This is I think is first book I ever read by a Black Panther Party member. Most certaintly, the BPP was extremely controversial and weighted down with informants, provocateurs, and sell-outs. But Hillard wasn't one of them. He seems to give an honest account of his involvement in the Party. His story will give you great respect for a group of brothers and sisters who dared to take a stand against White supremacy, police brutality, and other forms of injustices. His is an inspiring story.

David Hillard and Lewis Cole's This Side Of Glory (1-55652-384-X, $18.95) provides the autobiography of Hillard and his involvement with the Black Panther Party. The Party's history, focus, and events are revealed in this eyewitness account. Essential to any comprehensive ethnic issues collection.

This book is very interesting. Hilliard follows the idea of self-criticism throughout this book, leaving the reader with a very broad view of the Panthers. He seems to exclude nothing, he shows the promblems and the triumphs of this grand party. All power to the people finally came to mean something to me, instead of being some "crazy sixties thing." This should be read by all revolutionaries trying to start an organization and people questioning their government.

This is a story set in both Hong Kong and America. It is, at surface, the story of cookbook author Emily Kerr and her lost daughter, Lam Fong. However there is much more to be explored in this absorbing tale of cultural values. A read for those who can appreciate cultural difference and similarity.
Leann Arndt, Reviewer

The only thing you can depend on in this story is that you can depend on nothing. Every chapter welcomes you warmly enough only, by the end of it, to toss you out on your ear. Virtually nothing is certain, almost everything unexpected. It's quite a captivating tale. Moreover, the characters in Hilliard's "Strangers and Pilgrims" could ellicit rage in me on one page and tears on another. No small achievement. This book deserves a wide audience.

This book was wonderful. It is one of those books that you start and don't want to put down as the author holds your interest throughout. Enjoyed the descriptions of the characters, action and environment. Looking forward to his next book.

I would say there are samples of other books, like "Revolutionary Suicide", I don't see exactly why, as this book ("Revolutionary Suicide") isn't out of print...and the fact that you have people like David Hilliard behind this isn't really a good selling point for the true defenders of The Cause. anyways, there are some scoops I would say in this book, and it allows a better understanding of Mr Huey Newton

I searched this book from beginning to end, and nowhere does it mention Newton's stay in Cuba. If I am wrong please correct me.

What IS it with goofy liberals who *think* they know what "The Cause" is and take it upon themselves to diss someone like a David Hilliard??? For the record, Mr. Hilliard was the childhood friend of Dr. Newton, the BPP Chief of Staff, and has more true knowledge, fervor and *experience* in "The Cause" than any ne'er do well might think s/he posseses in their small liberal brains.
This compendium is essential reading for anyone interested in revolutionary politics in general, and for an inside look at the theoretical underpinnings of the BPP in particular. Talk a lot but do nothing liberals aside.
