Use the Suggested Materials
I had touble with this book at first because I thought that I could just skip the given materials, use paper and be fine. I was wrong. Once you use the gummed mailing tape miracles happen. Anyone can create the polyhedra in this book with a little gummed mailing tape and some time on your hands. I have really enjoyed this book.

A book for kids of all ages
I used this book to generate additional projects for my honors geometry students. The students all loved it. They were able to create beautiful objects that also had real mathematical significance. I have also used this book with friends. Creating these objects with others is a great way to initiate mathematical conversations with "non-mathematicians". "Real" mathematicians also dig it. If you enjoy math or think you might enjoy math, try this book.

Hilton Head metabolism diet (1983 publication)
Simply stated, this is by far the best diet I've ever been on!Dr. Millers meals are all very simple and easy to prepare, even with the busiest of schedules..I've never saw a diet with so much variety..I've never had these good results in so litle time!I've lost 45lbs in 6 months, and have maintained all of it!this book is very very informative, and actually made me realize the importance of good nutrition..I really enjoyed the metabo-meals late at nite!goodbye pizza, burgers, and other fatty junk...EXCELLENT EXCELLENT BOOK...Try it....you'll love the results....BRAVO Dr.Miller!you've encouraged me to take control of my eating, instead of allowing food to control me!

This book changed the way I will forever eat!
I followed Dr. Miller's plans and lost 40 pounds in 6 1/2 months and have kept it off for 6 months! He teaches you that it is OK to eat from all the food groups (unlike the Atkins diet). He is a master at making you feel and look like a million bucks!

Visual Thinkers Paradise
If you have trouble understanding and particularly visualizing what mathematical formulae mean. If you have a belief that all mathematical concepts CAN be visualized if only mathematicians tried hard enough. If you like math books but wish there were more pictures. If you wish there were instructions on things to do in Math books other than write out formulae and solutions. If you want hope that there's new and exciting stuff out there that you can find by doing things with paper other than writing on it. THIS IS THE BOOK FOR YOU. A particularly interesting section on how to generate the Cantor Set by Geometric iteration using the tent map and a good explanation of sets related to the Cantor set and the general relationship of things like the Cantor Set to more complicated fractals. One of the most interesting books I have eever read vastly increased my understanding and provided me with valuable ideas to furthur my own creative efforts. Well done HHandP I look forward to the new book.

Two thumbs up for this book.
"Mathematical Reflections" can be enjoyed by anyone with a high school level of mathematical education but will also interst the more advanced reader. Topics from tiling of the plane to paper folding to Fibonacci numbers are presented in a clear and interesting manner along with problems and solutions. If you ever wondered why the ratio of consecutive Fibonacci numbers converges to the "golden ratio", this book is worth the purchase price

A TOPIC TO TIE IN SEVERAL MATHEMATICAL SUBJECTS
The Golden Section is a very fascinating topic that is applied in several fields, both mathematical and nonmathematical. Why? Because this number primarily focuses on proportion, both in a physical and numerical context.

Somewhat to my chagrin, the author confines this subject within the realm of mathematics. For I wish that the Golden Section was discussed from a thematic or historical standpoint, such as how or why artists such as Da Vinci used this concept in order to construct or create works of art that were well-proportioned.

Nonetheless, the mathematics is delightfully presented. It is sketchy in some areas but is much easier to follow than several of the 50+-year-old-mathematical works that have not been revised or updated. Fascinatingly, this one topic alone synthesizes or ties in several mathematical disciplines, including: fractals, geometry, topology, number theory, trigonometry, and, strangely enough, probability.

I highly recommend this book. It is neat and concise, and it is a great reference for the mathematician who has been out of practice for a while to brush up on his or her skills.

Excellent book for rapid tooling
This book introduces the rapid tooling technology and its industrial applications. It is suitable for use as a reference text for a course in RP. Many case studies are also included to help the reader understand how RT is actually being used in the industry. This will help the reader make decision for his particular application.

This Is The Best Diet Ever!!!!!!!!!!!
If you have ever thought that you could never loose weight than you have to buy this book! The things you eat are REALLY good and you eat so often (5 times a day) that you are hardly ever hungry.

This book also has chapters on things like why you shouldn't feel guilty about being fat, and mental exercises that help you to not give in to cravings (and if you do give in to craving to forget about it, don't feel guilty, and move on).

I have been on this diet for 7 weeks and I've lost 20 lbs so far! People have started to tell me I look thinner and better. Even I can tell that I've lost weight. No other diet (or anything else) has ever worked for me before.

BUY THIS BOOK!!!!

A sensible effective diet.
This diet is no less than amazing. It not only helps you to lose weight, but teaches you how to keep the weight off. I have been overweight my entire life and this book has, in laymens terms, helped me to understand why. I have, after week 3 lost a total of 20 pounds and feel healthier, but much more importantly happier with myself. I have yet to feel as if I was cheated or starving. The foods are both tasty and healthy.

More importantly, this diet teachs you portion control and how to maintain your weight after you've reached your weight loss goal, a key factor to long term success.

This diet just makes sense.

