page paperback is a decent value as design books can be expensive. A good read for those planning to enter or re-enter the field of graphic design. Also recommended for an in-depth study of creative process: Julia Cameron's "The Artist's Way."

A Writer's Reference

Great reference
I purchased this book as a requirement for a college course -- and this is the only college "textbook" I haven't disposed of in some way. Its labeled tabs make it easy to access information with the flick of a finger, and the front and back menus make it somewhat easy to find the information you're looking for. My only complaint about this book is the lack of a comprehensive index. For instance, if I wanted to find information about comma usage, I cannot simply look up "comma". I must utilize the menu and think in a heirarchal way -- Punctiation --> The comma. There have also been times I was unable to find information because I was unable to categorize what I was looking for.

Another aspect of this book is the online help. The book provides a URL where you can find supplemental information about the book and take interactive quizzes to test your grammar knowledge.

Despite some of its quirks, I would highly recommend this book as a good reference.

Excellent writing support...
All students at Manchester College, IN, (where I teach) are expected to own and use a copy of this extremely helpful, user friendly reference guide to writing. The spiral bound format of the book is outstanding, since someone can have it open as they type, or jot down notes, or thoughts.

The book is organized into three major sections: 1) Composition/Style, 2) Correctness, and 3) Format/Basic grammar. Each of those major sections are subdivided into four supporting subsections as follows:

Composition/Style -- 1) Composing and revising, 2) Research writing, 3) Effective sentences, and 4) Word Choice.

Correctness -- 1) Grammatical sentences, 2) ESL Trouble spots, 3) Punctuation, and 4) Spelling and mechanics.

Format/Basic Grammar -- 1) Document design, 2) MLA documentation, 3) Alternative styles of documentation, and 4) Basic grammar.

In addition to those sections, there are tutorials at the front of the book that helps the user get the best benefit from support available in the book. There are also ESL hints throughout the text, not just in the section dedicated to ESL challenges. The index is helpful, there are several URLs at the back of the book where a writer can go for more help, and there is even a page that shows revision symbols.

There are ample examples throughout, and anyone who conscientiously applies the lessons in this book will become a better writer.

This is a top-flight book with great things to offer everyone -- from struggling first-year college students taking their first composition class to the polished professional writer.

The strengths of this text made this book the top choice to support our writing across the curriculum program at Manchester College. Many other colleges and universities also use this great book.

5 stars for utility and support.

Alan Holyoak, Dept of Biology, Manchester College, IN

This is a "must have" writer or editor's tool.
Describing the contents of one of the most beneficial grammar books I study is difficult, though it is easy to read, research, check, verify, and use. Diana Hacker has written many books to help people understand and use the English language in the correct way. This is a heritage that also protects the language for future generations, just as dictionaries do.

The Main Menu is divided into topics and the sections that relate to it. Within each of these is a category breakdown, as follows:

Composition/Style:
(C) Composing and revising, (D) Document Design, (E) Effective sentences, and (W) Word Choices.
Correctness:
(G) Grammatical sentences, (T) ESL Trouble spots, (P) Punctuation, and (S) Spelling and mechanics.
Research/ Basic Grammar:
(R) Research Writing, (M) MLA documentation, (A) Alternative styles of documentation, and (B) Basic grammar.

The index is also helpful. I selected a topic at random--adjective phrases: (1) Infinite, 350, (2) participle, 349, (3) prepositional, 348-349, (4) punctuation of, 198, 205.

The format displays what type of information is on that page. (1) Page 350 is B for basic grammar information, as are 348 and 349. Pages 98 and 205 are P or punctuation.

This book is on my desk, and is one of the most useful tools I own. I cannot recommend it enough. Any serious writer, editor, or student needs it. 5 stars.

You must be joking!
This book is one of the poorest examples of a step-by-step book I've seen. I happen to be one of the artists included in the portfolio section of the book. The artist who wrote the book is a pen and ink cartoonist, and obviously knows little about the use of an airbrush. The pictures of his work are laughable, and the text is cryptic and confusing, containing much misinformation. The only reason to buy this book is for the portfolio section, which contains many pictures of high quality t-shirt artwork. I am embarassed to have my artwork in such a book.

just great
Out of all the books on this subject this was the best.detailed & very helpfull.

This could be the best begining airbrush book on the market.
I checked out about 40 airbrush books from the library and this book was by far the best of them all. I was excited about this book from the moment I opened it. It gives an understanding of the art through step by step instructions, techniques, and stokes. The prodjects can be easily accomplished with a little practice and time. After gaining an understanding of simple of strokes and airbrush control, you can make some great T-shirts! This book is PERFECT for the begining airbrush artist. If you have an interest in airbrushing, this is the perfect book to find out what it's all about.