For Lose Last Few Pounds
I have been yo-yo-ing for about a year with these last ten pounds. I lost a good 45 at first about three years ago, then 15 more with the discovery of this book. When i picked up the book for a second time i was 5'9" tall and 150 lbs, wanting to be 140. I had 20 days to do it, and was anticipating losing about 7-10 lbs, while leaning more towards seven because those last few pounds are always harder because I am no longer overweight. I have always had faith in this book, and the structure it provides does wonders for all areas of my life. I lost the 10 lbs. and am thankful that i went back to this book to do it. This is the only diet book that i would ever touch again because it just makes sense, and the suggestions that Dr. Miller makes are totally reasonable if you know anything about being healthy. This diet will work for you, no matter who you are,if you follow it.ANother great thing, it is very reasonably priced compared to the other best selling diet books. A a consumer, that is a posotive flashing red light as to the content of this book.

It's a good diet, but.....
This is an excellent diet for people who have plenty of time to prepare the menus and have the time during their day to get out and walk!! I am a busy executive who has only one time a day to get in a workout, and absolutely no extra time for the food preparation (especially the lunch menus) --the menus are a bit unusual, in that most are not available in restaurants, and therefore most times you are forced to bring your lunch (which again requires some preparation)!! Again, being in the business world doesn't allow for a lot of the necessary preparation. I have used his "Hilton Head Diet" a few years ago & it was very successful. Try it if you have the time!

finally something that works
I lost 16lbs. & 27inches in 1996 by exercising & 1200 cal. diet I quit too soon and gained the weight back but kept inches off by exercise alone. I guess you would call it a plateau. I started this diet on Mon. & lost 4 lbs. in 3 days., wow. I do not like fish and get tired of chicken. I've tried the menu thus far & it is really flushing out my system. Recipes are good and if I think they are too complicated and nobody else wants them I am using the frozen variety. Same results, they work. How hard can that be. If I'm too hungry I'll adjust the protein because I go to the gym 5 days a week.

Most Successful Diet I've Ever Done!
I have been on numerous diets, only to feel terrible while on them, and only to gain back my weight within months of going off of it. This diet has been absolutely amazing! I've lost about 50 pounds in 4 months, almost effortlessly! The diet is very well-balanced; you don't cut any major food group (e.g., carbs). The portion sizes are a little hard to adjust to, and I found myself frequently hungry, but I adapted quickly. The exercise you must do is merely taking a moderate walk after two of your meals. I didn't even do the weight routine he suggests and still lost! The only drawback to this diet is that it takes a LOT of preparation time to make the recipes. There is also a great section on the psychology of weight loss and body image, which includes advice on how to avoid going off the diet. I highly recommend this book!

Simply Amazing
This book is a rare achievement. It is a survey of mathematics that both broad in scope yet concise in its explanations. It isn't simply a history of the development of mathemeatics and yet it takes us through the its development in a very wonderful way.

It is delightful to just read through from left to right and yet each chapter acts as an introdcution the reader can use as a springboard to very deep study of an amazing range of mathematical topics. In the foreward, Prof. Hilton of SUNY says it very well: "The unstated premise of this book - a premise that virtually all mathematicians would agree to - is that mathematics, like music, is worth doing for its own sake."

After reading this book, even a non-mathematician can agree.

Best math book I've ever used
"Mathematics from the Birth of Numbers" is absolutely the best math book I've ever used. It explains math concepts and problems from counting and arithmatic through algebra, geometry, trigonometry, elementary annalysis and calculus in simple, easy to understand language. I have found this book to be invaluable to my own understanding of these basic mathematics, and when teaching or tutoring others. The explanations are simple and acurate.

I would recomend using this book as a course textbook for middle school, high school, and early college level math classes.

Praise from a Mathphobe
I hate mathematics. My wife, a former National Merit scholar and professional cryptographer, enjoys working out advanced equations of all varieties. Both of us appreciate this book. Gullberg combines historical overview and practicality as he advances through the universe of numbers and equations. I have enjoyed reading his commentaries and anecdotes which appear throughout the text. My wife has turned to it for understanding problems related to her work. This is a book for school or home library, that belongs on any shelf where there are people eager to learn or in need of an in-depth understanding of algebra, calculus, trigonometry, topology, or more advanced studies. It is worth the price and will not quickly become obsolete like so many other scientific texts.

A Course in Homological Algebra
Published in Hardcover by Springer-Verlag (January, 1971)
Author: Peter John Hilton
Amazon base price: $49.95
Used price: $36.00

Good overview of the subject
This book, written by two of the leading experts in the area, is a sound exposition of a very abstract/abtruse subject. The logic is impeccable and the organization nicely done. Algebraic topology is given a rigorous foundation in this book and readers with a background in that subject will appreciate the discussion more. By far the best chapter in the book is the one on exact couples and spectral sequences as it gives proofs that would take a lot of time to find in the original literature. A good book for reference and for detailed study.

More than just rules and exercises; this book talks to you.
This book understands us math phobes, and explains how poor teaching methods that emphasized rote application of rules, without understanding, have created generations of folks--there are lots of us--who've forgotten the formulas and now think we simply lack a talent for math. Not so. These authors take great pains to explain the reasons for various procedures. They want you to understand what you're doing, not just blindly apply some rule (invert the numerator and the denominator, then multiply; and WHERE does the decimal place go??) that you'll forget later on. A good mix of text discussion--far more than in other introductory adult math books I've looked at recently--and exercises to practice new skills.
